Hello, Let me start out by saying we absolutely this resort, the reason for our return trip. That being said, I had a nightmare of an experience with the bartender on the night of the 27th of Dec. I walked into the bar with a drink from my room, but I was purchasing a drink for my brother-in-law. This young man with his mask on his chin looked at me and with a rude voice stated, "you need to slam that drink, before you can order another one". I said in return, "I'm ordering one for my brother, not me", because honestly I never thought it was an issue drinking a drink of my own in a hotel. People do it all the time, but I understood his unprofessional response and I slammed it. He then stated, "you need to throw it away now". I said, excuse me??? I then asked him what his problem is and he needed to remember who the customer is and to please treat me with a little respect. He was so mad and this elevated so quickly, he took my credit card, went to swipe it and then turned and threw it at me and walked away. I then spoke to the supervisor and said he was going to review the cameras and also said the HR on duty was going to talk to me, which never happen. These actions are completely unexpectable and uncalled for. I'm extremely upset and am embarrassed. I had 4 other individuals who were at the bar when this happen, came and spoke to me. They said this bartender was wrong and he has been treating everyone like crap all night. Hotels and cottages (which we were staying in) are very expensive and It's wrong for some young kid to act this way and represent your business. As for our cottage, it was completely unacceptable. I have pictures of a few of the dirty and unacceptable dirt in our cottage. Attached are a few pictures when we arrived. The million dust bunnies wouldnt show up in a picture. Everyone is so worried about covid, but they don't stop and think about the dirt that shouldn't be in a rental. I'm over it. I plan to post every online website about my experience. Well...The management Especially The lady named Melinda im assuming is the Assistant manager, was rude, sassy, and just unprofessional. As well as the servers did not act like they wanted to be there, they were rude, making rude faces at us, rude remarks. we didnt have enough towels and we asked multiple times three in total for them, and they did not come bring them at all. We were told the gym was closed by an employee, as well as the pool, and the pool truthfully was closed but the gym was open and that limited our things to do, as well as no one would help us find the hiking trails. They were just plan out unwelcoming and expensive. read more

We had a fun weekend family trip here. Pros: Indoor/outdoor pool was a big hit with all of us, as well as the dock and walking paths around the lake. The lobby is beautiful and so relaxing. The kids also enjoyed the board games in the little library. You're better off going to Weston to eat, but there are some okay options onsite. Everything was well-maintained and clean. They were able to give us adjoining rooms for our family of five, which was a big help. Cons: Beds were on the firm side. Could not make a reservation at the spa, even for a weekday, 10 days ahead of time. Book it early! read more

I needed a break from life. Its winter and wanted to be in a place where there was peace and beautiful scenery. One reason why I chose this place was because of all the great photos. It showed how beautiful their location was...and how great of a place it could be. It said was 4 diamond. I have been to a ton of 5 DIAMOND AAA resorts...and this place in my opinion was not even close to being a 4 diamond resort. There is a reason they don't show a whole lot of pictures of the rooms. Why? Disgusting. Mildew up in the bathroom with no exhaust fan! The caulking was terrible in there. The carpets look old and need to be replaced. I had a lakeview room...the window needs to be bigger to actually like the lake in my opinion. The rooms were very small. The beds weren't very comfortable nor the pillows. If you want a great nights rest...like what I wanted...You won't get it here. The walls are paper thin that I could here people using the restroom, talking, etc. I feel for the price of this place a night...You need a little bit more luxury in the rooms that you are actually staying. Once I woke up the next day from my first night staying there...I was like man, I need a fresh cup of coffee. There is a coffee maker inside the room, but there isn't anything special to go with it...like creamers etc. So I went to the front thinking they might have a coffee station...and guess what they do! Its called the coffee shop! That COSTS almost the AMOUNT AT STARBUCKS. Sorry but it needs to be free for a cup of coffee. I could go to cheap hotel and get free breakfast and coffee. They are being stingy and cheap. It was 7 degrees outside...at least offer tea, coffee, and some hot cocoa. The pool, kids area, hot tub, etc...seemed ok...I just was not impressed by this place at all. There is so much else I could write, but I think I have done enough. What can I say just a little bit disappointed what does Stonewall for a little getaway celebrate my birthday play little golf have a nice dinner etc. was really disappointed in the restaurant food was OK but I thought I was overpriced and it was cold very disappointed. Just went over my invoice for what they charged me for three days I think you're just a little bit overpriced for what you but although everybody was so friendly staff so helpful so nice the golf shop people were great love playing golf great little golf course . We chose this place for our 44th honeymoon!! Pros.........excellent food, service personnel, outside ambience, lit boardwalk, well marked trails, geocaching , Great tasting coffee at the little shop. Cons........ bed , pillows, odd bed coverings. No microwave in room, thermostat lowest setting 68, Gift shop T- shirt $35????!!!!, park enhancement/resort fees?? Had our Company dinner here and the food was not worth the prices. The buffet was disgusting . My wife order off the menu and received a cheeseburger that seemed microwaved. Oh and the skating rink $25 a person to skate. Give me a break this isn't Central Park. It's West Virginia read the room. read more

My wife and her sisters booked two nights at the resort and were disappointed. They cut their stay short and checked out early. And the staff never asked why or what they could do to keep them for the full stay First, the staff was not the least bit helpful or courteous. When asking about attractions in and around the area, the staff was not informative and could not (or would not) recommend any things to do. The lady working the gift shop could not have been more rude. When the staff asked about the sporting clays, instead of calling the shooting range as most resorts would, the staff provided a number to call. Not good service. Second, the food seemed more like frozen food that wasn't prepared properly. The breakfast buffet had mini pancakes that were hard and cold. The eggs were like eating cardboard. A pitiful buffet. The chicken dinner was over spiced and again seemed like it was a frozen patty that was not properly heated. Additionally, they were not informed the main restaurant was closed for a wedding. Third, the spa was below standards for a resort. For a $125 massage it wasn't worth it. No additional spa amenities as you would expect at a resort spa, just a get in the room, undress and get under the sheet. No robe or refreshments offered. Fourth, for a weekend night, there was no entertainment. There was very little to do but drink at the bar. Definitely not a destination to recommend. read more

I have to say I expected more. The rooms a very expensive and not anything special. The staff is friendly for the most part, but uninformed. We had the buffet at Stillwater on Friday night. The staff seemed confused and complacent. We had to find someone ourselves to man the carving station The food was awful. The prime rib was so tough the they had a hard time carving it. We could hardly chew it. The rest of the proteins we severely over cooked. And unappealing. All that said. My nephews wedding was lovely and the food was wonderful. UNFORTUNATELY my card was billed for a room I didn't book. Apparently when you change the reservation they book a new room and don't cancel the other. Check your bill! read more

I stayed here with my wife and my first impression was how beautiful the surroundings were. We quickly got to our room, which was unimpressive, not much better than any other motel you would find then headed to Muskies for dinner. I am not exaggerating when I say it was the worst food I have ever eaten. The nachos were made in a microwave and the cheese wasn't even melted, yet it somehow managed to be greasy. The pizza had American cheese on it which is the most disgusting and outrageous thing I have ever seen in my 30 years of eating pizza. We then slept in our bed which was one of the lumpiest and most uncomfortable bed I've ever slept on. My back and neck are hurting as I write this (after 3 nights of this bed). The next day we did some paddle boarding/swimming and got massages that were fantastic. We then ate at the Stillwater restaurant, which my wife thought was decent, but I was unable to find anything that tasted even remotely good. The menu items look good on the menu, but are pretty disgusting when you receive them. The third day we had a great day. The golf course was absolutely fantastic (though the green fee was $90 so I would expect nothing less), then we swam, kayaked and fished the rest of the day. When dinner time rolled around I decided there was absolutely no way I was going to give this place any more of my money for their garbage food so we drove to nearby Weston,WV and found a fantastic restaurant called Thyme Bistro. I wish we had eaten all our meals there and none of them at Stonewall, and if I were to ever come back (which I won't) that's exactly what I would do. The 3rd night in this bed was unbearable, I woke up in the middle of the night cursing this place and wishing I was home in my own bed several times from back/neck pain unable to go back to sleep. To summarize- the nature and activities here are fantastic. The rooms and food at the hotel are complete and utter trash. If I ever came back here I would literally camp at the campsite across the lake and drive to Weston for all my meals. read more

To start: Would we return? Probably. But,.. wouldn't be in a hurry to rush back. It's apparent it was well-thought out in the planning stage, and designed to be a semi-luxury resort, and event center. The Arnold Palmer course is a great attraction. Spent 2 nights incl July 4th there. Very scenic, and most of the staff is very friendly and tries to accommodate your needs. That said, it is obvious (perhaps due to the location?) that they are in need of some better dept supervisors & overall management. Attention to details is lacking. 1st thing: Upon getting situated in our room for 4 people, we noticed TP on the holder was half gone and tissue box was nearly empty. NO spare on either. Ugh. (Never been to any hotel, budget priced to higher end, that didn't provide adequate supply.) Towel supply was spartan, and only 1 of the hand towel size was provided. Comforter should have been retired/ pitched, because the filling had huge clumps in spots and then flat/very empty in large areas. We tried to get by the 1st night w/ it but was so awkwardly uncomfortable we tossed it & used xtra blanket instead. Thankfully we brought our own beach towels bcuz they ran out of their complimentary pool towels. Folks were not happy as this was around noon on July 4th holiday! They obviously could not plan properly based on the occupancy for a hot day when people would expect to use the pool?! Some of the shortfalls throughout the hotel services are likely due to short staffing or inexperienced staff. Food is a mixed bag. Much of it appears to be factory prepared cafeteria service quality. Two of us had dinner at the Stillwater's patio, and service was very slow. The few people they had assigned were having a hard time handling everything. We waited a long time to order, and when they finally came w/ our food, it was only 1 of our meals, and no explanation, the runner just bolted. We awaited the 2nd entree and FLATWARE for 5+ minutes till I decided to go in search of both. At the kayak area, the attendant handed us our life jackets without speaking to us, & didnt move very far from the shelter building, didn't ask if we had any questions, didn't provide any info whatsoever w/o us prompting. We actually got tips on the different kayaks available and where to go on the lake [from some other hotel guests] returning when we were going out. All in all we had a nice time, but wasn't up to par with other places we've been. read more

When we expressed concerns, the attitude was like "well, whatever". In addition, it took forever for us to get checked-in...well after the check-in time. Stonewall Resort - Lots of deer! - Hotels Near Me - Roanoke, West Virginia

My sister and I had a great time last week at Stonewall Resort. We stayed in a 2-bedroom cabin on the lake; perfect for our needs. We brought some food with us to cook in the well-appointed kitchen. (The cabinets were showing their age, though). There are kayaks at the cabin that we might have used but the water level was too low, would have been difficult to get in and out. As it turned out, we didn't have time to kayak anyway. We did do a hike (the lakeside nature trail)...not too hard, but needs some maintenance, like a log removed. We also tried e-bikes. They were okay on the paved roads, but too heavy and cumbersome for trails. My sister fell with hers, but luckily not hurt. After our hike and bike, we thoroughly enjoyed the pool. The water was warm, but refreshing. The locker rooms were clean and easy to use. (Wish we'd known there were free lockers; would have left our pool things there while we were hiking.). Next time! The food at Stillwater's was reasonably priced with generous portions. There were healthy options, which we appreciated. Back at the cabin, we were short on toilet paper. The crew was there in 3 minutes from our call. Wow! If I could give the resort 4.5, I would...not much to change. We had a great time! read more

I went and met my daughter at Stonewall resort this past weekend and had a fabulous time. Stonewall is about halfway between Pittsburgh and where my daughter lives so we decided we would meet there and do our Christmas celebration since we did not get the opportunity to during the holidays due to CoVid. I must say, I was very impressed by the resort. It's very secluded but yet right off the highway so the drive was not bad at all. We got two rooms, which were conjoined, and she was able to bring her two dogs. We had a fabulous dinner, everything that everyone ordered was very good and after dinner we roasted marshmallows for s'more's and then went swimming. They do have an indoor/outdoor pool as well as two hot tubs one inside and one outside. The pool is heated and it's pretty wild swimming while the snow is coming down. We went to breakfast the next morning and again we had a fabulous meal. I had absolutely no complaints, other than the 2 1/2 hour drive home, and the fact that they did not have microwaves in the rooms to warm up the leftovers. I was told that they took them out due to CoVid but have them in the suite. Everything was very clean, and the staff was very friendly. We will be going back this fall. read more

I want to start with the views. They really are spectacular. The lake from every room, restaurant and balcony is perfect. The fire pit completely romantic. The restaurants all very nice. I had 2 issues. Only 2. I want to give a 4th star but there is so much room for improvement. 1. The room. Uhhhh...... it wasn't great. Not close. It seemed dirty. The sheets, itchy. The sink, clogged. I paid $300 a night to stay in a resort. 2. There isn't anything to do in the winter months. We walked the whole resort looking for anything! We tried. Even the giant checkers we're a bust because they were in a small checker table...and the library filled with discount books....purchase some West Virginia history books or books from local authors. PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE REVIEW IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE SWINDLED. If you call and specifically reserve a "lakeside" cottage directly on the water (as opposed to a "lakeview" cottage that is across the street - there's only 2 of these), Stonewall Resort will intentionally lie to you to lure you there under false pretenses. Twice, I've called and specifically requested a "lakeside" cottage directly on the water. Twice, I've been placed in one of the "lakeview" cottages not directly on the water across the street. The second time, I called Stonewall directly, explained to the person handling my reservation that I wouldn't make a reservation without a confirmation that the cottage was directly on the water, and she called the front desk while I was on the phone and the front desk confirmed that I was reserving a cottage directly on the water. I arrived the same day I made the reservation. Like the first time, I was placed in one of the "lakeview" cottages across the street. Like the first time, I spoke to the manager who gave me the exact same song and dance, i.e. there were no cottages directly on the water available, it was an innocent mistake, this never happens, next time call Stonewall directly (I did), next time call me directly and I'll take care of you (who do you think you're kidding), it doesn't really matter because you can still enjoy the restaurants and other amenities of the main lodge and resort, yada yada yada. IT DOES MATTER. A cottage is nearly $700 per night (not including taxes, resort fees, etc). I had no interest in the main lodge or the resort's other activities. I had specifically planned and packed a whole assortment of activities for my son based on Stonewall's confirmation that the cottage was directly on the water. Once I asked to cancel my reservation so I could return home, Stonewall convinced me to stay by "upgrading" my reservation to a lake house. It still was not directly on the water which defeated the whole purpose of the trip I had planned and packed for my son. It was next door to a construction zone. And if I wanted a lake house, I'd go somewhere else like Deep Creek Lake where I can rent a pontoon, park it at my own dock during my stay, and boat on a much larger lake to numerous restaurants and shops. I was looking for a different experience at Stonewall - a small cozy cottage on the water for my family to relax and play for a few days. I tried to make the best of the situation, but I called the front desk to check out the next morning once the hammering and drilling started. The front desk clerk was very nice and said she'd get the manager on duty who would just wipe my bill under the circumstances. Nope. He just gave me the exact same song and dance. Management staff certainly have their talking points down which indicates that this happens often. After a long (lawyerly) discussion, this manager eventually admitted (without meaning to, I'm sure) that Stonewall cannot guarantee a "lakeside" cottage directly on the water because it's priority is not the customer, but keeping the cottages and lake houses filled regardless of location so the private owners/investors remain paid and happy. In other words, it's a bait and switch scheme. And that's exactly what happened. He waived the 2 night minimum stay, but charged me for the night I was cajoled into staying. My "upgrade" was just Stonewall making sure that another private owner/investor got paid. Maybe someone reading this doesn't care where Stonewall puts them or is willing to roll the dice and might get lucky. But it's not just bad business. IT'S FRAUD. Needless to say, I won't make this $700+ per night mistake again. It's also a shame because I had hoped that Stonewall's cottages on the water could be a regular quick trip option for me and my family. read more

I have had a few lackluster experiences with Stonewall now. First, my grandparents and I decided to spend Christmas night at Stonewall in December. My grandmother had an issue with a reservation she made through Expedia that still has not been resolved. The hotel was evacuated due to an issue with the gas line. While I understand that situation was beyond their control, it could have been handled better. We ate dinner at Stillwaters and finished before 7:00 and returned to our room. At 9:20, we received a call from the front desk asking us to evacuate. I assumed this issue had just occurred and was surprised to pack up and arrive to an empty lobby. When I questioned where everyone else was, they said they had announced the evacuation at dinner and had begun calling rooms after that. My grandparents are elderly and handicapped and the hotel chose to wait until 9:20 to call an ADA room. My grandparents barely function past 9:00, yet now they were expected to pack up and leave. They mentioned that some hotels in a neighboring town might have rooms available, but no other information was provided as far as who would be responsible for paying for those accommodations. We chose to go home, but I was extremely frustrated they waited so late to make that decision. I questioned why the thermostat said 50 degrees when we returned to our room after dinner and they told us at checkin the pool was closed because the heater was "broken" so clearly they were aware of a gas issue. In February, I got married at one of the 4 bedrooms Lake houses. The wedding itself was lovely because we did almost everything ourselves, but the service and cleanliness of the space left much to be desired! I spent the night before my wedding cleaning a house that should have been clean upon arrived. The floors had not even been swept and one of the beds upstairs was broken. We found an old bandage and a beer bottle cap in the living room, in addition to all the dirt. The porch, where the ceremony took place, was horrible dirty and looked like it had not been cleaned since the house had been built. I asked to see the house twice before the event via email, and was ignored both times, prior to my friend calling and flat out asking them to see the house. They told us two different times we wanted to see the house that it was booked (middle of the week in the off season). When we arrived for our mid-week off-season wedding, there did not appear to be another person at any of the lake houses so I am questioning if that was even true. The prices provided when I first inquired about catering changed once I received the formal quote three weeks before the wedding. A formal quote should have been provided when I inquired or the service charges/fees should have at least been made known. Everything they acted as though it would be no big deal to provide suddenly had a cost/service charge associated with it. My husband and I stayed at the lodge for two nights after the wedding. When I booked the room, I was provided with a total cost via email of $223.76. I called to ask something the week before my stay, after making the reservations months prior, and was told I did not have a reservation. I panicked until the person finally found my reservation under a last name spelled incorrectly. They made that correction and I checked in without issue after a long wait because only one desk was open since the other person standing there told me she was leaving and I would just have to wait for the other lady to check in the people in front of me. When I went to checkout, they told me my room was over $250. When I questioned it, they acted as though I was wrong. I showed them the confirmation email and they said they would have to do some research. Someone went in a back room and eventually came back out and said the system had sent me incorrect information regarding the room rate. I told her I expected the rate to be honored and they acted as though they would honor it that one time, but if it happened again I should just know the price provided at reservation would not be correct, which in my opinion is completely unprofessional and not at all transparent from a billing perspective. Overall, I would not recommend this establishment for even a simple weekend away and personally would not even consider hosting an event there again. read more

This place is beautiful. Our room overlooked the lake and there are plenty of other views to take in. Walking trails abound and the price of recreational things like bikes or kayaks is very minimal. We loved this place and will be back. read more

I averaged my review 3 stars based on two aspects. I gave the staff, grounds, trails and other activities a solid 5 stars. The staff are very accommodating especially given the current COVID conditions. Our favorite was the variety of hiking trails the resort. The various rental equipment for lake activities and the outdoor setting are also strong points of our stay. However, the restaurant and the condition of our room is a solid 3 stars. We were very dissatisfied with the one and only meal we had at the onsite restaurant. See my review of the restaurant for more details. While the lodge seems updated and charming, our room needed some updating and lacked any charm. It feels like a motel 6 once you arrive to your room. Go offsite to eat and don't expect much for your room. Those are my recommendations for a great stay at stonewall. read more

Downhill!! Our friends asked us to go to Nemacolin Woodlands for a short getaway before our kids go back to school but unfortunately i convinced them to go to Stonewall instead. Based on my previous history with the resort i thought it was almost as nice but a little less on the pocket book and with the lake we could have a rent a boat and take the kids out. I called to reserve a boat weeks before but was told they are not busy on Wednesday and that a reservation wasn't necessary. I should have questioned this a bit further. Of course after promising the kids fishing and a ride on the boat when we got to the marina on our last day, all the boats were reserved and we were shut out. We had ordered food for a picnic lunch and since we couldn't get on the boat all the food was ruined by the time we could eat it. I asked for the person in charge that day and i spoke to April at the front desk. She seemed concerned and said that i would have a discount applied to my room rate due to the problems. When i checked out no discount had been applied. $1,500 dollars later i had two disappointed kids and friends that wished they did not listen to us. We also spend $400 at the golf shop on golf, clothing etc. The course used to be a favorite but it was in terrible condition. No joke, we actually saw maintenance people weed whacking the middle of the "fairway". Really sad to see the course in that kind of condition. read more

Stayed for 2 nights and asked for third but nothing available. Would bet that resort not fully booked. (Tuesday). Front desk was not friendly or helpful at checkin or when asked to extend stay. Nothing in room with outline of grounds or activities. Tv is little off but works unless you try to change channels with remote channel change buttons. Oh, spa not open during our visit. Id like to give them a better review because the property is spectacular. But where to begin... They advertise "lake view" rooms. But the small box windows look out to huge trees with only slight views of the lake. The restaurants have good food but are insanely slow. I recommend you read my review on Stillwaters. The pool is lame for such an amazing area. Its nice that its indoor/outdoor, but its just not a great pool. I have been to Motel 6s with nicer pool areas. The prices for drinks are high, but fairly reasonable for a resort. And the bartenders pour them heavy, which is a plus. The activities prices are great. 15 bucks a person for unlimited rentals on their kayaks and bikes and such. We didn't get to walk the trails because of all the rain early on, but the area is simply magestic, so I am sure they are great. We rented a boat from the marina which was reasonably priced and was the highlight of the trip. It was just an OK experience... Its really just a matter of getting their stuff together and making decisions with guest satisfaction in mind and this place could be a gem. read more

Meh. For the money, not worth it. When checking out the lady asked me, "how was your stay" and I said "extremely mediocre" and she goes "Ooooh" and that was the end of it. We wanted to take pictures of the Christmas decorations but they ripped them down early in the morning before we even left our room on Dec 26. And spare yourself from the expensive buffet if you know what good food actually tastes like. It was a dreary, tasteless, costly Christmas mistake. read more

We visited for Black Friday weekend 2019. The lodge is decorated so beautifully for the holidays. Truly the lobby is just a gorgeous place to snag so many family Christmas pictures. The yclearly work very hard to make it look so lovely. Check in was easy. We booked cabin 6 for the weekend in conjunction with polar express tickets. The lodge is an hour from the polar express but a wonderful place to spend the weekend. The cabins are definitely in need of a refresh and hence the loss of a star. There are just no if ands or buts about it. The floors are very scratched (because they do allow dogs) and the rooms all could use a fresh coat of paint. The cabin was spotless though and very lovely. The kitchen was nicely appointed and we were able to cook most of our meals here. They provided nearly all the utensils we could have asked for and what we didn't find we made do with something else. Being able to cook saved a great deal of money and our group was able to spend some quality time together. The views from the cabins are gorgeous, even on a grey dreary day, looking at the lake is so pretty. The pitches are very nice. They do provide a shuttle service from the cabins to the lodge, just call and ask. There are tons of walking and hiking trails. You can rent bikes, there are several play grounds for kids, plus an indoor craft and play center, swimming pool, pool table in the library, and so many activities. For the holiday weekend they were showing movies at the lodge, face painting and balloon animals in the lobby, elf tuck ins, themed meals (brunch with Santa), spa open house (my mom won one of the drawings!!), and live music in TJ muskies. Plus their light up night with singalong and treats! The people in the spa were so friendly and helpful. Thanks to Lora for assisting us with a gift card purchase. "Holly" our tuck in elf was so sweet and totally on it when asked some tough questions by our kiddos. Thank you so much for the lovely surprise! In the restaurant, Dale was wonderful to our large party for brunch. We really appreciated his hard work. Daniel was awesome helping me book a brunch reservation and elf tuck ins. Angela in the bar makes a great Bloody Mary and was super helpful whenever we needed help. Sam in the bar was fantastic and helped with a to go pick me up!! Honestly everyone we encountered was so nice, the resort was spotless. The food in the restaurants was very good. For brunch we had the buffet, the buffalo chicken wrap, and the burger. We all really enjoyed our meals! The pool was fantastic for our kids and the young man was really helpful in finding us goggles and toys for the kids (I've forgotten his name I'm so sorry). Absolutely love this resort and the great folks that work here. From the manager Bill to Shalisa and Ryan at the kayak rentals, our server Nicole, and a really nice security guard that brought us up fresh towels. There are so many outdoor things to do! Biking, paddle boards, bikes, kayaks, boat rentals, hiking, and my massage was the best I can remember. My only ask is that the other guests were more respectful to the people working here. COVID has been hard on everyone, and rules are necessary. Thanks Stonehill for a great and much needed vacation! read more

Our stay was ok. I'm thinking because of COVID, not all of the restaurants were open so we only had one choice for 3 days. Breakfast only had 5 choices and all were $12+. There are no other places nearby so you are stuck eating there. The speedboat you could rent, and apparently they only have one, was broken so that wasn't an option. Overall, not worth the 4 hour drive for us. read more

This is a 3 because it's in a beautiful place and half the staff is very nice and hard working. But it's closer to a 1 in overall experience. Here on a "Romance Package" but you can't get up late because breakfast seems like rushed leftovers and the won't clean rooms after 11 am. At dinner we had great service one night, awful, rude service the next. And whether salmon, pork, or prime rib, every meat was badly overcooked and dried out. The buffet managed to run out of clean plates on Saturday night. It was an absolute battle getting the promised champagne package delivered to the room, and the pool was filled with loud kids - ok, but it was Valentines Weekend. This place is terrible. It looks beautiful from the pictures but let me share with you why: pool is piss warm, bartender is rude, the $230 kind bed room has no mattress cover, you don't get body wash, the towels are so rough you could sand wood with them, the water pressure in the shower, well, there isn't any. The food at the bar and grill is absolutely disgusting. Came out cold and I am not sure how you mess up pizza, but this place does. If this would have cost us $100 I would be ok with the quality of this place, but to spend $230 just to sleep here on a Sunday night?? read more

We have stayed at the Stonewall resort a couple times and honestly you hear resort and you think piece relaxation and clean rooms beautiful atmosphere! Well our experience there was a dirty room where you could smell dust and see the dust and a fridge that didn't work and towels that one had something one it that I am wondering what that was but not clean and the beds well let's just say our backs all hurt in the morning absolutely terrible beds! But the staff was very nice and they did help when asked right away and I just think they need some updates on those rooms and beds and maybe take a little more time on the cleaning aspec! Plus we found a finger nail on the night stand plus we also asked for a junior suit with a lakeside view and they gave us a normal room which was not ok cause we were looking forward to a really nice room which we did not get was not happy!!! read more

The resort was gorgeous-well maintained and very clean. The food was great and prices were reasonable. The activities were reasonably priced and there was a wide variety of things to do. We arrived in a Saturday and it was totally booked with weddings, reunions, and other events. One of the 3 restaurants was closed for an event. The pool had at least twice the limit of bathers. There were no chairs or chaises available and 8 umbrellas for well over 100 people. You literally could not use the pool or hot tubs. We could find no table for dinner and finally gave up and ate at the bar. So disappointed we considered leaving early. The next day the crowds were gone and it was very nice and relaxing. So AVOID Saturdays in the summer! We would give this 5 stars if we had arrived on Sunday. read more

The Stonewall Resort is an all inclusive resort that is excellent for either the family or an intimate getaway for two. Spend the day on the lake or hiking in the hills of WV, or just spend a relaxing day sitting outside enjoying the sounds of nature. This is a great place for conferences because it has multiple large or small rooms but also three restaurants that can either accommodate the bar setting, sit down restaurant, or elegant dining with a reservation over looking the lake. The resort also has an amazing golf course. Excellent location in the hills of WV. Love it!! read more

Nice resort, we had a family reunion and the outdoor activities were great. But the resort loses a star for being named after a Confederate General. I know he was born locally, but West Virginia was with the Union during the Civil War!? He was a local boy that went bad. The name makes staying there feel a bit awkward, renaming time West Virgina! read more

The last I visited here was in 2011 and things have really improved. Their amenities are more reflectant of the price, the dinner food has found their niche and is very fresh and delicious, and I would be honored for this place to represent WV. My favorite thing about this resort is that kayaking, canoing, paddle boats, bikes and fishing lines are all able to be checked out for no extra fee to those staying at the resort. The breakfast is horrible and greasy, though. I'd advise traveling to Weston to McDonald's to get a less greasy breakfast. (that's a sentence I never thought I would say). read more

It's a beautiful resort, but they have just "ok" food, which sometimes takes a long time to receive. For example, an order of just fries took 30 minutes to receive. Be prepared as some staff are absolutely wonderful and some are rude. For example I paid my $10 check with a $20.
