We celebrated my 30th birthday on valentine's day. we had never been here before or done a murder mystery. It was so much fun. We all stayed in the Stone lion Inn. And loved it, No one had any complaints and I was with my family of about 15 people. We will definitely be back and recommend anyone going. I read so many bad reviews before going so we were nervous. First I have to compliment Michele she was wonderful and the food was fabulous that is the only reason why I am giving this a star also the quaintness of the house and all the antiques was nice even though the house was in disrepair. So let me start with our hostess, not very friendly, very fake friendly and seemed to want to rush through everything. We did not get a tour of the house or the history of the house she just seemed to want to get everything over so she could go home. She was rude to several of the guest and just had an I don't give a shit attitude. The story line did not stay with the time period and throwing in porn movies, cross dressing and 1-900 calls in the story was just stupid. After it was over the hostess left. The front door was not locked or secured all night. Remember the neighborhood was in a not very good area hell the house across the street was condemned and the roof was caving in. The air conditioner was turned off and the beds were hard and horribly uncomfortable and the pillows were old and flat. They locked the kitchen so we had no water or ice but they left Pepsi in a small fridge. As I said if not for Michele who was an amazing cook and very sweet this place would have gotten 0 stars. read more

We went 4/5/14 and did the murder mystery dinner and stayed the night at the stone lion inn. It was a great night all around. The hostess stayed in character the entire time and was super nice. I liked that we were able to bring our own alcohol for the evening. The house is beautiful, the whole staff is very nice and take care of everything. Dinner was very good, and the mystery was so much fun. I do think it would be more fun if you bring a group instead of just a couple. Breakfast was very good and I really enjoyed visiting with the owner and learning the history if the house and town if Guthrie, and getting a full tour of the house. All the guest we talked to were very nice also, and made it that much more fun. Looking forward to getting to go again soon. read more

My boyfriend and I had a really good time. Everyone really dressed up wonderfully and got super into it. That is a must, or it certainly wouldn't be as much fun. We recommend that you come with a lot of your family and friends--your time will be a lot more fun, and it may be easier for you to get into your role. Be aware that the whole staff leaves when its all over, so its just you and all the other people there. Some in our group did try to come into our room, when we were relaxing ;) That was uncomfortable. Also no hauntings--so be aware there are no for sure things. read more

My husband and I have been to the Stone Lion Inn Bed & Breakfast for the murder mystery dinner and stayed overnight twice. We are planning a third trip soon. With several different murder mysteries that they do throughout the year, you can easily go more than once without having to worry about knowing the plot. Before you arrive at the Stone Lion Inn, you'll receive a "role" for the evening. Don't worry about having to memorize anything. Your hostess takes charge of the evening and guides you through everything. When you arrive at the inn, you will receive clues to read aloud and hidden information to help you solve the mystery. Begin your evening with a "cocktail" party (bring your own!) and start the mystery. Move on to dinner, where someone will die. Work with your group to solve the mystery over dessert. I recommend staying overnight in the haunted Stone Lion Inn. Wake up to a delicious breakfast and ghost stories about the inn and its haunted past. While a night away at the Stone Lion is a fun escape for a couple, my husband and I have enjoyed going with friends each time. It would be a great event for a large group as well as for a solo couple. read more

My parents paid for our family of 18 to attend the murder mystery and stay overnight to be able to experience the Bed & Breakfast experience. None of the 9 couples had ever attended either a murder mystery, or the bed & breakfast. The facilities were run down and very crowded. The evening meal was okay, but the dining area was poorly lit and incredibly cramped. The murder mystery was decent, but very disjointed and difficult to keep up with the story line. At the beginning of the evening we were placed in a cramped room, then shuffled into the cramped dining areas, then back into the cramped living room for the rest of the evening. The over night accommodations that I was given were not on-site, but over a mile away. I was given a map with directions on how to get there, but the map was incorrect and was off by over 2 blocks. The room was run down, the facilities were poorly maintained, and overall very uncomfortable. Other family members that also stayed off-site reported similar issues. The breakfast the next morning was decent concerning the food, but only added insult to injury concerning the condition of the facilities. The entire property was trashy, unkept, and unappealing. Good for them that I arrived after sundown the night before. Overall the entire event was incredible disappointing, especially based on the price and advertised experience. The evening was priced and advertised as a exciting memory-maker - instead it was disappointing and a memory of what to never do again. I couldn't get away fast enough. The 2 staff people that I did have contact with were very friendly and courteous. The customer service that I experienced was good, but didn't overcome the overall joke of the event. read more

My husband, sister and her beau attended the Murder Mystery Dinner on March 22. We had a great time. From the appetizers to dessert, the food was excellent. Just wish we had bought our liquor from the room.......Now to the mystery, the scripts were well written and we were fortunate to have great people as participants. We loved every moment. We stayed in the Bed and Roses building. Our rooms were wonderful. My hubby and I enjoyed a delightful bath in the two person jacuzzi. The breakfast delivery was right on time. My boyfriend and I went together. The atmosphere was fun and the host was in character from the beginning. However, there were WAY too many characters and things got confusing for everyone. Out of about 40 people, 16 of us had to sit in a tiny room to dine elbow to elbow and we MISSED THE MURDER because everything happened in the other room. Also, the food was not as good as if we would have just prepared a packed lunch ourselves. Most of it looked (and tasted) like frozen warmed up food. The "gourmet" dinner is a misleading statement and should absolutely not be said. Dessert was a "get up from the table and grab a cheesecake bite in a cupcake wrapper and pour your own coffee" thing. It was also FREEZING in there the entire night (we came in April on a cold evening already). Worth a shot if you get a coupon and don't have high hopes. Don't pay full price. We will be trying it again with a group of our own friends. So, I look forward to hopefully writing a better review. We will see!! read more

We've been planning to do a Murder Mystery Dinner for years and our schedule finally freed us up to attend. Stone Lion Inn didn't disappoint. We came just for the Murder Mystery Dinner and didn't spend the night so I'll only speak about the dinner. The thing that I loved the most was the interactions between characters. We were able to hang out and get to know each other (in character) before the dinner. It helped to set the tone because I really felt like I was in he character's shoes. The food was good however there was only one selection so if you didn't like what was served then you may have been out of luck. Luckily I didn't have that issue and no one else had anything negative to say. The soup was very good and the appetizers and deserts were amazing. The Murder Mystery portion was lots of fun. We were allowed the freedom to make the character into whatever we wanted and the group I was with went above and beyond to spice up their character. There are only a couple of things that I would change about the Murder Mystery portion. I felt like we should've used more of the house and I felt that we should look for clues throughout the night to solve the crime instead of the current format. With that said, I still loved it and would do it again. read more

HORRIBLE MURDER MYSTERY DINNER. The food was a boned chicken thigh section (GROSS)with some sort of "Rice-or-Roni" type stuff. Not worth what you pay AT ALL. I didn't even get to eat my meal or the appetizers before bc everything was so rushed. I was so stressed out and overwhelmed with all of the information shoved at me and trying to awkwardly find out what we were supposed to be doing.The "murder mystery" was a DISASTER because they didn't even seat me at the right table as who my character was supposed to be with, in order to give my clue. I was just sitting there not eating and trying to figure out how to tell someone from across the room (and someone else's real husband) something off of my clue sheet. The clue sheet said I had to make sure everyone else heard me. It was so awkward and weird. I couldn't figure out if the other people were "actors" or legit customers like myself so that made it even more awkward and stressful. They have WEEKS to put this together so you would think it wouldn't have just been thrown together with everyone looking at each other not knowing what to do or say. They need to tell you what "meal" you are purchasing at the time of purchasing the murder mystery dinner. Also they need to tell you in the email before the dinner that you will be with a group of people you don't know, none of whom are "staff" fill ins or whatever. DO NOT give us character lines/stories of people who aren't even THERE! A storyline shouldn't have your character going to dinner with a spouse and then when you arrive at the dinner, NO ONE is even playing the role of your spouse! It is EXTREMELY confusing for everyone and distracts the other guests especially ones who have never done it before. The storyline was ruined from the very beginning (involving my character who couldn't find the other characters I needed to and being confused while they are trying to throw dinner in your face. This sets the tone for the rest of the evening so it was a disaster and cluster of confusion. Eventually I didn't care to attempt to salvage the murder mystery and spoke with the other guests out of character and they had the same exact thoughts I was having. NOT WORTH the money or time and effort I spent preparing! $100 for a chicken section with a BONE in it (we couldn't even have a chicken BREAST?)with nasty rice is NOT ACCEPTABLE. I didn't even have time to grab an appetizer when we arrived and we were NOT late. WILL NOT BE BACK. read more

Overall, we had a great time. The food was good. The woman running the murder mystery did a great job. The other guests were very committed to their characters and made it all very fun. Do not go into this expecting a super nice room with all the amenities. It is a super old, creaky house. There is no wifi, you are lucky to find a place to plug in your phone to charge. It was so hot in our room we considered leaving but stuck it out. The breakfast the next morning could have focused more on the ghost stories and such. It was a nice change from the usual outings. We did the murder mystery and stayed in the Bordello Suite. I was surprised with the room. The bed was comfortable but the room was extremely cold and the furnishings were very simple. It definitely needs some renovations along the lines of painting and wallpaper. The food was not what I expected. It was very spicy with lots of peppers which basically overpowered the flavor of the chicken, rice, and vegetables. In particular, the soup was where I couldn't eat it, and I like spicy food. The murder mystery was the highlight of the stay. It was entertaining and most of the patrons dressed up and did a good job with their parts. In particular, the hostess was very good. Breakfast the next day was better than the dinner, but still a bit spicy. I really wish there could have been some fruit or snacks to munch on during the night. I had to make two runs in the middle of the night to Wal-Mart. Most places I have stayed in such as this has snacks available. Overall, I am glad I can say I experienced the murder mystery, but it seemed like the owner is cutting a lot of corners and exaggerating the amenities. We won't be returning anytime soon. read more

I want to start by saying that I am only writing this review because I referred to this page BEFORE my trip and the comments put a bad taste in my mouth. I was almost dreading the weekend before we ever even left! I vowed that no matter how the stay at The Stone Lion Inn was, I would come back and write a review. I will say that the website needs some updating and the false advertisements adjusted. I think the descriptions there are a bit padded, if you will. Just to touch on several of the reviews I read, mainly about how bad the food was, IT WASN'T THAT BAD! The website says there is a seven course gourmet, candlelit dinner. It was actually a four course meal, and it was quite tasty to me and the three other people in our party. Salad, bread, soup, and the main course - baked chicken, rice, and mixed veggies. I did get a bone or two, but I'm not so high on my horse that I'd complain about it. After dinner, dessert and coffee was available before the murder mystery began to unfold. The murder mystery is hard to follow. We noticed a couple people in street clothes and later found out that they were locals, filling in, because there were not enough guests. The host, Uta aka Robin, was fun and entertaining, although she drank the entire night and it was quite obvious toward the end. She wasn't falling down drunk or anything, but her language got bad and her Solo cup came out towards the end of the evening. I won't spoil the mystery like another review did, but I will say that it's not as exciting as one would hope. We were told after everything ended that we would get a tour of the home the next morning. Our room and the house were great. Some reviews complained about not having plug-ins for blow dryers and such, which I can understand if you are a woman and plan to get ready and do hair/makeup for the evening, but there were plenty of plugs in my room, not bathroom, and I made due. It was totally fine! We didn't have a king bed, so ours was small and uncomfortable. Breakfast was nothing to write home about. It's a piece of quiche, 3 bites of bbq summer sausage, apple cobbler, and a slice of lemon/blueberry cake with orange juice, water or coffee. We were told that the owner was out of town and the cook was not allowed to give us a tour or tell us the history of the house. We were pretty disappointed with that news, as we had looked forward to that! I would say it's overpriced, but I like to think that life is what you make it - so I had fun and would do it again. Greatly disappointed. We paid for two nights in your White Peacock B&B Library themed bedroom and I'm glad we left after just one night. This was our wedding night and was so important to us. 1. The bedroom floor sloped two ways with sudden dips. 1. We were overheated all night- the flue from the basement boiler comes up through a bricked in pipe in this room, and the bricks were hot. 2. There were ants in the bathroom! 3. No cold water to the hand basin - if we didn't rinse our hands quickly we got scolded. 4. The shower just dribbled - I take a shower each morning, so I braved it. I had to squat in the bath, (there's no fixture to hold the shower on the wall) and started to wash my hair, within a few minutes the hot dribble turned freezing cold and I had to jump out of the bath and dry myself whilst still covered in soap. What a terrible experience. This room was priced higher than a quality hotel, and you knew this was our wedding night, how could you have, in all honesty, sold this room to us? read more

We had been wanting to do a murder mystery for awhile, and received this as a gift! We attended the murder mystery dinner on August 18. The house is a beautiful old house, plain on the outside but beautiful on the inside with lovely furniture and it just feels like the perfect place for a murder mystery! There were about 35 people at our dinner, everyone dressed up well and we all mingled while eating an appetizer. Then we were given an introduction to the evening, and it all began. The three course meal was better than expected, the murder mystery was fun and we were impressed. There are a lot of characters but it was still very fun. We did not stay the night in one of the rooms but would definitely be interested in doing another murder mystery with them and staying the night! read more

I attended the Murder Mystery dinner with my husband and another couple on March 29, 2014. I had played Clue as a kid and the thought of playing it first hand was very exciting. Before the evening of our mystery, we were given a character, a list of characters with a little background history and a time period of which to dress. When we arrived we chatted with the other guest in their costumes before sitting down to, what I thought, was a very delicious meal. After the meal is when the story unfold with every one telling clues to help tie in the characters to one anther and to help you form an opion on "who did it'. I went to the murder mystery with a group of four and we all stayed the night at the stone lion in. Everyone is asked to study their characters and play the part from the minute you arrive at the hotel, which made it that much more fun. The dinner and breakfast were both amazing and it was fun to get to hear the ghost stories from the hotel owner the next morning. The rooms are very cozy and the staff was excellent. The story for the mystery was exciting and definitely kept the guests engaged throughout the evening. We received instructions along with our parts a couple of weeks before our scheduled dinner, and they were easy to understand. I have read some of the other reviews for this Stone Lion Inn and have to say that you certainly need to give this location a chance and form your own opinion, yes this is a very old historic building so please keep that in mind when you book, if you are looking for a modern new building experience I recommend you continue on down to Oklahoma City or Dallas and spend $300-$500 a night for a new luxurious property, As far as the food that was served during our Murder Mystery Dinner I could not have been more pleased with how it was presented, the taste, the temperature and how well it was handled with such a large group and very promptly served, The dinner experience is most enjoyable and the mystery is well planned out, For the size of the group the mediator host does an outstanding job keeping things flowing throughout the evening, You will be expected to read your part out loud in front of your group, you can act it out as you choose or just simply read it aloud and enjoy others all dressed in period clothing and enjoying themselves. There was wires hanging out of the ceiling, the bathtubs were filthy, there weren't any heating or air vents in the bathrooms. i have stay and done murder mystery several times . so that alone tells what a great time I have doing them. I finally got to do the one she does in October was a blast . I will tell you as one who as done many of them its always more fun when people really get into their character and play it up and act silly . then the ones who don't do much . can make or break the night . the host doing the murder mystery is great and does a great job. I enjoy the morning when you get to hear history of Guthrie and see people again and get to look around the stone lion inn . you have to love old houses to really enjoy this . so even thought I have done the mysteries I would do them again . read more

My husband and I attended the murder mystery dinner here in December 2013. We did not stay overnight. The mystery was fun and we really enjoyed the girl playing the Ukranian hostess. The food was good and there was a lot of it. The weather that weekend was freezing and icy so about half of the people who were supposed to attend (including the murderers!) did not come. I thought it was much more enjoyable with a smaller crowd anyway. Would like to try another mystery in the future. read more

I am rating just the mystery dinner that the Stone Lion Inn does, since we did not spend the night. The mystery dinner is a very unique experience to have in the OKC area and overall very enjoyable. My husband and I went together. When we arrived, finding a parking spot was a little confusing, as there weren't many spots. (There were still several guests to come after us...I'm not sure where they parked. At one point an employee had to come and ask someone to move their car, so it is kind of annoying, but a small detail, to be sure.) When we entered the hotel, no one was there to greet us, we kind of walked around until we found a person to tell us what to do. We waited for other quests to arrive for a little bit and just walked around the rooms. We were able to look at some hotel rooms that weren't occupied and they seemed cozy. One issue we had is my husband went outside to get something and couldn't open the front door. It was jammed. Another man went to help from the inside and they couldn't get it open until after SEVERAL tries. I also got had problems opening the bathroom door. I used the bathroom twice (pregnant...) and both times it took me several minutes to open the door. It was kind of unsettling, so be careful shutting the doors... Anyways, the rest of the experience was good. The food was good. They served hors d'oeuvres before we ate (meatballs & crackers with cheese and little bites of pepperoni with cheese and olives. When we sat down for the meal, we started with a salad. The main dish was chicken with vegetables and rice. The dessert, cheesecake, was to be eaten as we gathered into the main living area to "read the will." The staff was very friendly and pleasant. We enjoyed the experience. It's more fun and enjoyable if you really get into your part and play along. One more caution, my husband and I don't drink and I personally find drunk people annoying...so by the end of the night, I was SO ready to be home. The guests who got really drunk were really spacey and made it hard to finish the "game". While my husband and I had a great time, we probably would have enjoyed ourselves better if we were able to go with a bigger group of our friends. So, that's another suggestion. But, it is fun. My husband and I spent our anniversary at the Stone Lion Inn in February in Feb 2014. We had a great time. The Murder Mystery dinner was so much fun and so well organized out host Uta did an amazing job with the group of people that were there. The dinner that was served was delicious and we enjoyed visiting with the cook Michelle. We also spent the night at the Inn in the Honeymoon Suite. The room was big, clean and comfortable. The next morning we had another delicious meal prepared by Michelle and sat around and listened to the history of the Inn. We just got back from this B&B and I wanted to write a review while it was fresh on my mind... First of all, the welcome packet emailed to us about our characters was a bit confusing. The website says the mysteries are all set in the 20', 30's or 40's era, and our instructions said the ladies should wear veil-type hats, which to me says 30's or 40's - but later it said one of the characters worked at Gold's Gym (what??). When we arrived to check in, we walked into the house and there was no one to greet us, nowhere. We had to seek out someone to get a key - we stayed at one of the cottages off property. (more about the room later). Next, we arrived at the dinner - where people had segregated themselves into the groups they came with. So I went around the room and talked to a few people. The age groups were mixed between 20's to 60's - it was a good mix. The "older" crowd seemed to get into their characters, but the youngers seemed awkward and uncomfortable and some were only there to see how much they could drink. After a tray of three "appetizers" - which were lunch meat rolled up, meatballs, and ritz with some sort of dip smeared on them, we were told we were going to go out to the cemetery - to mourn the death of the base character (not the one murdered). I am thinking we are going to go to the backyard where a mock cemetery might be set up-- NOPE, we all actually get into our cars (after some had already had quite a few drinks) and drove to an actual cemetery about 10 MINS away. It was very strange. When we got back we were immediately shuffled into dinner...the group was seated in two separate rooms and we sat where they said to sit. I was thinking we should all stand up and introduce ourselves - we didn't have hardly ANY time to socialize and find out who was who. At dinner, we did find out a little more about the five people we were seated with and that was about it. Dinner was awful... I thought the "soup" was gravy at first. The rice was hard (not cooked all the way) and the veggies were over salted. However, I had read several reviews that the food was terrible so I expected that. We figured if it was truly bad, we would just have a pizza delivered later (which we did). We didn't have the dessert so I cannot comment on the taste, but it looked like cheesecake bites from SAMs. During dinner, there was yelling from the other dinner room that someone had been murdered. We did not see anything, the lights didn't go out, the "victim" was a mannequin and we never saw any type of murder weapon. The people in the other room got to see it, not us. After dinner there was about a 10 min break to mix more drinks and use the bathroom. Then we were all sent to the living room area where we sat in a circle and read a 20 minute script from a paper. It was hard to follow- I saw some people taking notes trying to keep up. I was thinking this should be simplified, especially since everyone's brain was liquored up by then lol. Then we were split into two groups (men and women) and tried to solve - neither group was correct. The host was not really "into" it. We were instructed to wear black dresses, gloves and hats and she was wearing jeans and a casual blouse. We were also told to not break character and she was trying to talk to me about facebook. Now the room - oh boy the room. I picked the room with a jacuzzi tub. I realize it was supposed to be antique, but I would think the electrical would be updated. The outlets were in the floor and there were only about three in the entire cottage. Not of them were by a mirror, which would be helpful when trying to use a curling iron. The mini fridge was held together with duct tape. I realize the furnishings were 100 years old, but I didn't expect the mattress to be. It was misery sleeping on it. In the morning, I thought my back might feel better if I got into a hot bath. After filling the entire tub with about 300 gallons of hot water (making sure the jets were all submerged) I sunk down in and turn the jets on - all of the sudden, lots of brown STUFF cam blowing out of the jets. I almost threw up - my hub helped me out and tried to convince me, that maybe it was just rust and not dirt -- it. was. awful! Breakfast was delivered on time (before the bath or I would have freaked out on the lady) and again- food was sub-par. Keep in mind, there is no other way to bathe- no shower- so if you use the tub do not turn on the jets. Our total was $300 for a one night stay and the murder mystery - WAY too high if you ask me (for what we got). After all that complaining, I will say, we did have fun. My role was a diva reporter which fit me well - Some of the guests said they thought I was a paid actor, I played my part so well -- that part was really fun. Dressing up was fun as well. This venue was 3 1/2 hours from my home. I don't think I will go back - but the concept was great and I will try to find something similar that is more organized and less expensive. read more

This was the first time my husband and I went to the murder mystery at the Stone Lion Inn. It was the most fun experience ever. Great food, company, and the stay was even great too. We would definitely be doing this again. read more

This place is AWESOME!!! If you want to plan a really fun, special date or grab a bunch of friends for a cool and different night out, come here! You have to plan ahead to join in the murder mystery, but I promise you it's worth it. It's interactive and you get to dress up and act in character--they give you info sheets and character bios prior to your dinner and then give you additional clues when you arrive. There are different story lines set in the 20s-40s, ours was 1948. There were about 30 people at my dinner, which I thought was a lot but apparently the groups are usually even larger. I did the Sheraton Dinner Detective murder mystery dinner over Valentine's Day, and this one was a million times better. The house is super cool and historic, and the charismatic owner comes to breakfast and regales you with stories about the place. We stayed in the Cora Diehl room, the one that's supposed to be the most haunted, but nothing to report there. The people complaining about the food are stupid--you're not paying for the food, you're paying for the event and experience. The food is ok, not amazingly gourmet but not bad. Definitely bring your own wine too, it'll make you have more fun and loosen up! They don't have a liquor license to serve their own. Can't wait to come back! read more

Because we had no heat in our room, we had to go home that night instead of spending the night. Stone Lion Inn gave us credit for the room to be used within one year. We tried to do that but they were occupied every time we asked about it. We, also, had family illness and my brother was in the hospital then died of cancer so we weren't able to try to use the credit for several months. I called and asked if the credit of the room could be extended for one week (for the first week of December, 2014) and I was told no. I explained that we'd tried to use it but they were always booked up then my brother became ill and we were busy with helping his family. We didn't understand why the room credit couldn't have been extended for one more week so we could use it. We didn't understand why it couldn't have been extended for one more week so we could use the room credit instead of losing it. So we ended up paying for a room in the Stone Lion Inn which we didn't use due to no heat in our room. read more
