Updated review: All I can say is this bakery is the King of pound cake and cookies. Picked up my sister's birthday cake my mom ordered a few days ago. The drive down was easy, not too much traffic which was good. In the distance we could see the building and me and my mom both got excited. We are freaks for cakes and sweets and we were already talking about what other goodies we plan to buy when we get there. As soon as we stepped foot in the Bakery- we were hit with the sweet scents of cakes, pies, cookies, donuts, butter cakes and other goodies. Man oh man what a wonderful smell. It was packed with patrons buying their sweets for the day/weekend. We only waited a few minutes before we were helped and greeted by a sweet smile. The workers there do an awesome job with getting the lines down and still have a smile on their face as the place gets busier and busier. (I love that about Stocks- service is always great). We picked up our cake and ended up getting a few donuts cause I never had them from there before, we got a couple danish's, and a butter cake plus a half a pound of cookies including both butter and sugar with sprinkles and cherries, jelly and chocolate with walnut and molasses crunch which were like ginger snaps/spiced wafers. We ended up spending a pretty good amount of money but it was really worth it. If you are ever in this area- you must stop in and grab some goodies to take home. It will not disappoint. This bakery has been consistent with the taste for years and years and I honestly been coming for over 30 years and still love it. It's an old time charm that I hope stays around forever. Mmmmm they are so good. Order those ahead, too. Bring cash to buy a "vanilla bar", which is pound cake with vanilla icing. You can try marble or chocolate icing but, why? The vanilla bar is pure perfection. Weighing in at much more than a pound, you're likely to pay around $15 for the 2.5 lb vanilla bar. It'll be the best $15 you've ever spent. They are often packed, standing room only but, they are well-staffed and run several lines to serve you quickly. I can't imagine how many vanilla bars XXX Quickly, yes. I've always gotten my fix through satellite bakery locations or fundraisers. Yesterday, though, I decided to go to the source. I needed to go someplace nearby. What the heck. First, it's easier to get to than it seems. Do not follow Google Maps. Their directions are nuts. 95-Aramingo- Lehigh. Second, they have a "loading zone only" curb right out front. Easy parallel pull in except if someone decides to creatively park. Expect creativity, this is Philly. Third, they have an employee outside who staggers entry and tells you which of 3 stations to go to. Wasn't crowded so no wait. The place is so so so typical of a Philly row home bakery, it was like stepping back in time. Glass cases, "marbled" Formica countertops, linoleum floors. Clean, and smells like heaven. They have plastic barriers up across the counter and you hand your money through a slot. Purchase is placed in a corral at the end of the row. Cash only.
