I had to call later and ask how they prepared them to make them like that for him. Haha. My Mom stayed with him and staff was super nice to both of my parents. Therapy was two hours a day, Dad worked really hard and was able to go home within about a week. He had his hair cut while he was as there, the barber did a great job.

She threatened my granddaughter with the police and having her mom arrested. My granddaughter went there for help and this woman bullied her. She overwhelmed my granddaughter. She physically touched my granddaughter by poking her fingernail in my granddaughters leg. She told my granddaughter that if her mom got arrested it would be her fault for not doing what she said (AMY). We expressed that we wanted to leave and she told us "It's a locked building and I am NOT letting you out." She told us we would stay all night if we had to because she was not letting us leave. She was yelling at me, my daughter and granddaughter. She walked out the door and slammed it hard. The clinician however was really nice and compassionate. He heard what had happened and heard the door slam as he was in the room across the hall. He expressed that Amy was in the wrong and that we were in fact free to leave. I don't know his name but he was very compassionate and was not trying to bully my granddaughter in to staying.

I was a patient at IU Health Bloomington Hospital from June 13 through June 20, spending a full…read moreweek there. When I arrived, I was extremely sick with pancreatitis and absolutely miserable. I spent my first 30 hours in the emergency department waiting for a room to become available upstairs. Over the past 12 years, I've been in and out of IU hospitals more times than I can count, including Methodist, Fishers, North, and West. I've always received good care, but my experience at IU Health Bloomington was, without question, the best hospital experience I've ever had. I wasn't just dealing with the physical pain of pancreatitis. My father had passed away only a week earlier, so I was struggling emotionally as well. Every member of the staff, including the doctors, nurses, patient care technicians, therapists, kitchen staff, and housekeeping, treated me with genuine kindness and compassion. Whenever they had a few extra minutes, they would stop and talk with me, letting me vent and helping me through a very difficult time. Because I was an hour and a half from home, it wasn't practical for my wife to visit, especially with today's gas prices. The hospital staff became my visitors. Not once did anyone make me feel like I was taking up too much of their time. Several staff members even walked the halls with me so I could get out of my room. One person took me to the gift shop so I could buy some sugar-free hard candy. I also needed a phone charger, and I was pleasantly surprised to learn the gift shop provides patients with a free charging cable and charging block if they need one. As someone who has been hospitalized more times than I'd like to admit, I can't tell you how many times I've forgotten a charger. At one point, I mentioned that I was constantly hot and asked if they happened to have a fan I could borrow. They brought me a nice battery-operated fan. I was told they can't sanitize and reuse them, so patients get to take them home after discharge. It may seem like a small thing, but little acts of kindness like that made a huge difference. One thing I also have to mention is the food. Let's be honest, hospital food doesn't usually have the best reputation. Somehow, IU Health Bloomington missed that memo. The meals were exceptionally good. There were plenty of choices, everything I received was fresh and well prepared, and the kitchen staff were just as friendly and accommodating as everyone else I encountered. The chicken parmigiana was almost as good as Olive Garden--I know because I had dined there a week prior. I was certainly happy to get home, but my stay was about as pleasant as a week in the hospital with pancreatitis could possibly be. I only wish IU Health Bloomington were closer to where I live. I had written down the names of many staff members I wanted to recognize personally, but unfortunately I've misplaced that notebook. I hope someone at IU Health Bloomington sees this review and lets the staff know how much I appreciated everything they did. During one of the hardest weeks of my life, they treated me with compassion, dignity, and humanity. I'll never forget it.

The nursing staff, admissions, and others, were very good to mediocre, and even dangerous. They are maxed. Full hospital and ER when I arrived. Fifteen hours from ER to get to a bed. They ignore alarms, call buttons, and are really harrowed as a nursing staff. They're poor communicators. They are rushed. Yes, there are excellent nursing staff (RN/LPN) and a few that don't have time, are not situationally aware, and at worst, deliver dangerous care. It's my guess that certain administrators and MBAs need to be sacked, and the quality of care revisited, as it is not endemic, it is not a goal, and it is not woven into what they do-- the professional staff excepted. If you can avoid going here for ER/ED treatment, go somewhere else. This place is screaming over-capacity, and terrible interdepartmental communications; this was my anecdotal experience. YMMV.

Very unprofessional, uncaring establishment. I had an appt with the social worker to fill out paper…read morework for respite care. I showed up and the social worker was a no show. Instead, the receptionist talked to me to say she was there to help me instead but she didn't really know what the social worker and I spoke about and the reason of my visit. She said, "you just want resources" when the reason for my visit was to fill out paperwork. I already have all the literature from a previous visit. After I left, I called the receptionist to tell her that just blowing off an appt with a client is not acceptable, specially since they are in the business of caring and dealing with people under a lot of stress. My voice was stressed and I was upset but I wasn't screaming. She said, I can't scream at her or she'll hang up the phone, then before I can respond she hang up the phone. Where's the compassion and the professionalism that one should expect from an institution like this? I can just imagine how they treat patients staying there who have dementia and can't speak for themselves. One would think that they would treat the family decently at least until the patient is in so one if left to wonder how bad they get after that.

Please do not take your loved ones here. They are always short staffed and what staff they do have…read morechanges frequently because they do not treat their staff well. Nursing directors here also change frequently. Although they call themselves an Alzheimer's Special Care Facility, they are quick to tell families that they must provide and pay for additional help when your loved one needs additional assistance such as eating, bathing, and just general attention. They are quick to send patients to behavioral hospitals when they feel that they are even remotely out of sorts. Any decent Alzheimer's facility would realize that this is part of the disease and that any changes in environment can have devastating and lasting effects on the patient. If you do decide to consider this facility, please spend an afternoon there and observe. They have also had several deaths due to falls of patients who were not properly supervised, respiratory infections and one from sepsis.
