We came here from the carnival cruise line and we had a really nice day! They are really organized here and work hard to provide great customer service. As soon as we arrived, we were brought drinks and had our order taken. For our two activies we choose kayaking and horseback riding..both were fun, but the horseback riding wasnt very far, my leg got smacked into a metal fence & the horses seemed tired. Other than that, we had a really good time. I dont mind the people selling souvenirs on the beach because I live in the ghetto and people ask for money out here without having a good or service to provide. The sand is clean, water shallow warm, small waves, great for families. We were there last week, a group from the Norwegian Bliss. Booked this excursion via Costco Travel. Started with a informational bus ride through Mazatlan, then water taxi to the peninsula. I cant remember the name of the establishment but staff were friendly. It would look better with less bottle caps on the ground (visions of my daughter accidentally slicing her foot open :0( the food is good if you're hungry. Enjoyed the banana boat and boogie boards. My family and I had the most amazing time here at stone island. We came off the princess cruise lines and was greeted right away. Everyone here is soo kind. We took a double decker boat to stone island and it was beautiful. We seen lots of seals along the way too. When we got to the island our big family hopped on a hay ride kind of truck and drove about a good 20 to the other side of the island to the beach. Wonderful views. For only $40 a person we got to do free margaritas or beer for the whole time your there, a horseback ride on the beach ( 4 horses at a time), a banana boat ride (FUN!), and a huge plate of authentic mexican food. We got to see a huge iguana that we took pictures with, they are natives here on the island. But not to alarm, it was someone's pet there lol. Many people will come up to ask you if you want to buy things, get temporary tattoos or even braid your hair. We all had the best time here. The water was wonderful and the prices were excellent. Well I think maybe I didn't go to the right places for this boat trip so I can just say what we experienced . I saw some videos that showed amazing places but I didn't research it prior to the visit so I just landed in a place where I heard music . Water was dirty-ish or looked like it . The restaurant we were at was not so great . The music left , the lounge chairs dirty, anyway, it wasn't the experience I anticipated but all I want to suggest here is ... research what place you'll visit once you are there because they can drop you off anywhere in the island and you might have a not so great experience ... is all. read more

If I could give a zero star I would, I came on vacation first time with puesta del sol not sure if the name. The view to the stones was amazing up until the literally dumped us on the island. We were told we had someone waiting for us, we didn't. We couldn't sit anywhere, bartenders and waiters were so disrespectful telling us that we didn't belong. We got our food late, and to top it off there was hair on each of our plates. We decided to take another boat back, and the boat people almost knocked down my cousin over a life jacket! Visited Mazatlan on a cruise ship and we wanted to have a casual beach day where we could lounge in chairs, drink margaritas, and splash in the surf all day - Stone Island answered that wish. You take a little water taxi to get there and then walk down the beach till you find a spot you want to stop at. We picked Lety's. We got beach chairs all day in exchange for the purchase of food & drink, which was perfect. The beach in front of Lety's was smooth sand and there were enough waves to make boarding fun on boards we rented from a shack right there on the beach. Vendors - they will approach you for sure, but a firm no gracias will send them on their way if you are not interested. Overall we had a good beach day at Stone Island and would recommend it, but probably would not go back again as I think a beach hotel in the Golden Zone gets you the same experience. read more

I loved my Stone Island experience at the Mazatlan port call. We went on a Princess cruise and booked an excursion through Princess. We took a boat ride to Stone Island. When we got there we took a ride to the beach at Stone Island that we spent several hours at. I went kayaking for $8, swimming at the beach, and also horseback riding. I had a blast! We also had a complimentary meal with some fried fish, chicken, quesadilla, etc. There's a large area to sit with a lot of tables and covering. There was a free bar with a variety of drinks. The beach was clean and comfortable. The weather was perfect in December. Stone Island offers a very charming slice of life in this part of Mexico. You will experience the perfect getaway. read more

STONE ISLAND (Isla de las Piedras) Beaches, coconut trees, and open-air restaurants, this recreation island is where the tourists and locals go to relax. You take a boat there from the harbor, either on a package boat tour or by the local ferry. The boat tour gives a commentary. Stone Island is not actually an island, but a peninsula of the mainland that is 9 miles (14.5 km) long by 1.5 miles (2.5 km) wide. The long, expansive beach is good for swimming. The beach activities include ATV's, jet-skis, parasailing and a banana raft pulled behind a speed-boat. There is horseback riding and you can take a ride around the island by horse-drawn carriage. I can't remember what tour company we booked with, but they are probably all about the same as they all end up at the same place and do the same activities. Pretty generic entertainment, but OK fun all the same. The staff were all on automatic pilot and you feel like just another number in a tourist assembly line. Whatever. I must comment that the horses were pretty anemic, but you did get to ride on the beach. At the place where we went, they have small lockers where you can store your belongings while you swim. I would recommend bringing your own combination lock. They give you a tiny key on a thin piece of string to put around your wrist. If you lose it in the water, which is likely and what I did, they charge you for the key ($5). I thought that was kinda hokey and really an additional revenue source as the stupid piece of string was meant to break. How can that survive the banana boat ride? Would I recommend it? I don't know. This is a review of the beach, not the shore excursion. Loved this beach. It's easy to get to by water taxi. The cost to get there by water taxi is only $2 per person (in 2016). It was a lovely day to just walk along the beach. Be sure to bring swim trunks as this is a great place to swim. Very small waves and a shallow beach. There are several places to grab lunch, which we did. This was a great place to visit. I'm glad we did this on our own and not as part of a shore excursion. My wife and I traveled here by bus. The whole trip turned out to be a really surreal adventure because the tourist season had just ended by the time we went to Stone Island and there was hardly anyone on the island. It was very fun but just felt really strange because we almost had the place to ourselves. Very cool to encounter your own private island, lol! It was strange, but in a VIP kind of way. One example of this is, while I was sitting at a restaurant (we were the only customers), a young Mexican family also touring the Island passed by. We smiled and waved and kept sipping our Pina Coladas. The next thing I know, the mother of that family came from behind me and plopped their toddler in my lap while the father came around and took a picture of me holding their baby. My wife was laughing so hard. The baby was smiling but was looking up at me like, uh, who are you again??? Our group of 13 (ages 10-55) were in town for a day on a cruise and easily found our way to the water taxi - it was a short 5-10 min walk from the cruise port. $2 each for a round trip ride to the island. We got to the beach about 10:30AM and walked until we found the most comfortable looking lounge chairs (this basically meant ones with out holes and some kind of cushion.) The scenery is nothing special - just your average beach. Water was cold at end of March. Tons of vendors hustling their goods which is normal for Mexican beaches tourists frequent. Turns out where we planted our group, service and food were both lacking. Bathroom was disgusting (missing toilet seats and several toilets didn't flush.). Several folks in our group did enjoy 30 mins of ATV rides. Originally we were quoted $40 per ATV but eventually we paid $100 for 3 ATVs for 30 mins. Overall everyone felt disappointed with the way this day was spent. SO glad we didn't book a tour and pay $35 EACH to come here! That would have been a total waist! read more

We didn't take the tour that costs $60 per person from our resort. We took the green bus to the end and then took a round trip water taxi for 15 pesos each r/t. Hung about at Letys for 5 hours. They can hook you up with ATV for $40 an hour. Boogie board rental at $5 an hour. They had massage there and horseback riding. Cheap. They have towels and shower area. We drank and ate all day for $40 US. Coconut shrimp, nachos, fresh fruit and lots and lots of drinks. It was the best day. We purchased a VIP table for 100 peso that is closest to the water. Worth every dime. read more

Loved it here!! The island is beautiful, the ocean water was warm and the beach stretched for miles. The beach entry was a long gradual slope, so you could comfortably and safely be out 50 yards. It's a small town, that only people born there, can live there - so it's not over built. We enjoyed horse back riding on the beach, a delicious lunch from a local restaurant and hours of fun in the ocean. read more

We took a tour booked by someone at the pier from KING DAVID tours. I'd strongly advise you against this company. We were promised towels, chairs to lounge on the beach, snorkeling and boogie boards. Included was also all you could drink and lunch. After arriving on the island, that isn't really an island at all, our guide took our lunch order and disappeared. An hour later we were informed that our lunch wasn't going to be served for a few hours longer. We thought we'd use the time to go snorkeling. Unfortunately because they didn't have the equipment the was no snorkeling. Boogie boarding then maybe? No. All the boards (4) had been rented. Perhaps maybe we'd lay on the beach. Towels were fifty Pesos to rent and the five lounge chairs availed to the fifty plus persons on the tour had been claimed the instant they were put out. Our drinks were small and watered down, food was mediocre. Overall disappointed by the guides who had mislead and told us this would all the amenities we has asked about and requested. BEWARE. VERY PRIMITIVE FACILITIES. they also won't take you back on the ferry until 2 at the earliest. Maybe it was our sketchy tour company.STEER CLEAR OF KING DAVID TOURS!!!! read more
