We have been to this shop several times to shop for gifts. Always found unique and wonderful items. We have had custom pieces made from our own stones. He even does faceting of raw stones. They are a wonderful couple to visit with. read more

First. My husband had a closed canned soda in his hand when we walked in. Sure, the sign outside the door stated "no drinks, no food, no pets." The female owner (as name implies, a man and woman own the store) screamed when she saw his drink, "don't open that in here!" That was fine with us. We understood the sign - even though she was sitting behind the counter drinking a soda and eating a salad. Second. Saw a diamond ring I liked. Didn't mention it the first day I was there. Brought back my jewelry the next day. Asked if they'd do a trade. No, only a store credit. I was okay with that. Showed them one ring and necklace - just to start things off. Showed them a 1 carat diamond ring 14k white gold and a 10k white gold necklace with a diamond pendant - small diamonds on the pendant. I realized I wouldn't get retail price, but they totally tried to rip me off After much whispering behind the counter and inspecting my jewelry, "stone man," without even making eye contact with me said, "$400 - and that's liberal!" I had just left a very reputable pawn shop to get an idea of the value of my jewelry. They told me that ring and necklace alone should was worth $2300. I had another ring, another necklace, and a diamond tennis bracelet in the car that I would have traded for this ring. When he said $400, I said, "no thanks." "Gem" ladies response... They are very friendly, but gave me an estimate of $20 for a minor repair and when I went to pick it up it was $40 plus tax. The repair is okay, but not exceptional. For $40 I could have gone to another store and received better workmanship. read more

They give you a price up front and then double it when you pick it up. I have had several pieces. This last time wasn't happy with the workmenship, too pricey and they take way too long had to wait 7 weeks for a simple job and still wasnt satisfied. Complete shit show,,,, bought 2 druzy pendants,, wanted one turned into a ring,, lady quoted me a price for 300 , said I should talk to get husband who wasn't their but just so happened to walk through the door as we were talking. She went to help someone else , the man gave me a price of 120 .. She tried to walk back over and comment but the husband hushed her away , said this was his deal.. ...220 dollars in total. I paid 200 deposit and wanted a inscription of taylor and a heart ... he said it would be alittle extra for inscription.. when I go to pick it up she said 70 dollars.. which I thought was high but after calling other jewelers inscriptions start around 40.. ...so with the 20 I still owed wasn't to bad..... I look at the inscription and it was so honorable,, it looked as if a 5 year old just scratched it ... and it wasn't even on the band it was under the ring itself , which looked as if he soudered it ... you couldn't even read the last 3 letters ,, then the heart was so bad it was only a half of a squiggly line.... I'm not kidding... it was the worst thing I have ever seen..I called her out on it and she said I was getting a good deal as it was a 300 dollar ring,,, ... basically trying to negate the inscription.. I explained to her that I made a deal with her husband not her , for 120 ... (she was trying to overinflate the price. ). And regardless if the ring cost 10g I still paid extra 50 for a inscription that was shit... she looked at the ring, ...so did her husband and said it looked ok.. i asked if they were serious , that they needed their eyes checked ,, they knew it was garbage and if I wanted he would do something else but after reading the reviews I didn't want them to fuck it up even more and remind you Christmas is 4 days away... I just took the lose,, my 2 cents is that their getting to old ,, maybe 30 years ago he might have been better but at 73 plus it's time to hang it up... Do not go their to have anything done or personalized. We thought this place was a jewelry store that could fix jewelry, we were wrong even though the man said he could fix my wife's bracelet he broke it in three pieces. I bought this beautiful jade bracelet in San Francisco three years ago for $3000 dollars. And all it needed is a chain fixed after he broke it he wouldn't call my wife so she went to the shop and he finally told her he broke it then he told her he would find another one just like it which he did but wouldn't pay for it so he said he would give her $150 for the broke bracelet that he broke. Finally she just went and picked up the broke bracelet and I will buy her a new one and it won't be in long beach where I live this is why local is not always the best place to shop. These small junky shops are out to take from people the larger places have customer service because they want you to come back. I know these people don't care about anyone coming back with that kind of service. I think they should shut that place down and maybe make a new bar or something. If this is the way long beach business are I will be taking my business elsewhere. I think he wanted the broke 3000 dollar bracelet for $150 so he could fix it and sell it to some other poor person all they do is take advantage and they should not be in business.
