Geyer's Oven is spectacular. My parents were visiting town last week and it happened to be a night…read morethat Geyer's Oven was hosting. They couldn't stop talking about how cool and unique the atmosphere was - from farm-field views, the garden, the people in chairs and on blankets all around, to the pizza ovens themselves, it's just a community pizza-picnic that you wandered into. What a great destination for an evening. The topping selections on the pizzas are unique (and exciting to try them all!), the dough is tasty, and it's fun to watch them make pizza after pizza that get devoured. I'm impressed at how many pizzas they can efficiently serve. Each time has a different crowd, so you may end up waiting in a line a few minutes, but the lines have an ebb and flow that seem to work out okay. Don't be too 'Iowa nice', though - sometimes people are waiting for a specific kind and you need to move ahead of them to get something else that's fresh. Since it's 'all you care to eat', you can get a few pieces at a time and leisurely chat or wait to try something else. Make sure to try whichever dessert pizza they have, even if it's the first thing you have (nobody said dessert pizza has to be last).

My boyfriend and I went here last Thursday to celebrate our anniversary (I really love pizza and he knows...) by trying a new spot we had both been wanting to try. We decided to get there a little early because we weren't sure how busy it would be - I recommend this, as it gets busier the later it gets. When you arrive, you park on the grounds near the oven, are greeted by some adorable family members who accept your $12 payment for all you can eat pizza, and are invited to find a spot in the yard to spread out your picnic blanket or set up your lawn chairs. Next, you get in line and watch in wonder as the Geyer's Oven team bakes a bunch of pizzas in their brick oven and slices them up right before your very eyes. They really have a system down and it is impressive how much pizza they're able to churn out in one evening. We tried the BBQ Beef, Sriracha Chicken, Pepperoni, and Mean Green pizza and they were all delicious. They also served up a dessert pizza - which was Rhubarb Crisp - that was to die for yummy. They have lemonade, tea, and water on site, but you're welcome to BYOB which is a nice touch. This is a great place for a unique evening out, and a wonderful way to fully enjoy the summer months while eating local. It's farm pizza, and it is incredible. Bookmark it and put the next date on your calendar, ya'll! Don't wait so dang long like I did.

It was busy but not so much that we didn't get sat right away. Our server was also busy so someone else took our drink order - and then gave us menus. We ended up ordering the meatballs, a salad, and a classic pie, and walked out also with a cool vintage looking Pagliai's tee! The meatballs were large, came with two, and really flavorful. The sauce was classic tomato but not basic, you could taste the aromatics and that was so good. Basic salad but really delicious runny ranch to go with it, which I loved. I dipped the crust from my pizza in it and it was just so good! For the pie we split it in half - half with meats and the other half with special. The crust was thin and also seasoned nicely and couldn't say enough about how delicious the cheese was. It was so gooey and thick - it made the pizza so incredibly good. Besides our server taking us on due to the prior one being too busy, the vibes inside were chill and casual, music was good and the atmosphere was pleasant. Everyone behind the pizza counter had smiles and acknowledged you. Was a real delight. Everywhere in Grinnell folks rave about Pagliai's and we understand why. We'll definitely have to come back!

It was light and tasty and a great way to end the meal.

The only reason I had to take a star is that we cannot recommend dining in and want to give that heads up to fellow travelers. We were stopping through town on our way to see family and thought it would be easier to dine in with our toddler than taking it back to our air b n b. It was small but there were a handful of tables set up for dining in so we thought it would work ok. But when we came in and asked about dining in we were given a bugged-eyed look and they echoed, "dine in?!" But they said sure and pick a seat. It takes a bit to make me uncomfortable and doubt a person but this was not welcoming. We sat down and when our 2 year old wanted our menu, we asked for a second one and got an attitude from the same person again. At that point I threw in the towel. I can't enjoy my meal with someone questioning every single thing we did or said, especially with an unpredictable toddler. So we put in our order and left. My husband had to go back to get it. So just a fair warning to other families to be prepared for a possibly awkward dine-in experience. They also do not have high chairs - they do have booster seats but they do not buckle down. We for sure would order here again but would plan to carry-out only.

Service was great and the waiter was pretty good at making the rounds, making sure I was attended to. I was going to order the large but he insisted to get the medium knowing the pie was going to be too big. (I should have ordered the large! ). When the pie came out, everything about this pizza was a step above any slice I've ever had. I'm a uge fan , that's right "UGE" fan of Dave Portnoy 1 slice pizza review and have been dying to try the NH style type of pizza. I ordered a medium (which was uge btw) pep pizza and it came out within 10 mins. Each slice had zero flop and a beautiful undercarriage! The dough had that true charcoal oven fired tasted and the pepperoni cups were crisp and spicy! The thing that really elevated this pizza for me was that after taken it back to the hotel and microwaving it, (it lost some of it structure) but the crust was still pretty crispy! How am I'm suppose to go back to Texas now knowing this kind of slice exists!?! The place also has some pretty cool shirts which are kind of pricey but tbh will always remind me of that one time I'd almost cried eating pizza.

It was a lot of wine but a good deal! The only thing that was difficult is their printed wine menu is different from what they had available. The waitress was nice so she got some recommendations from the bartender and we were able to choose wine that way. The pizza was great, some of the best we have had in Coralville. Their pasta tasted fresh and homemade, I am not sure if it is but that was the vibe we got. The broccolini was hot!! Not in a straight out of the oven way, but in an it carries some heat way. We thought maybe there was chili oil on it? But even though we weren't expecting the heat, they were super good. The only downside to the meal was the crème brûlée, it bothers me when the top isn't crispy. Normally, you use the spoon to kind of break the sugar glass on top (i think it's sugar?) and I was sad when the sugar on top was missing from half of it. I think to make it you use a blowtorch to melt the sugar on top (?) idk how it works, but whatever that step is I think it was missed. Other than that great food and drinks!
