I love it here. The staff are so friendly and helpful, it's the first kennel my dog isn't upset to stay at! He practically sprints away from me at drop off. I'm so thankful to have found Stone Valley Pet Lodge! We were in need of a place to board our 6-month-old puppy over the Thanksgiving holiday last year, so we decided to check out Stone Valley. I had looked at a few other places in and around the State College area, and ended up choosing Stone Valley for several reasons. I called and set up a time to check the place out before we decided to board there. The lodge seems pretty new and when we entered the lobby area, I noticed it was clean and well-kept (note: there are many cats on the property; just an FYI!). When we walked through the area where the dogs are kept, I noticed the runs were a decent size, which I liked. There are windows in that area so it is well-lit and spacious. The outdoor areas were also a nice size for the dogs to run around freely and play with other dogs, if you choose. I was looking to help socialize my pup with other dogs, so they paired her up with other puppies her size during outside time. The owner is very thoughtful in making sure to pair up your dog with other dogs that are compatible and well-behaved! The lodge is in a beautiful wooded area about 15-20 minutes from State College. They also board a variety of animals - horses, pigs, cats! The owner is very responsive and thorough in making sure you know what to bring with you. I was really nervous (and sad) about leaving my dog for the first time, but she was great with responding to my calls/emails checking in to see how my dog was doing every few days. They will also give medicine if needed. Our dog has been back 2 additional times since Thanksgiving and she has always done well with transitioning to and from the lodge. She seems to enjoy her time there and has gotten a chance to be around other dogs and animals. The staff and owner are all really nice and you can tell that they really love animals and do a great job caring for them while they are in their care. read more

It is expensive, but they take VERY good care of your pet. I don't think Hazel wanted to come home! My boxer had a great time with the outdoor playtime, walk and morning eggs. I don't spoil her like this, but it was Christmas. It is a little bit of drive out of State College, and takes a bit of navigating to arrive at the final location, but you dogs are in very good hands if left at Stone Valley Pet Lodge. read more

I am appalled at the good reviews of this place. It has been 2 years and am still haunted of the images of my dog having to go into surgery because he was in a fight at the lodge, badly hurt and Jackie (the owner) stopped the employee from taking our dog to the vet! Not only did she not give him medical care she withheld the information from us, she carried our dog to the car as I was getting the other dog in the vehicle.. It was not until I got home, 45min away and tried to get him out of the car did I notice all the bite marks on him as well as his shoulder was swollen. We took him to the vet she had to put him under to drain all his abscess and found he had lost a tooth. Who does this? BE VERY AWARE THIS PLACE IS A NIGHTMARE! read more

Top-notch facility and pet care. Our dogs literally run into the place when we take them there. This is not typical behavior when we leave them. It's very expensive...we left our two dogs for 8 days and the total was close to $600. I know. Please don't judge (too much). They're like our kids and we want to leave them in a place that is safe, clean, and in competent hands. The only place in town for that is Stone Valley. They also have different price packages and options for boarding (we pick the full board, with independent exercise/staff attention, and meds dispensation for one dog, which raises the cost). The dogs always get sent home with a bag of Milk Bones and smelling fresh (they bathe them). They also do horse boarding and have a small pasture with very large run-in shed for owners on vacation. It's in Petersburg, PA, out near Shaver's Creek (about a 20 minute drive from State College). read more

I have an eight-year old golden retriever who is terrified of thunderstorms. After a disasterous boarding experience elsewhere last summer, I thought I'd have to cancel any more summer vacations given the threat of heavy t-storms so common in Central Pa. I talked with Jackie and she assured me Stone Valley Pet Lodge could handle--and had handled--many dogs with this phobia. She gave my golden trazadone every 12 hours as prescribed by my vet. She also administered allergy medicine and sprinkled a fiber powder on her food as requested. In short, my dog needed a lot of attention, and she got it. I was so relieved to find a calm, healthy dog upon pick-up today, after a 10 day stay. Jackie is extremely knowledgeable and dedicated. I really appreciated her individual attention and organized management style. The kennel even returned *everything* I sent with my dog in neat and good condition. (I have had other kennels lose leashes, medicines, and one time even her collar! ) Kudos to Jackie and her staff for caring so much and giving me such piece of mind. I highly recommend Stone Valley Pet Lodge to anyone, especially to owners who want a kennel owner who is totally in charge of her business and greets you at check in and pick-up. I highly recommend that you take your pet to Stone Valley Pet Lodge. The resort is located out on a stone path in the woods. Absolutely beautiful! Very clean and organized. The owner used to work at veterinary hospital for years. The staff is kind and wonderful. My dog would literally jump out of the car window when we would arrive. And when I would pick him up he didn't want to leave! It is nice to know that your pet is well taken care and you have no worries at all. read more

My dog was rescued and started his life at Stone Valley Pet Lodge prior to my wife and I adopting him from PAWS. He has gone back several times and ends up running into his siblings. I don't think he wants to come home after staying with Jackie and that is to her credit. My dog is a rescue and I try very hard not to board him. Sometimes life happens and I need a safe place to take my dog. Several friends recommended Stone Valley Pet Lodge. I've taken my dog there twice and am so happy to know they are available when my dog can't travel with me. Stone Valley Pet Lodge is a safe, secure, and wonderful place to board your dog. The entire staff is dedicated to maintaining a clean and healthy environment, with dogs having ample opportunity for interaction and outdoor play time. Those who find it expensive cannot be comparing SVPL to comparable facilties in larger cities -- it's reasonable and well worth the cost, where 2 dogs for 8 days would cost more than twice the $600 cited in an earlier review. read more

I had to write because I saw another person's review rating SVPL very low due to their care of a diabetic pet. This could not be further from the truth for their care of my blind and diabetic pug, who has now since passed on. I felt very reassured that he was well taken care of and he has been totally fine when I picked him up, happy to see me but in very good condition. This good care has been across multiple visits. The only down side is they are expensive. No doubt. Do I try to see if my friends can watch my pets first? Of course! But I don't worry about my pets when they are at SVPL. It always makes me sad to drop off my pets but I will continue to use them and am grateful for their services. Jackie also does tons of volunteer services for rescue puppies. My current dog was kenneled at SVPL with his litter mates until adopted and right now a rescue puppy I am picking up Friday is at SVPL. I am pretty sure that a lot of these rescue services are offered to our community at a very reduced rate. I will pay a little extra to compensate Jackie for these invaluable community services she provides. read more

I actually would rate it a zero! My wife phoned them to set up a date to take a tour of the facility, but was told when they called back initially, that they were too busy to schedule with it being the Labor Day weekend and would be happy to call us the following week to set up a time for us to tour. Jump ahead now to today, 2 1/2 weeks later, and still no phone call from them, even though we have left 4 voicemail messages and sent 3 emails. We only wanted to take a tour of the facility to see if we wanted to leave our dog there when we attend a weekend wedding in October. Can't say a lot for their customer service. We'll be going elsewhere. read more

DO NOT USE THIS KENNEL!! Although this place appears to be quality (and it should be for the price!), I would not send any animal there. I was assured the owner was knowledgeable about a diabetic dog - and provided detailed instructions on care. They decided on their own to change his diet and not follow anything prescribed by the vet, provided treats as food, what food my dog received was not his. When I picked him up, he was filthy, soaking wet, could barely walk, smelled, and covered in ticks. NEVER AGAIN!!! read more

I can't even begin to tell you how special Jackie, the other staff members and facility are. We took our little Frankie there for 4 years, maybe more, based on a recommendation from a neighbor. Frankie was a senior dachshund and had some special needs and idiosyncrasies. Every one of his needs were met and then some. This January, we took Frankie out to the Lodge and went to NYC for a long weekend. Frankie, who was 18 1/2 years old, chose this weekend to cross the Rainbow Bridge. We weren't able to make it back home in time to be with him so Jackie kept Frankie by her side and was with him at the end. She then drove him to our vet's office in State College where we were able to see him when we got back to town. She kept us posted every step of the way. You will not find a more compassionate and animal-loving group of people. Stone Valley will love and care for your pet almost as much as you do. read more
