We had a very disappointing experience with Stirling Moving, LLC in Santa Barbara. They subcontracted our company to perform a move on their behalf. We completed the work as agreed, and the customer paid Stirling Moving for the move, but our company was never paid for the services we provided. Despite performing the actual work and fulfilling our end of the agreement, we have yet to receive payment. It is extremely frustrating to know that payment was collected from their customer while the subcontractor who completed the job was left unpaid. My mother used this company to move from Santa Ynez to Santa Barbara and the experience was horrible. Zero Inventories. Items poorly wrapped if at all. Giant over packed boxes that could only be moved by 2 people. Boxes not labelled until asked and then improperly labelled. There were some lamps from my great grandmother that had crystals hanging from the shades. Approximately 1/3 of the crystals disappeared and have never been seen since. I have hired movers before and have actually worked as a mover for awhile. I would quit immediately if this was the situation and I would never recommend this company to anyone. My mom was offered a $4k discount if she did not leave a negative yelp review which she declined after being charged double the initial quote. Considering the "second truck" was not available to make the trip my mom was charged more for less. I can only assume anyone giving this company 5 stars was offered a similar deal. Make sure your movers are licensed, bonded and offer insurance for items they are transporting before you hire them. This is where an inventory is crucial and movers like this get away with whatever they want since there is no proof. Yes, items were damaged but I understand that can happen but not nearly as often as this company did. read more

The worst move we have ever experienced!! Sooo many things of ours were lost, i.e. summer bedspread, kitchen items, clothes! It's heartbreaking. The truck our guys broke down. Items were poorly packed. Eric only cares about collecting the money. He never trains his crew, never checks on them during the move, much less brings them lunch or cold beverages. My experience at Stirling Moving was unfortunately subpar. The movers themselves, were about average with a short list of minor issues: they damaged an entranceway frame, damaged a fence post, broke a wooden statue, worked relatively slowly with one specific employee cussing throughout the day (in front of my young children) The final invoice was packed full of extra charges that I was completely unaware of. 1.) charged for the use of a Credit Card 2.) excessive "travel" expenses were applied 3.) billed for the 1.5 hour lunch that was taken and 4.) The company did not offer a guarantee to be within 25% (or whatever %) of original estimate, as the final bill was almost 200% more than the original estimate. I called and emailed the owner of the company to address some of these concerns and asked for a response. It has been almost a week and he has not reached out. (very likely because he has been paid in full) This complete lack of professionalism and customer service is what drove my rating of my review. read more

Stirling Moving helped me move from a 1,500 square foot home in Santa Barbara to San Jose. They came to my home, looked at everything, saw the things I needed them to move, and I requested they pack up my kitchen and television. My estimate was $4990. I was told they had quoted 15% over their best guess, so it would probably end up a lower price in the end. This was at the bottom of my quote: "You will only be charged for the time it takes to complete your move (price can be lowered). The price can be adjusted due to delays by the customer, unforeseen long carry's, weather and or additional packing/boxing of small items." Stirling was not the lowest quote, but they were clean cut and seemed reliable. On moving day they showed up right on time. They sent a couple extra guys to help for a few hours to pack up the kitchen. There were no small items around the house for them to pack. They did a great job, and the truck was fully loaded 30 minutes quicker than the estimate. The next day they were at my new home in San Jose right on time. They had sent one extra guy to help unload, and it took them 2 hours longer to unload than the estimate, but everything arrived in perfect condition and my very complicated bed was put together correctly. I was very surprised when they were finished and presented me with a bill $2,000 over my quote saying they had added a couple men and spent more time than on the estimate. What is the purpose of an estimate if the charge will be 40% higher? After I protested, they did bring the price down to $6,500, about 30% higher than the estimate. Ultimately, I was happy with the service they provided. However, if you are price sensitive you should ask for a binding quote instead of an estimate. read more

While the crew that worked with me were very friendly, they did not do a good job. They knew that everything was being moved to long term storage, and when we opened the storage container 9 months later to move things into a better long-term facility, we found that they had not wrapped furniture, and most things that were actually wrapped merely had paper around them, and that was in shreds. In addition, after walking through the property initially we were given a quote for the move - the final charge was NEARLY TRIPLE the amount quoted. In addition, items that were to be stored in one location were left in a secondary location without our knowledge, and we had to ask repeatedly (at least 5-6 times over 2 months) just to get a full inventory list. I don't like writing bad reviews, but I would definitely think twice about hiring this company, especially for items going into storage. read more

Asked for a quote and they offered a date that was a week out from my moving date. I asked if they had any other dates available and was told they were fully booked. I explained that I had no control over my move date and what is the purpose of offering services a week after my move date. Person was extremely rude and laughed at me saying good luck finding someone on my date. I've moved repeatedly throughout my life. This was one of the few times when I can say that everything went well. Hugo and Big John were super cool and didn't stop until the job was done. Would recommend using them for all your moving needs. They even went out of the way to locate assistance with overflow boxes from a move. I would not recommend working with these movers. They were quick to respond but the experience was not good at all. I have a one bedroom apartment and moved into a one level house and they scheduled me from 2pm to 3pm after booking me at 10am and realizing they were already booked. They arrived with a huge truck that couldnt fit down the alley where the one level 1 staircase was located so they had to load up the truck from the street which was about 2 staircases or 2.5. They started moving at 2:40pm and completed the entire move by 7:30pm. They moved extremely slow and one of the people seemed very disinterested in being there. Very short when spoken to. The other was very friendly but both walking and carrying everything extremely slow . It also sounded like one of the movers was taking a personal call during the move and someone used my restroom and left the seat up, so I asked one of them to put it down. We got to my house at 5:30pm and it took them 2 hours to unload from the front door and a majority of the boxes were going to living-room!! There was also a couch, a bed frame and a large dresser going into other rooms but very close in distance. I called the owner and they were friendly and said he would give me a discount but they still charged me over $500 for the move that was clearly being drawn out. I also tried to pay with a Visa card and they said they got an error and didn't know what it meant so they didn't want to process it and kept asking me to pay in cash or venmo even though I confirmed their forms of payment earlier that morning. I could also hear the two movers talking about who would take the blame and how they could explain it. Which sounded odd. All in all it was awful. I worked with Elite Movers previously and it took them an hour and ten mins to complete my move into the same apartment. So clearly I know it can be done in less time. I will never be using them again. read more

I had scheduled another delivery service to pick up furniture to be delivered. At 7 am on the delivery date that mover canceled on us, he didn't answer his phone after he texted the cancellation. The store was going to put the merchandise back on the floor. My daughter found Stirling movers from Yelp. They could not have been more professional, responsive and kept us informed on every step of the pickup. They were even willing to make one additional stop to pick up an additional item. We have moved twice in the United States (the first in 2019 and the second in July 2021) and without a doubt, this last one that we did with Stirling moving has been the best. Our move was from Carpinteria (Santa Barbara) to Mountain View. My husband and I were very stressed because we had spoken to several companies before and none had the date we needed available, fortunately they did) I wish we had found them sooner. They arrived on time on the agreed day, everything was treated with care and they even helped us to remove a large piece of furniture from the house and they did it very easily, they wrapped our large dinner table very well. They were very nice, once they loaded everything into the truck, they left and we saw each other the next day. Again they arrived on time, they unloaded everything and the best thing, all our things were intact, no furniture broken or damaged. In the end, the cost was a little higher than the estimate but it was worth it for us, since compared to our previous move, this definitely gave us a lot of peace of mind. read more

These guys are awesome. I hurt my back the night before a move and needed to find some last minute movers. After frantically looking around I got referred to Eric by another moving company 12 hours before my required move out time. The next morning, they were perfectly on time, very courteous and we were able to finish the entire move in a little over 1:15 (1 bedroom, 2 occupants). Their pricing is very competitive (I think their going rate was between 2/3 and 3/4 of the other people we called) and they were able to work out a deal with me and my roommate because we were both moving to the same place.
