I lived at Stonegate for 4 years. The area is quiet and beautiful. So soothing to take a walk and see deer, beautiful flowers, birds - you name it. The office staff were very responsive to me and the maintenance staff was excellent. I could not hear my neighbors. I had a 3 bedroom upstairs apartment. Great closet space. My family and I enjoyed the pool, the clubhouse, the fitness room and the dog parks. I miss it there terribly. read more

Stonegate was where I called home for 7 years. The BEST apartment I have ever lived in! They finally have a magnificent management team of Ann and Christine!! I can not say enough good things about these two amazing ladies! They were alway friendly, patient and accommodating! They say some people go that extra mile, these women go way beyond the extra mile. Stonegate is a gem in the midst of mediocrity in the Middle Island area. Every picture that you see is what the complex really does look like! Except that the Clubhouse has been remodeled to look even more wonderful than it was before. The pool-always clean. Exercise room clean. Clubhouse with tv, electric fireplace, sitting/studying room with tables and chairs. Full kitchen minus oven for throwing private parties. Free coffee to grab for a day at the pool. Management and maintenance crew is what will make or break your stay when you are living in an apartment. There were new maintenance people added shortly before I left so I can't speak fully about them except that they are both very respectful. Gabe going above and beyond at all times. Neighbors you have no control over unfortunately. I had many new neighbors move In and out in those years. Have made many a good friend and met some very nice people. Although most people do keep to themselves. If neighbors knew each other and exchanged phone numbers like we did in the past one little phone call to say "hey would you mind not playing music so loud or late" Or if not comfortable with giving out #s then a simple polite note will do. ** I happen to like rap but my new neighbor played blasting satanical rap music, like evil monster sounds set to music lol very odd There are some people that move into a new complex and unfortunately were not raised properly enough to make any attempt to get to know their new neighbors. The only bad neighbor I had -well- all I can say is thank goodness I moved out. How is it possible to have issues with a neighbor and offer an olive branch and bring them a bouquet of flowers and have them practically give you a dirty look and say "thanks". Rather than trying to work out a few kinks they say nothing to their new neighbor but run to management with every little issue. Wether it is a one time occurrence or not. PARKING IS ALWAYS AN ISSUE IN APARTMENT LIVING Although there are no assigned parking spots some new neighbors begin by taking over someone's parking spot that they have parked in for seven years and when asked why they can't move over one spot just one spot their answer was "I don't want to get my feet wet" lol and WOW. I'm and older person and like the idea that I could see my brand new car out of my kitchen window. Too much to ask for I guess? The parking situation in this unit was for a very long time an issue. There were 6 units with 5 spots and one handicapped. There were no handicapped tenants in this unit. I was the only one that brought this up to management for years. Finally when the excellent current management came in they resolved the issue. Yes, no assigned parking but now enough spots that would not have been there if it weren't for me hounding Stonegate. (old management) Yes, no assigned spots. Yes people with garages are supposed to forfeit their assigned spot. Resulting in a new neighbor taking TWO spots. No, that is not a fair policy. Garages are not cheap. I was renting a unit I deserved a spot for the price of the unit and I deserved a spot for the price of the garage. ** most people do not get assigned a garage next to their unit** Both top and lower units were allowed to barbecue when I moved in. I owned a fire pit which at the time was allowed. I used the fire pit for many years until my new rude self centered neighbor moved in. There was ONE night that the person building the fire made it too big. That was a ONE time unfortunate incident. There was ALWAYS a screen on the pit. The neighbor ran to management yet again (allegedly) and I was told to have it removed from my premises within 48 hours. Which I did. The holier than though non smokers that have absolutely no patience with smokers move into a smoking complex and immediately get annoyed that people smoke? Huh? The entire complex became smoke free A MONTH earlier than Nov/2017 on October 1, 2017. I lived there for seven years and had to move out with only 3 months notice because of this change in policy. I have since heard of a renter that was not applying to new regulations who is being asked to vacate. Radiant heaters on the ceiling don't make the apartments super warm but a $20 small heater makes a whole room so cozy warm Ripping apart walls to add more insulation is ridiculously naive. Pros: Nice tennis courts with lights, great gas grills, a nice club house, basketball courts, two bedrooms have two big rooms and not one big and one small. Pretty nice place Cons: The super is an ass. They have a bad habit of coming into your apartment without warning (they will call to tell you, but if you do not answer you basically get a message saying they are going in). Finally, the final straw is in the middle of a recession, they raised rent by 5% when every other complex was dropping rent and on top of it instead of offering cash as a re-signing bonus they offered a microwave. Stayed in this place for a very short time (Did not complete the lease term)because of some personal issues. Construction: Very poor insulation, everything is old. I used to pay a min $200 for gas and electricity. Maintenance: Not horrible but one person is responsible for all units.... Staff: Torturous when it comes to collecting money e-g rent/deposit etc..., irresponsible when it comes to any help/service requested. Rent: Unusually high for such a low quality apartment. GYM: Just basic, nothing that will motivate you to go there. No sanitizers etc... Deposit: Two months worth rent and 2 months notice. Never ever heard of this before in the 3 other apartments I lived before this one. Infact, one of the previous apartment management returned the lease break penalty saying my apartment was rented out within a couple of days of my vacation. There are many more reasonable apartments near by in terms of every factor I mentioned. Responsiveness in situations like Hurricane Sandy and Snowstorm: Absolutely poor and pathetic. We had to plough out snow on our own during the snow storm. They don't even care to give a courtesy call to the residents to find out how they have been doing and if we needed any help during those times. PS: The objective of this review is not personally attack anyone but to make future tenants aware of my opinion on Stonegate, Middle Island, NY. Stay away from this place! read more

Stonegate is a quiet, peaceful community surrounded by beautiful woodlands and abundant wildlife. It is immaculately maintained, and amenities include a pool, fitness center, billiards room, business center, and an elegant community center. The apartments are spacious and well laid out, and include washer/dryers in each unit. First floor units have patios, while upper units have decks. The community is "pet-friendly" -- and it's very difficult to find an apartment that actively welcomes pets. read more

This is a nice development with more amenities for your money compared to other luxury rentals in the area. The bedrooms are large with walk in closets. The kitchen is a bit small, but functional. The 2 and 3 bedroom units have a full second bathroom. Washer, dryer, and dishwasher are convenient pluses to the unit. There are quite a few down sides however. For starters the winter months are brutal on your heating costs and you never really feel as warm as you want. I think it needs better insulation. The place is poorly structured to where even though I have never smoked in my life, my unit would frequently smell like cigarettes from others who smoke in their units. I made it quite clear at the time I signed my lease that due to my sons asthma, I could not have a unit where I'd smell cigarette smoke. They say the property will be smoke free by November of 2017, but I find that will definitely be difficult to regulate. There are some sections that have people living there that do whatever they want as if it were they're private home not considering the other tenants around them. People take up 2 parking spots in front of the units. Garage holders still park in front of the units when the lease asks to park in front of their garage, if they've purchased it. I've had someone who has a garage, put a note on my car asking me to park in the stall in front of my unit, as if they had such a far distance to walk. Walls are kind of thin so I occasionally hear conversations, someone playing a piano, a guitar and singing very poorly to where it sounds as if they're just yelling. Lower units are allowed to barbecue, but someone burns wood logs which completely engulfs the unit, which makes the place smells as if it's on fire. I had to close my patio door because the burning of these logs literally set the alarms off. The next day the place still smells as if there's been a fire. I only hope my clothes and furniture doesn't. This could all be limited to the section I reside, but you only see a sample unit when viewing and not the unit that you'll be living in, so if possible question others in the section you'll be living before signing. read more

November 18, 2011 My wife and I have lived at Stonegate Apartments since June of 2010. When we first came to Stonegate to view the apartments we were shown two different units. The units are nice and spacious and have laundry facilities with walk in closets. We spoke at length about security around the property in which the response was we have a security guard. I work for a dealership and therefore I drive many different vehicles home, all bearing different license plates. They were concerned that apparently this would confuse the security guard. Not once have I seen a security guard on the premises and I have never been questioned as to the different vehicles. We have spoken with many neighbors who were all promised the grounds are staffed with night security. To date I have spoken with several couples who are concerned with the numerous break ins, the drug deals that take place in various parking spots around the complex such as the kids basketball court. It got so bad that neighbors met with the police on site to set up a neighbor watch program due to the fact that there isn't night security. We live on the first floor and as such have our wicker furniture on our porch outside. The first couple of months living here the neighbors upstairs were letting their dogs poop and pee on the deck which ultimately ended up on our furniture. I complained to the property manager on several occasions that this was taking place only to have it persist until the end of the summer. I also complained to the office about the hole in the lawn where I twisted my ankle crossing the grass to throw out the trash. The hole was caused by a bad underground sprinkler system that was capped however the hole was left. To date I have stepped in that hole three times over the course of seventeen months and nothing has been done about repairing it. When signing our lease I asked numerous questions regarding the early termination as the clause for early termination is NOT CLEAR. I explained to the woman, (who by the way no longer works in the office, the staff change here as often as I change my underwear) that when we moved from Canada we originally sold our home and moved into an apartment. We had to sign a one year lease even though we might only be there for six to eight months. As events played out I was offered a position in the US and we broke the lease on month seven. We gave our sixty (60) day notice, we continued to live in the apartment and when the sixty day mark came, we moved out. That was it. At Stonegate I recently found out, you give your sixty day notice in writing along with the rent totaling two months which in our case is $3420.00, than if you want to live in the apartment until your move out date you must also give them the regular rent check of $1710.00 for each of the two months. Therefore the $3420.00 is the penalty for breaking the lease. The way the termination is written is WHY I ASKED SO MANY QUESTIONS REGARDING EARLY TERMINATION in the first place. The woman misrepresented what the lease was intended to convey, while its conveyance is in itself a misrepresentation. The word misrepresentation means - "A statement that is not literally false but cleverly avoids an unpleasant truth which can be liable". Meanwhile they want tenants to pay TWO (2) MONTHS RENT for something you will NEVER USE! In this economy - ARE YOU KIDDING? Be skeptical of everything that is presented to you regarding a lease contract with Stonegate Way Apartments in Middle Island NY. Things are not as they appear nor are they as how they are presented. They will tell you WHAT YOU WANT TO HEAR, not what you should know. The property manager is lazy, he spins through office staff like a turnstile at Yankee Stadium, this way there is no record of he said / she said. I would give it less than one star But..., first off the website list the apartment amenities as follows, Stainless Steel Appliances, Granite Countertop, White Bathroom Vanities w/one piece cultured marble countertop, Tri View Mirrored Medicine Cabinet, Brushed Nickel Fixtures, Decorator light switches & outlets White Bathroom Vanities w/one piece cultured marble countertop, Tri View Mirrored Medicine Cabinet, Faux Granite (Milano Quartz) kitchen countertop, Brushed Nickel fixtures, Decorator light switches & outlets, this is a lie. Some apartments do have these amenities but with a premium cost of an additional $150.00 per month. Most apartments are old and falling apart. I did complain when my toilet leaked and my bathroom vanity started to crumble but was told there were no plans for an update. The kitchen has very old white appliances not Stainless Steel and no Granite Countertops. I am starting to realize the place is also insect infested. I called about that still haven't heard anything. Another thing,$500.00 upfront and $50.00 a month. I asked what this covered and was told upkeep of the dog runs. Let me tell you about the dog runs. Dog runs??? You mean a filthy dirt pen??? Ohh that dog run. If the dog does anything in the apt. it comes out of your deposit not the $500.00 pet fee or the $50.00 extra a month. Stay away stay far away..... read more
