Honest Review- The atmosphere at stonedrift spa was amazing. I had came for a signature facial which was $140. While the facial was nice, it was rushed and didn't feel like a $140 facial. My skin was quite irritated afterwards and I left extremely red. I asked to make sure that this was normal and they said it was. The atmosphere in there was so extremely calming but I expected a bit more for the price. About two hours after my facial my redness went away and my skin felt nice but I probably wouldn't go there again for a facial, maybe a massage or another service. read more

My husband bought me a prenatal package for my birthday and it was fantastic!! Had the most incredible facial of my entire life from Madison!!! The massage and the pedicure were also awesome, I am just most impressed by the facial experience. My skin has never felt better and everything smelled amazing. Did not get a chance to use some of the other amenities like the steam or hot tubs, but they seemed great. The place is pretty large in terms of treatment spaces. They have a relaxation room where you can hang out before getting picked up for your treatments. It was well decorated and cozy, but with the large groups waiting there not always the quietest. If nothing more than the massage table was my whole experience, I would still give it 5 stars. Their tables allow the massage therapist to automatically drop the chest area when a woman is laying on her stomach. It was such a welcome and comfortable experience that I've never had at any other spa and I'm wondering why no one else has these amazing tables. The therapist was awesome and the spa had a lovely relaxation room with snacks and drinks as well as a separate changing area with showers and hot steam room. I was quite pleased with the bill which was under $200 for an 80 minute massage and all the amenities. One of the best spa experiences I've had in years. read more

Sarah was my fantastic esthetician and I cannot begin to say enough positive things about Sarah and the entire experience. The facility is beautiful, so welcoming and so relaxing. I have no idea why I waited so long to get a facial but I certainly will be doing it again soon. It was truly an experience that I was not expecting! A warm massage chair to lay on, dim lit room, lovely music, hot towels and wonderful products. I always thought a facial would be just cleaning your face and applying some moisturizer. I can't speak to the spa experience because I only got a manicure and didn't see much of anything. The $40, 25-minute manicure was ... fine. Not the best I've had, but not the worst. Granted, my expectations were low. My boyfriend, however, raved about his massage. Hence, the three stars. I think the move to the new detached building will be an upgrade. It will be more spa-like as you won't be able to hear the kids screaming in the nearby indoor swimming pool. read more

I would like to take a moment to spread some good news. For our 5th wedding anniversary, my wife and I wanted to treat ourselves, and why not since the last two years of global pandemic slowed everything down! So we decided to invest in a spa day for ourselves. Stonedrift Spa recently opened their new facility and had they not told us prior to our service, we would not have known different as the service was world class and seamlessly transitioned between each option we chose. During those breaks, we were able to snag moments of relaxation, tea, and little snack bites including chocolate covered almonds and pretzels. Honoring the 5th anniversary "wood" requirement, the relaxing aroma of the fresh wood throughout the facility put us at ease as we were shown to the relaxation room prior to our Swedish couples massage. Our providers gave top notch massages that started our day off on a high note. We stayed on that high note throughout the rest of the day as we received manicures and pedicures (hand detailing and foot detailing, for the gentlemen), and finished with eminence facials. The entire day helped us slow our busy lives down and feel relaxed. I can't recall each of our providers by name, but they were all outstanding, curious, and caring to ensure a quality experience for my wife and I. I felt that vibe run throughout the entire spa, especially as we witnessed an unhappy customer being handled in a professional and calm manner. A group of girlfriends and I came on a Sunday in April for some spa services and really enjoyed ourselves. The spa wasn't too busy when we were there for our 11 am appointments, but April doesn't appear to be a busy time of year for this town in general. I was immediately impressed by the fact that they use the Eminence skin care line since I know they are high quality and gentle. The host checked us right in, and gave us delicious cucumber water to drink before heading to the locker room area. The locker room area was really clean, and included items like razors, shampoo, etc to use after a shower. Before heading to our treatments, we were provided with homemade breakfast bars and tea in the relaxation room. My friends had massages, and I had the rain water therapy/wrap. Even though I found this treatment in the online brochure, I wasn't fully sure what to expect from it to be honest. I would best describe this service as a super powered shower. After the products are applied, several shower heads come over your body to wash it off while you are laying face up on the table. A small towel was put over my face, but at one point I had water going into my nose because of the large volume of water (my esthetician did make some adjustments once I informed her of this). I think that this service could be improved by either making sure that the shower heads stay away from the head, or having less water pressure/volume during the treatment. I enjoyed a majority of the rain therapy treatment, but this is not a treatment I would likely get again. My friends said positive things about their massages, so during my next visit I probably would try one of those out. read more

This is my second massage here. I love this place. Ambiance is tranquil and peaceful. The providers deliver exceptional massages each time. When I returned to work the following week, my coworker literally stopped in her tracks then did a double-take and loudly shouted, "Wow, you look rested!" It is definitely worth the drive from Chicago. I will continue to get massages on a routine basis and I hope I haven't been too spoiled by Stonedrift Spa. I visited twice during midweek and Saturday. A mixed experience, but I would consider going again. Pro: super steamy steam room, relaxing treatments, Eminence skin care products, the lounge. Pedicure slippers, plush robes, and fruit-flavored waters. Con: front desk staff can be unfriendly-ish, busy during the weekends, some estheticians may lack experience, the prices seem higher than the quality of the services. My spa day was a birthday gift from my collage-age daughter. She chose the Drifting Hot Stone massage and I chose the Muscle Melter massage. Since I carry a lot of stress in my neck & shoulders (work a desk job) this treatment couldn't have been better. Christy is amazing & used techniques that addressed every problem area. Before we arrived, I was actually in pain and had such a limited range of motion. However, I was shocked to realize that I had a 25% improvement following my massage. That is amazing! Her techniques were so gentle yet so effective! It was like heaven! My daughter recommends the hot stones as this relieved her muscle pain from sports and minor injuries. Todd was helpful in suggesting stretches to further help following her massage. This facility has so much to offer. We even enjoyed the steam room after our sessions. This place is lovely. I scheduled our appointments over the phone and the woman on the other end was professional and accommodating. I scheduled a facial for myself and a hot stone massage for my husband. The locker facilities are well maintained and large enough. I opted to use the shower here rather than in my room. Only complaint, the amenities they offer are cheap drug store brands, for example, Aussie hair spray, Garnier mouse, etc. For such an upscale spa I think they'd offer different products to use. Regardless, it was clean, there was a steam room and anything you'd need for your shower/after shower. The relaxation room was rather small and was pretty cramped with other spa goers. They do offer fruit infused water along with fruit and granola bars. My facial was relaxing and I thought Sarah did a nice job. My skin looked great afterward. My husband came out of his massage delirious, clearly super relaxed, needless to say he enjoyed it. I have to mention the locker room attendant, Ann. She was darling! All in all this is a nice spa, I'd recommend going at an off time or day if you wanted to enjoy the relaxation room a bit more. read more

Ohhhh my. This place left me feeling so relaxed, I couldn't focus my eyes for about 15 minutes after my treatment (splurged for the Mystic Stone Sage Ritual designed especially for "spa queens.") Seriously, the lady had to lead me by the elbow to the relaxation room afterwards... and I just sat there in a darkened corner, with my hair sticking out every which way (it included a scalp massage!!!), staring at a warm fire, without the need or desire to move or maybe even comb my hair. I probably looked a little frightening, but I was just that relaxed. I made an appointment here to fill up the day while my friends went skiing - hey, last time I went skiing I stretched my ACL, and have no desire to spend money doing something that truly terrifies me. So instead, I went to Stonedrift. As my friends continue to go skiing in Galena for that yearly weekend away, I will continue to ditch them for the day so that I can look forward to my time at Stonedrift Spa. P.S. My honey and I stayed here mainly for the spa package they offered. The spa was excellent, however the rooms are outdated and not very attractive. The bath was chipping and we decided to forgo it and utilize the shower in the spa after our services. The night before, we decided to pre-order room service breakfast. We gave them over a 12 hour notice, and yet our food arrived late... making us unable to visit town before our spa services. The room service staff is also uneducated with what their own packages include. One employee will tell you one thing, while another the next day will contradict what you were told. We'll go back to the spa, however the rooms are below par for what they charge. My opinion? Opt for a hotel closer to the historic town of Galena. read more

Had a 80 min massage here with Christina, I usually have a difficult time relaxing but Christina was very welcoming and as soon as she started on my legs I knew this was going to be a great treatment. Her technique and pace was perfect. She also actually read my area of concerns that I filled out on the paper - which were lower legs, neck/shoulders. She concentrated on the legs and it was amazing! Shoulders and neck a little underwhelming but I probably should have asked for more pressure. Also her technique for the back was great. I visited this spa a few weeks ago with 4 others to celebrate a 50th birhtday. While my Bamboo Thai Massage (Brooke) was amazing, the atmosphere of the Spa itself was not so great. There were several issues, but primarily they all revolve around waiting. When we arrived for our appointments, we each had to wait in line to be checked in. There were 5 other women checking in at the same time, but only one person verifying appointments. After all of us (both parties) were checked in, we were brought back to the locker room to change. Due to the size of the group, those in the back couldn't hear explainations and those in the front had to pass it back (kind of like playing telephone as a kid). While the locker room was nice, it was not big enough for 10 women to comfortably get undressed, so several of us waited. Once in the relaxation room, again, the room is nice, but just not large enough for this volume of clients. After my wonderful massage, I planned to shower before we left for the day. Unfortunately, so did everyone else and once again, we waited. Added to the large number of clients getting done at the same time, one of the 3 showers was out of order, making it that much worse. Thinking this was the end of my waiting, I was suprised to find once again, I waited to check out and pay, even though I was one of the last of the group to leave the locker room. Bottom line: if you have the room to accomodate this many clients at the same time, either build a larger facility, or just stagger the appointments so that we don't spend all this time waiting. read more

I've been coming here since 2006, when my family first bought a house in the Galena resort. So I have lots of experiences on which to base this review. I've tried massages, facials, manis and pedis. All were pretty good and no complaints. I did keep coming back, after all. :) But I'm giving only three stars. I wish I could give 3.5 but will cut it to 3 because of this recent experience with someone named Pam. Usually I go to Michelle - she is AWESOME. She gets it right the first time, is gentle, really knows how to shape a brow - that is an impressive skill if you ask me - and always gives me great advice for taking care of my skin. But this time, they could only fit me in with Pam, so I took the appt. because it was the only one available. What a mistake, I should have passed on it. When I've gotten a lip/brow wax with Michelle, I get to lay on a massage table in a quiet, relaxing room with dimmed lights. This time I was led into the mani/pedi room and told to sit on the banquette with the nail table to my right, the pedi tub to my left. A towel was on the headrest. I was told to lean back, and the lamp from the mani table was directed to the side of my face. It was a VERY uncomfortable position. To top it off the customer to my left was having a pedicure and her conversation with the technician was really annoying to listen to. But I digress. I did realize that I made the appt. last minute, so I would not have complained if Pam were to do a great job with my waxing. Unfortunately she didn't. She slathered on the wax on ALL areas at once. In twelve years of doing this, no aesthetician has ever applied wax to all areas on my face at once - they work on each area separately. So by the time she applied the cloth, the wax was almost dried up and didn't pull all the hair off. Then she hands me a mirror and says "Take a look and tell me if I missed anything." UMMM..OF COURSE YOU DID. A LOT. I pointed out the areas and she said "oh, of course..." and then waxed the areas again. And then handed me the mirror again. I pointed out more missed areas again. She waxed again. And then handed me the mirror again. It was absurd. She wasn't even going to wax the area between my brows, until I pointed that out, too. By the end of it I wanted to be done and get out. I paid my $50. It was WAY too much for what she did, I was so upset that I paid so much that I just gave a $5 tip. Then I went home and plucked the remaining areas to clean it up. So if you go there for this service, go to Michelle, not Pam. Otherwise I love this place and always get treated well. Went in for a couples massage. It was fantastic. No waiting, the front desk showed us each separately the locker room and relaxation room. Todd and Kari were excellent. Very relaxing massage. We went all out for the chocolate covered strawberries and champaign. The strawberries were excellent and the champaign was good. They give you an entire bottle, not just a glass!!! The Best SPA in Jo Davies County! The welcome was warm upon entering the reception area and the eucalyptus smell immediately put you in that zen spa feel. The entire staff was so friendly, the locker room was fully stocked with anything you could possibly need and the steam room was perfect. This review is just on the massage I just had the past weekend. My boyfriend and I came for a couples massage and I ask for a deep tissue to work out all my knots. The masseuse I had this time I had no clue what was going on. I asked her to focus on my neck, shoulders, and lower back. She worked on the legs and arms well but the others was like omg. What are you doing? I figured different people has different techniques. Before we flipped over, I asked again to work more on my shoulders and she said she will once I flipped over. I was so DISAPPOINTED and UPSET! That was the WORST massage I ever had. My neck and shoulders still was tense. They are suppose to be professional and im assuming know what they are doing. Now I have to find time to get another massage. Such a waste of money!!! My boyfriend enjoyed his very much. So when you make an appointment ask for Pamela, i think that was her name. I've been getting facials and massages at the Stonedrift Spa for 6 years now and I have to say, the facials at Stonedrift are the best I've ever had. However... Facilities: The front desk staff tends to be a bit snooty unless they think you're a homeowner in the territory. The spa is gorgeous and serene.... unless you're there on a weekend or holiday. The "relaxation room" is waaay too small for the volume of customers. People end up standing in the hallway because there are no chairs left. There's inevitably a group of women talking at full volume despite the cramped quarters, low lighting and trickling water sound-effects meant to soothe you. God forbid you're there the same time as a bachelorette party! I try to book the first appointment of the day so I can show up super-early and get some peace and quiet before my treatment. They provide cucumber water, coffee cake and a variety of fruit - yum! The spa showers and steam room are really excellent so make sure you show up early enough to use them before you head into the sometimes-relaxing relaxation room. Massages: They're above average. The 50-minute massages seem a bit rushed so I'd go with the 80-minute option if you're really looking to relax. I see greater long-term benefits from the facials so I typically pick facial over massage at Stonedrift. Facials: I get the Signature Facial. It's a great blend of moisture, cleansing and exfoliation for my 20-something skin. I think Michelle is the better of the two estheticians... she accomplishes more in 50 minutes and adjusts her services depending on your requests. Sarah gives a more relaxing facial (gentler, no questions) but if I'm there to improve my skin I schedule Michelle. Make sure you shower beforehand because you won't want to wash your face after the treatment. Your skin glows for days. Overall, this is a really beautiful spa with especially good facials. It is a bit pricey compared to less posh spas but the prices are considerably less than places like the Ritz, where the massages are nowhere near as good! If you're in the area, do visit the Stonedrift Spa - - but schedule your appointment in advance! They book up quickly! read more

This place was okay at best....booked a massage and facial for my mom and I, which def wasn't cheap...hoping to have a relaxing girls day while we were staying in downtown Galena close by....when we arrived the woman who greeted us was very nice, gave us a tour and explained what to do, locker area etc....that's when it got weird...after we got into robes we made our way to the "relaxation room" ...the place was PACKED with people, all of which were CRAMMED into a tiny little space...my mom and I had to sit literally on top of other people to wait for our technicians...makes it even more awkward when you are half naked...my mom said she enjoyed her massage and facial, mine were okay...the massage therapist I had talked way to much, about my spine, about my hips...did this weird 1,2,3 countdown thing EVERYtime she used a stone which I thought was super unnecessary...I had mentioned I had hot stone before and if you are using them correctly it shouldn't be startling when one comes in contact with your skin....not to mention I was there to relax which I wrote on my form prior to treatment...if I'm quiet that's a cue right? Should be. She did have great work with her hands that I experienced after each stone, but it was limited which made me think I should've just booked a reg massage...I was surprised that the tension in my muscles were still very much present afterwards...didn't really feel like I had had a massage at all... the Esthetician on the other hand didn't talk at all...I guess it was up to me to ask questions but almost every facial I've had they at least let you know what they observe after they look at your skin under the lamp and tell you what they are about to do and why..none of that...also the moments she did with her hands were so limited she basically did the same thing over and over again...at one point I was thinking just stop already...(never a good sign) in between our services my mom and I had to sit in the hallway...yes hallway, because the waiting area was jam packed...after our services we went back into the changing area where they proceeded to bring in new guests to give them a tour of the room WHILE we were trying to change, the woman never seemed to move it along so that we could do so, she just keep talking on as if it was supposed to be no big deal that my naked body was exposed during her tour for the next guests to see...over all the place seemed clean and it was pretty but that's where it ends...for the prices here and what is presented I would NEVER come back.
