Geyer's Oven is spectacular. My parents were visiting town last week and it happened to be a night that Geyer's Oven was hosting. They couldn't stop talking about how cool and unique the atmosphere was - from farm-field views, the garden, the people in chairs and on blankets all around, to the pizza ovens themselves, it's just a community pizza-picnic that you wandered into. What a great destination for an evening. The topping selections on the pizzas are unique (and exciting to try them all!), the dough is tasty, and it's fun to watch them make pizza after pizza that get devoured. I'm impressed at how many pizzas they can efficiently serve. Each time has a different crowd, so you may end up waiting in a line a few minutes, but the lines have an ebb and flow that seem to work out okay. Don't be too 'Iowa nice', though - sometimes people are waiting for a specific kind and you need to move ahead of them to get something else that's fresh. Since it's 'all you care to eat', you can get a few pieces at a time and leisurely chat or wait to try something else. Make sure to try whichever dessert pizza they have, even if it's the first thing you have (nobody said dessert pizza has to be last). read more

I am sad that it took me almost two years of spying Geyer's Oven from afar before I was intentional about visiting - what an amazing experience! My boyfriend and I went here last Thursday to celebrate our anniversary (I really love pizza and he knows...) by trying a new spot we had both been wanting to try. We decided to get there a little early because we weren't sure how busy it would be - I recommend this, as it gets busier the later it gets. When you arrive, you park on the grounds near the oven, are greeted by some adorable family members who accept your $12 payment for all you can eat pizza, and are invited to find a spot in the yard to spread out your picnic blanket or set up your lawn chairs. Next, you get in line and watch in wonder as the Geyer's Oven team bakes a bunch of pizzas in their brick oven and slices them up right before your very eyes. They really have a system down and it is impressive how much pizza they're able to churn out in one evening. We tried the BBQ Beef, Sriracha Chicken, Pepperoni, and Mean Green pizza and they were all delicious. They also served up a dessert pizza - which was Rhubarb Crisp - that was to die for yummy. They have lemonade, tea, and water on site, but you're welcome to BYOB which is a nice touch. This is a great place for a unique evening out, and a wonderful way to fully enjoy the summer months while eating local. It's farm pizza, and it is incredible. Yelp fans - I've got your next spot to hit up..as long as it's the 2nd or 4th Thursday of a month! What a rad spot this place is! Literally a dudes house, in a cornfield, with a couple brick ovens out back in which to make some legit pizza! Upon parking (in aforementioned corn field) you saunter on over to the back yard. A la church giving box, you pay $10 per adult and per kid based on what you think they should be charged. Next, you jump in line or in the crowd and wait for the pizza. This stuff is good and you watch it come out of the sweet brick oven(s). The pies come out 2 at a time and it's like watching locust devour a field when they come out. All you can eat, but you gotta have some etiquette - bad vibes if you stand there in front of the pizza that you don't want but don't let others in. Also, don't be timid, you'll go hungry! Things start up at 5 pm and go until around 8. Best to get here early as the pickins are best and lines are shorter. Like the roving zombie hoards on the walking dead, the hipsters and grad students showed up in force about half way through. My son threw a stick and hit three ironic t-shirts, a gaggle of bearded guys wearing skinny jeans and there were more thick brimmed glasses than he should shake said stick at. While I don't have proof, I'd venture a guess that at least a handful placed themselves in the "I'll pay what I can" category and pitched in $2 for the evening - I may be wrong....maybe. Regardless, their presence made for good conversation fodder and the lines gave all of us a reason to eat a few slices less than we may otherwise have. End of the day, you gotta try this place if you're in the area for any of the summer months. Every 2nd and 4th Thursday, they're ready for business and will make you ask "I wonder if I could do this?". The answer is, probably, but it'd be hard to be this good at it and top this experience. Geyer's Oven has the feeling of being a hidden gem that everyone knows about. This review is based on my visits over the summer of 2017 and therefore things might change after. Part of a family farm (maybe I might have just made this up) Geyer's Oven is an all you can eat pizza place in the middle of the Iowa farmland. Every other Thursday night the pizza is made before your eyes using only seasonal and local ingredients. They usually have between 5-8 pizzas they make including a dessert pizza. Here are the facts you need to know before you head out: They are only opened every other Thursday from May-September. The exact dates can be found on their Facebook page. It is BYOB, chairs, blankets. They have two or three picnic tables and a large property to spread your picnic blanket or chairs. They do provide water and lemonade but that is all. There is not bar nor other beverages available. The cost is $12 or pay as you are able. Little ones cost less. It is the honor system. You drop your CASH into a bucket at the entry and head to the oven to grab as many slices of pizza as you can eat! I highly recommend arriving promptly at 5pm when they open. By 6:30 the lines are insane and there are many people on the grass and lawns surrounding the house. There are two large ovens and one smaller oven going continuously- they have pizzas going in and coming out every minute or so. The lines get crazy as the evening progresses (go early!) The atmosphere is incredible. Everyone is jovial and seems to feel like they are in on the secret. And the secret is pizza! read more

Pizza here is decent. More unique than your traditional one topping pizzas (they have different types of pizza each time... this time - jalapeno/corn/bacon on one pizza, corn/sausage, squash/kale on another, dessert pizza, and many more), but not THE best pizza I've ever tasted. But still, 5 stars for this place because of the atmosphere and unique experience. Who gets to enjoy all you can eat pizza straight out of the brick oven outside with as many friends as you want (on lawn chairs, blankets) on a farm (with cows in the near distance...but not close enough for any smell to disrupt your pizza experience). Line up as many times as you want and eat as much pizza as you want. The owners seem very nice and generous as they charge $12/person (you pay however much you want for your kids), but just let you drop in your money upon entrance into a box. And the sign says to pay as you're able to. Pretty nice concept and trusting/friendly atmosphere which makes the experience even more desirable. A must-visit in Iowa if you're never been before. read more

This place is phenomenal! Tonight was our 1st night trying it and we arrived a tad early. Everyone was so helpful and answered any questions so we could have a great experience. Nothing disappointed!! All the pizza selections were fantastic, my girls actually ate 2 pieces of pizza PLUS dessert pizza, and we all had the best time being in the country. Five stars for a fun, unique environment and experience. Bring your own lawn chairs or blankets and you can sit on the grass wherever you want. It costs $12 now for all you can eat pizza (and pay as much as you feel like you should for kids), but it's kinda set up like a donation box on the side and you pay on the honors system. You sit outside on a farm (at least there are cows in view pretty close ..but not close enough to smell :p), eat pizza, and hangout with friends! Line up for pizza, pizzas come out quickly from brick ovens, and they go fast too. The line was a little longer than I anticipated (a whole school bus of kids arrived at the same time as us), but might as well just come with friends, hangout on the line, and relax. It's all you can eat, so you can take as many pieces as you want and keep going back on the line. They have drinks as well (lemonade and water when we went). I believe the types of pizza change depending on what kind of ingredients they have that day. The pizza is thin crust...I do wish the crust was a little crispier, but it kinda varies from pizza to pizza. They had a lot of different types of pizza to choose from (some were pretty unique combinations) and even a dessert pizza (triple berry topped with frosting). Open from 5-8 every 2nd and 4th Thursday from May to September. We will definitely be back and bring more friends with us next time! read more

A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. I'd heard of this place for years and never had the time to go until recently. It's open second and fourth Thursdays of the month during summer. It's a beautiful location, where you picnic among the garden and trees. The ever-changing menu of unlimited wood-oven fired pizzas is incredible. These aren't your average pizza, either. When I went, there was creamy asparagus, cheeseburger, sirarcha bbq chicken, herb, meat lovers, several that I'm forgetting, and rhubarb pizza for dessert. It's the perfect setting for a relaxed gathering and donation-based with suggested $12. What more could you want? read more

If you're reading this review because you're trying to decide if it's worth spending your second or fourth Thursday at the month at Geyer's, just go. You'll have a great time. Your kids will love it. Don't go for the pizza alone though, because it's just okay. Very bready, too light on toppings and sauce. Almost like you're eating really good breadsticks. Spend some time in their garden, bring friends or make some new ones, and bring a ball or some games. A place like this could go on for another 50 years or could be done tomorrow, so don't miss out. read more

Near the house is a table with sign in book and can to deposit your $12 for adults. Then proceed to back yard to the 2 pizza ovens. They bake the pizza and place on big tables. There is usually people hanging around the tables to take pizza when it comes out. Most people just step right up and take a slice or two. Some people wait for a certain kind of pizza. Overall pizza was good brick oven fired pizza. Not the best pizza I have eaten, but good. All you can eat for $12. I had the cheeseburger, cheese, jalapeño popper, pepperoni and dessert apple crisp pizza. 1-2 slices of each. Nice outdoor atmosphere. read more

I couldnt tell you if it's the scenic drive out there, sitting on a blanket at dusk and watching the sun set or if it really just is the best damn pizza in the world. I love everything about Geyer's. The staff are so fun and friendly, the pizza is brick oven fired and each slice... each BITE is different from the last. There are kids running around and throwing footballs and seniors sitting in lawn chairs talking about the good ol' days. I go to Geyer's with my closest friends and I bet that has something to do with it too. We talk and laugh and go back for more before we make our way back to CR. I hope this place never goes away. It's special. I can guarantee you will not regret the trip to Geyer's Oven. Be prepared to make some great memories!! read more

What a fun place that practically streams "Iowa"! In a large backyard in the middle of farm lands, you'll find three brick pizza ovens pumping out pie after pie. To get there, you first have to drive from "urban" places like Iowa City or Cedar Rapids, then pay up ($12 a person for unlimited pizza isn't a bad deal), and unless you've somehow timed it perfectly, you'll also have to wait in a decently long line, which only seems to get longer. BUT the wait is worth it. The pizzas themselves feature a creative variety of fresh and delicious toppings. When I visited, I tried elderberry + caramelized onion + feta, tomato + garlic, and a summer squash + leek option. They had at least an equal number of non-vegetarian choices, like sweet corn + jalapeno + bacon, not to mention a dessert pizza of apple + oats. If pizza isn't your thing, you've come to the wrong place, because that's all they have (obviously). But if you're like me and you dream of a good slice, then BYOB, take a picnic blanket or lawn chairs, and camp out for an evening of good company and perhaps even better grub! read more

I just recently found out about this and was able to catch this on the last night of the season (I think according to the website). Totally worth the trip! I couldn't believe how many people were there. The parking looked like a fairground. At first I was a little worried by the long lines, but they kept them moving and I had no trouble getting my fill. The rueben pizza was awesome! At last count I heard they had made 225 pizzas tonight! The setting was really cool, like a big family picnic on a farm. Definitely bring some chairs, beer, wine, and candles. Some people brought a whole setup with banquet tables, table cloths, candles, etc. and made their own little romantic dinner experience. Kids ran around freely and played in the treehouse and tag. Really glad I went to check this out. read more

Holy cow. This place is amazing. Do you want a nice relaxing atmosphere? Check! How about amazing pizza? Oh yeah. Summer squash with olive oil was my favorite. Wife loved the beets, walnut, and feta cheese. This is an absolute must. Dont care where you live. If you are within an hour make the trip and you won't be disappointed. Just know you wont be alone. The night we went this place did the amount of business that would make a traditional brick and mortar jealous. Walking in I counted over 100 cars. The wait for pizza isn't bad and there is plenty to eat. read more

Love this place! Think someone cooking you quality pizza and letting you have a picnic in their beautiful yard. This is the place. Just about 5 miles south of Oxford, they have two stone hearths that they cook the pizza in and then lay it out on a table for the guests to help themselves. They also occasionally have bread available for sale as well. This is quality pizza not chain pizza by any stretch of the imagination. The only thing you might need to bring with you is a blanket to sit on but other then that they have everything there. Bring your appetite and $10 per person and this is a quality evening without having to do anything except get there! read more
