What a magical place!!!
I randomly read about the Stonehenge Camping & Glamping site on a blog when researching places to stay near Stonehenge/Salisbury. I was already in the midst of planning a planes, trains, and automobiles journey across southern England and this was a perfect location.
There are about 8 different glamping "pods" available for rent. We stayed at the Butterfly Pod, at the very end of the property. It was absolutely adorable! It was a 2-night minimum stay and included: two twin beds, a mini fridge/freezer, dishes, linens/bedsheets, small space heater, breakfast platter, a grill and utensils, and patio table and chairs. There are also sites available for camper/motorhomes and tents. There is a walking trail that goes straight into the nearby town, Winterborne-Stoke. Also, many festivals are hosted on site - which would be an amazing experience!!
The women's toilet facility was recently renovated and the men's is scheduled for an update in the very near future. It cost £1 for 8 minutes of hot water in one of the two shower stalls with all money donated to a local charity. Both toleit and shower stalls provide ample privacy. The facilities are cleaned daily, and I'm happy to report I did not see a single 8-legged yucky anywhere during my visit! :D
There is also a communal kitchen area where there are freezers available with ice, sinks and dishwashing tools, a microwave, toaster oven, stove top for cooking and even pots and pans! There were many informational brochures provided to assist in planning activities if you have the time, as well as books to read, and posters detailing the local flora and fauna.
The campsite is rated as a top eco-friendly lodging location. As an ecologist, I LOVED everything that was being done to promote sustainability - including extensive recycling, composting, and water treatment.
My husband and I talked extensively with the younger couple who were assisting in managing the site (forgive me, I am so bad with names.... I want to say Stacey and Ben but that most likely not even close!). They were so helpful and we actually had a lot in common :D
5 STARS!!! Highly recommend. I will definitely stay here again if my travels bring me back to the area. read more
