My first visit here and my son's 2nd. We dined on a Thursday night before UIowa classes started. The FOOD was very good. Stracciatella was an interesting appetizer- a very warm large pita/pocket bread was served with a huge pile of "stretched" mozzarella cheese on the side and sea salt. The idea is you stuff the bread with as little or as much cheese as you want. A tasty small side salad with tomatoes, crispy pieces of prosciutto, artisan baby greens and a nice creamy Italian dressing (we took off the onions). We also shared a fundraiser pizza, Chicken Parmigiana, and it was simple and delicious. No complaints on the food quality. The SERVICE was slow, even though we sat at the bar. I am taking off one as I believe customers should be both acknowledged immediately (even if you're busy making drinks) with a quick "I'll be right with you," and the bar top should always be wiped clean. We did get noticed after 5+ minutes by a nice gal with a quick smile. She took our order, served our food and ultimately apologized for the kitchen not getting our appetizer out before our salad and pizza so she discounted the bill, which is appreciated and appropriate. The AMBIANCE seemed casual and pleasant. All the diners I saw seemed to be having an enjoyable evening.

    Bruschetta

This was "bruschetta". The bread was barely toasted. The sauce was thin and went everywhere. It did not resemble any type of bruschetta I've ever had in my life. My chicken cutlet was over fried and served on a hamburger bun which was odd - missing aioli and the cheese was barely melted. The ranch on the side cost $2 which is absurd. Probably the last time I'll eat here for the foreseeable future. Service was also pretty terrible.

Environment: very nice. The concrete floor, decked out full bar, and wooden tables make a nice place to dine. The garage door at the front of the building and the access to see the fire wood oven gives this place adds to the ambiance too. Food: I had the vegan and added mozzarella cheese. It has good flavor but the toppings and the sauce made the crust a bit floppy at the end. So I had to use a fork and knife to eat the tip. My friends enjoyed their pizzas immensely. Overall I would recommend and go back.

TLDR : great server, great food, great beer. What more could you ask for? Parking can be a challenge, but there is a free parking ramp next door. The only issue which is really more of a personal preference was the pepperoni pizza had a lot of extra grease on it from the pepperonis.

We visited this place on a weekday for our anniversary dinner. I was expecting good to great food with reviews i saw. I don't want to run behind and describe my experience in details but my wife and I both weren't happy. The only good part was the waiter was very nice. He was patient with our questions. With food Bianca was good but with barely any toppings. Then with their tomato basil bisque too salty and felt discomforted after that. The most upsetting was their fries, extremely salty and burnt. Yes the place looked nice. A good rugged place, gotta bump up the food quality. Also wear thick clothes it was insanely cold in there. May be because of huge garage door and was letting the cold air in.

Just a quick note--cacio et pepi was delicious. Service was excellent. Hubs had chicken parm--it was good, as usual. Both portions large. Took leftovers back to hotel.

I came here with a group of friends after doing some wedding dress shopping next door and it was the perfect lunch spot for us to sit outside and enjoy a beautiful summer day! I noticed that they had Aperol at their bar and I knew exactly what I'd be indulging in... as I have been craving a wood-fired pizza + Aperol spritz this whole summer and have yet to happen upon a place that offers both on the menu. Let me tell you, that has to be the most perfect meal combo on the planet... Anyway, my friend and I decided to take advantage of the lunch special, which let us each have half a salad and split a pizza of our choice for $22! Really awesome value! The Aperol Spritz was pretty dang good, certainly good enough to kill my craving, but just a little watered down. The Sweet Nelson pizza was absolutely delicious and I highly recommend it! The perfect marriage of sweet, salty and spicy! The Caprese salad was okay but not what I was expecting, too much spinach an not enough basil. I really wish I would have gotten a more traditional Caprese, but I'm not mad at what I got for the price! Overall, my friends and I had a great experience and we will return!

Overall, good experience and you will not be disappointed. Flavor 4/5 - The house salad was exceptional; prosciutto was a great touch and the dressing was superior to typical Italian dressings. - Loved the pepperonis; they had a nice curl and char - Pizza was not anything special without the support of the pepperonis Price to Portion Ratio: Passed Drinks 4/5 - Generous list of whiskey, scotch, gin, etc. Supplemental Factors 4/5 - Nice aesthetics - Small outdoor dining area

The place has always impressed me with their courteous staff, even before the event. when they were coming up with the food out I was feeling so overwhelmed at first but then was blessed that I was wearing joggers instead of any jeans. Service at Maggie's was excellent--our server Harry really made the experience. We ordered two drinks: the Lemon Lavender Italian Soda (refreshing and tasty) and the Hugo Spritz. The Hugo Spritz initially just tasted like tonic water, but we let our server know and Harry kindly brought us a replacement that was much better. For food, we tried the Margherita pizza and the Ellie (caramelized onion, blue cheese, and onion). Both were decent. Seems like fresh ingredients! I am personally not a fan of blue cheese usually, but I did enjoy it. Service was super efficient--felt a little rushed but they are typically very busy on a Friday night. Dessert was a nice finish: the raspberry ice cream tasted like real raspberries, and the shortbread was decent. Only downside? Lots of flies--we found ourselves swatting them away throughout the meal. Overall, a good experience and we will be back!

The portions were TOO BIG! OMG, I barely made it through a third of my meal before I had to give up and put the rest aside for left-overs to eat later. And then, my next problem is the food itself. Tasty, delicious, perfectly prepared, and so good that just SMELLING the aromas on my drive home caused me to gain five pounds. My final complaint? I ordered two gyros, one for me and one for my better half, and nothing else. When I got home, we dug in, only to discover that they had tossed in a free order of (mouthwateringly delectable!!!) french fries. Okay, so kidding aside, the food and the service are wonderful. At $9 each, the price seems a bit high to me, but then again, everything seems expensive to me these days. A quick web-check shows me that nine bucks is about average for the area, and speaking from experience, these Gyros seem above average in quality for the area. My only other (real) complaint? The hours. With labor/wages being what they are these days, I can understand the short hours, but that doesn't mean that I LIKE them. If you want to taste a little bit of culinary heaven, keep your eye on the calendar and the clock. Gyro Hicks is open from 11AM to 1:30PM, and only open on Weds, Thurs, Fri, and Sat. Even so, it is DEFINITELY WORTH IT.
