Clean and well kept rooms. Excellent view of West Virginian mountains. Family oriented and they have a breakfast.

Very large and well maintained hotel with a large conference center. I've past this place plenty of times but this is the first time I've had the opportunity to stop. Situated on top of a hill overlook the Flatwoods exit and easy to access from the Interstate. Being that Flatwoods is the geographical center of WV this should be on any organizations short list for conference sites. View is absolutely beautiful. Glad to see a site that's so well maintained inside and out!

My view at breakfast. The hotel sits on a high ridge, far from the highway.

It was 2am when I called the hotel, hoping that they might still have rooms available. 2am is a strange time to try to book online, as it is too late (in an early sort of way) to secure a room for an immediate stay. Go ahead, try to book a room from a mobile app at 2am. Then have fun waiting 12 hours before they will let you check in. So I called, instead. My question was answered with, "Oh yes, come on over, we have plenty of space!" Ok, so now it's 2am, I'm in West Virginia, and I'm driving toward a hotel with plenty of space. I had 20 miles of worry that I was driving into an unpleasant situation. When I pulled off of the highway and didn't see the hotel right away...the panic increased. Then GPS directed me around a bend (and a car dealership) up a steep hill, and into the half filled parking lot of a huge hotel. Whew! They had plenty of space because they had plenty of space. My mood improved immediately. The woman at the desk helped check me in, offered me a cookie, and made sure I knew about breakfast in the morning. Our room was clean and had everything we needed. Sleep was easy in a cozy bed, and I dreamed of the hot breakfast to come. The hotel sits across the highway from a Fiestaware outlet store. I'd noticed the display in the lobby, but it didn't really hit me until morning when I walked into the nicest looking breakfast buffet I've seen in a hotel of this class. Fiestaware dishes stacked high, just where you need them for your waffles, eggs, potatoes, sausage, and fresh fruit. The coffee in the lobby was not good, but the coffee inside the restaurant was much better, and it was all set off so nicely by the view. By building the hotel high on a hill, it was above the highway and the car dealer. The view looks out over the rolling mountains of West Virginia, and I'll bet it looks fantastic as the leaves change. I wish I'd had time to step outside on the patio. It held a collection of chairs for people to sit and admire the view. If I'm ever in this spot again I'll book a room and work on an earlier (or is that later?) arrival time so that I can explore a bit more of what this hotel has to offer.

    Nice big bed.

I'm giving an educational keynote in WV. I love WV, it's has some of the most stunning natural beauty that you can find. But. When they booked my hotel in the middle of no where and it said on my itinerary that it was a Days Inn, I got nervous. Norman Bates and all that stuff... Was I ever shocked at what I actually found. Huge comfy bed that smelled freshly washed with tons of marshmallow pillows ( I have a thing for pillows). Nice furniture, not worn. Great mountain views, beautiful patios with lovely deck furniture, clean swimming pools and an above average dining option off the lobby. My room has two sink areas, the air conditioning works and didn't make me feel like I was breathing mold...never a good thing. The staff was friendly and breakfast was free. REAL eggs and sausage. An outlet shopping place across the road, some fast food options as well as a limited number of local eateries. Nothing to brag about. So, I live to see another day. No Norman Bates here.

When I called the morning of my stay I was rudely told no. At checkin the desk clerk ran my credit card multible times, which basically tied up all my existing credit for the duration of my stay. When I pointed out to her that it was an error on her part, she told me if I was unhappy I could go elsewhere. I would have gladly done so if she had not just tied up the bulk of my resources. My room was at the end of a hallway with most of the lights not working and most of the ceiling tiles gone. I opened the curtains to find the outer pane of glass broken and discolored water standing in what was left. The cover to the AC unit was loosely hanging and in need of repair. The mini fridge was sitting atop the desk area and unplugged. Again, I would have chose to leave had her error not tied up all of my existing credit. Every interaction with her or if she was present was increasingly rude and spiteful. Easily one of my worst experiences ever.

Those concerns were completely unwarranted because we ended up having an absolutely lovely time. I wanted to pick a place that was somewhere between Weston and Fayetteville and Sutton was a very good happy medium. I didn't know how small the town would be and that was a little bit of a surprise but I like that kind of shit, that is why I travel to different places, after all, even if they are different from what I am used to (I roll my eyes at myself). The town, like I said, is very small. There is a big foot museum there that we intended to visit but then forgot. There was a restaurant within walking distance THANK GOODNESS that was very good (Braxton Bistro). There is a convenience store within a few minute's drive. We arrived at around 6pm and there was a man there to greet us, contrary to some of the other reviews I read. He provided the key and escorted us to our accommodations. I chose the "glamping" because I don't love staying in a house and because I figured "when in West Virginia.." And wanted to get a taste of nature...on my own terms. Despite it being "glamping" it was very comfortable. 1/3 of the "tent" was transparent so you could look out on the back yard, trees, and a river running through. It was very cool. The bed was comfortable. The AC worked GREAT. Almost too well. The shower was actually very solid as well, no issues there. There was even a TV in the room which was very much appreciated given it was the first night of the NFL draft during our stay. No issues with noise, other than birds chirping and other "camping" sounds. Everything was clean. Our room even included a mini fridge, I think a microwave if memory serves, and a coffee machine. Our stay in the glamping tent definitely exceeded expectations and was a great experience.

Also my toilet had poop stains and the coffee pot still had coffee in it so i guess no housekeeping- I do not recommend this place again unless they step up their game

Pictures and other reviews looked decent, but since I'm apparently naive, we booked a stay here. The check-in person was fine. She made it relatively easy for us to check in and enter the room. It's definitely dated and could use some repair work The bathroom had a toilet seat that wasn't connected to the toilet, so it shifted around a good bit. The toilet seat itself has the kind of wear and tear I'd expect to see in an archeological dig as it had some discoloration and some spots that appeared melted. The bathroom had a riddle as there were two light switches. One worked the light and the other worked the exhaust fan. Sometimes the fan would work independently, but at other times the fan wouldn't work unless the light was. You had to sort out the right combination to make one, the other, or both work. The exhaust fan sounded like it runs on diesel and it sent me a wave of nostalgia as it reminded me of family vacations when my dad would pick the cheapest spot he could find. The room appeared clean, so I consider that a win. The bed was cheap, but we both slept just fine on it. The room was very stuffy when we got in, and as I put a finger on the AC panel, the panel fell off. The good news is that the AC worked. This isn't the worst hotel I've ever been to, but it's definitely not the best.
