Back in August, I went on the O'Neill Sailboat cruise with some friends. Stockwell Cellars provided the wine. They gave everyone a 2 for 1 coupon for a tasting, some my husband, another couple, & I went this past Saturday. Ellio (sp?) assisted us. He was very kind and I liked all of the wine except for the 1st of 5 of the red choices. We ordered empanadas and the chicken was my favorite, but I also liked the beef. What a find! The tasting room is spacious, and there is a lot of outdoor seating. It is a beautiful setting and has has a romantic ambience. I had a glass of chardonnay, and Stockwell has an excellent chardonnay. The owner was there, and the service was friendly and fast. I called Stockwell Cellars in advance and asked about the entertainment and if they had any food trucks coming in. While they didn't have any food trucks on the day we were going there, there was an excellent acoustic musician with a chill vibe (sorry that his name escapes me, but he was quite good). Based on experience, I would give it four stars. Based on the wine itself? Three stars. The sparkling wines were not for me. We all got the mixed flights and the pours were all on the smaller side. The wines we tried in the tasting were pretty average. The outdoor seating was nice and we had made a reservation beforehand. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. You are allowed to bring in outside food and there is a grocery store across the street which is nice if you need last minute snacks. Overall, fun place to gather with friends but not my favorite wine in the Bay Area since there are so many options. read more

Once we showed up the hostess was extremely attentive: dragging outdoor heaters to accommodate us & keep us warm, when we requested seating inside in their beautiful set up she kindly moved us without hesitation, she noticed we had some low music playing on a phone so she matched the genre on their personal speaker, not to mention continuously checking in with us. We had a great time at Stockwell Cellars today! We read the review from Yolanda and contrary to the intent of her review we thought it would be a good place to enjoy wine and bring our 7 year old since we didn't have a sitter. The venue was inviting with a lot of space and the staff were so nice. We came with two friends and all of us got the red flight. My favorite was the Pinot we started with but enjoyed the other wines too. We were pleasantly surprised to have live music start shortly after we arrived. We ended up purchasing a bottle of the Pinot to share after the tasting. We stayed for over 3 hours and enjoyed every minute of it. We decided to become members and look forward to going back with our friends and family regularly. As we were leaving, we met the owner/winemaker Eric Stockwell who thanked us for coming. This one is sort of hard to quantify into a single star rating for me... I popped in specifically because I remembered that a couple years ago, I'd had a very good extra-oaked chardonnay there, and I was telling my sister, who had expressed dislike of chardonnays in exactly the same way I had until I discovered the very different oaked style I love, how there were indeed two very different styles of chardonnay, that she needed to try a really buttery oaky chardonnay to see what she'd been missing, and that hey, we should check if Stockwell still has one. Which they did, and it was just as fantastic as I remembered (that was their 2013 Chardonnay). They also had a more recent (2016) chardonnay we tried in the white flight, that wasn't nearly as oaky, but still moderately oaky, and had quite a lot of other delicious flavors. I actually don't even know which one I liked more - they were both truly excellent, very different, chardonnays. And they do have a great chill tasting room now. On the other hand, the other three whites we tried (two different sauvignon blancs, and a rose), I was not *remotely* impressed with, and I was also rather sad that their pours were *tiny*. I know you don't go to a wine tasting to get crunk, but I felt like I only got a couple sips of each of them, which didn't bother me overmuch about the non-chardonnays, but absolutely made me sad with both of the chardonnays. Granted, I was sharing one tasting with my sister, so that's like... 4 sips total. But still. They were pretty tiny pours, of only 5 total wines for $12 (unless you buy something), which is not that impressive. Of course, it *did* get us to buy something, since $35 for a good bottle of chardonnay would have been a hard sell, but $23 is a much easier sell. read more

This is a very approachable, friendly tasting room in an interesting area of Santa Cruz away from downtown. The Friday night activities included live music and a wood fired oven pizza operation, along with some nice art and cornhole for kids to play in the patio area. The owner was the one who poured for us and didn't seem to mind one bit describing the business and the history of the winery once again, for me. Folks had their well behaved dogs inside as well, and the table seating for the music was plentiful and could be communal or more private. The cab was good, as was the rosé on tap. This family run winery on the Westside is a gem! The wine maker, Eric, along with his wife Suzanne and his daughter Jessica have created a great place to swing by and enjoy some of their amazing wines by the glass or as a flight. We have stopped in on a Friday evening after work when they have music till 9pm. What a great way to start a weekend. Its a great place to meet up with friends. You can bring in outside food to enjoy with your wine. We even rented the space once to have a private function and all 75 of our guest were blown away by the owners, the wine, and the ambiance of this winery. I dont know a lot about wine , but the owners do and are happy to educate me about the glass I am enjoying. There is a lot of pride in their craft and you can tell. This place is now one our regular stops as we have joined the wine club too! Oh! And they are Dog Friendly! read more

Truly my favorite place to go on a Friday or Saturday night out!! Their outdoor patio with heat lamps is equally as beautiful as their inside decor. Their wine is delicious!! We drank a nice Syrah, listened to live music and ate at the food truck parked out front. One of the best things about Stockwell Cellars is that you can go out with friends for a nice glass or two or bottle of wine and not feel as though you're at a playground with kids chasing each other, throwing rocks and climbing like they're on a jungle gym. Stockwell's is our favorite "go to" and the special discounted cases of Merlot, Herrera & Pinot, 2016-2017 are excellent. I can order a case at a time & Marissa will insist on carrying it out for me. I really love the rustic steel decor styled by Eric, a welder and Suzanne, and the excellent followup to my questions by Mary Ann. They have rolled with the covid limitations and continue to offer incentives to sparkle the inside and outside experience with music, trivia night, food trucks and more.
