Welcome to the shut up & pay your rent community. Management make their own rules & regulations,Especially (Steve Davis). That is considered illegal in Ma.By having there unprofessional security quards follow/stalk the residents.Harrass your visitors/guest when they visit at the front main gate.Security use devices at your door to detect noise levels.They dont know the difference between noise & a dog bark.Mind you using devices or having security at your front door unannounced listening to your household is concerning & creepy. It's hard to see this place as home. I grew up here since 1995, I've seen it go from a homey village to an authoritarian encampment. They recent sent out a letter stating residents aren't allowed to have decorations.... Imagine that? Who does that hurt? Who is offended by decorations? You're not allowed to have personality and tailor your space to make it your own. It's insane the time they spend to make these ridiculous policies. I wrote a review in 2016 .since then I moved out and got into a beautiful luxury apartment through the Boston planning committee. I got it through the lottery. I have my own assign parking space. I have a beautiful spacious apartment. I think it work out for me leaving those apartments. I had to break the lease to get out of that mice infested.apartment. I have a wash/dryer in my new apartment and a dishwasher. I hated dealing with the management staff at Stony Brook especially Carmen. She is such an awful human being who needs to go to customer service class. I think they need renovate all those apartments. I think way they had mice is because they did not have good foundation. One of the worst Communities I have ever lived in. I should have known the day I went to go just look at an apartment and the whole apartment smelled like B.O, and there was an empty condom wrapper in the toilet in the Bathroom, Disgustinggggg!!!!! & it was never cleaned out on the actually move in date, I had to wait for the cleaning people clean up the house, while i have the tow truck in front of my house before moving my stuff in.. Also, everything is old & fell apart as soon as I moved in, the bathroom towel rack and tissue paper holder both popped off the wall within a month. There were numerous break ins & criminal activity all around Stony brook all last year & I actually was a victim of one of the break ins, I got my car broken into, I felt VIOLATED, given that this is a "Gated Community" which is bs because anyone can walk into the community on foot, I also seen a couple of homeless people from the plaza make their way into the community through the back entrance... The Security harasses TENANTS who keep to themselves, & allow people who cause disturbances to roam free. They are constantly annoying me, there is one particular security who kept trying to approach me with BS, & following me to the trash one time just to sit in the car behind me trying to intimidate me and tell me I couldnt park in front of the garbage disposal..... If I am not doing anything wrong, I do not want Security approaching me, there's better things for them to do. & the final straw is the way they treat guests... The security NEVER greets the guests, they need to be trained on customer service and maybe things would be better in this community. JUST GIVE THE GUESTS WHAT THEY ASK FOR AND ALLOW THEM TO KEEP IT MOVING. I would never recommend anyone to live here if you want peace and a feeling of safety go somewhere else. Very bias toward low-income people and section 8 applicants!! ILL BE THE VOICE FOR ME AND ALL THE OTHERS WHO DOES NOT HAVE A VOICE!! Funny thing, I work somewhere that helps people who are discriminated against , but for work related matters.. (YES THIS SECTION 8 VOUCHER HOLDER HERE DOES) This place is very biased because they have this certain idea about voucher holders, their mind is already made up. It doesn't matter if you have descent credit, go to school, work full time, or have great rental history! They do not care and will not give you a chance! They say they accept section 8 so that way they don't look like they're discriminating and to avoid lawsuits. But they really do not accept section 8 and they are very smart and condescending about how they handle it. They purposely list all of their apartments at a price that's way higher than the section 8 payment standard so that you won't apply or qualify, and they ask for crazy ridiculous requirements in order for you to live in their New beautiful rodent free mansion. Most places will negotiate a price with you if it's not exaggerating, but not this place because they know section 8 won't pay what they're asking and therefore you have to keep it moving and look elsewhere! That's where they get you! When I went in I had my $500 money order ready the same day the guy asked me to bring it in and all my papers and proof of income etc..it was freezing out had my baby with me came for no reason. Just for the guy to tell me "WE DONT negotiate prices here" with a snarky look "THE LANDLORD HERE DOES NOT NEGOTIATE with people no matter what because I have BEEN Here FOR 3 years and seen this ! This is my first yelp review ever, just to warn other people not to live here. I thought the people hated this apartment just had a problem with management, but this apartment is the worst apartment I have ever lived in. The walls and ceiling are thin enough and the ventilation is connected so I can hear my upstairs neighbors' small child running and screaming from 6am-10pm and I hear and smell my next door neighbor's parties and indoor smoking of various substances well into the night. Living in this apartment has been like a torture experiment in sleep deprivation and the management does nothing but tell me to call the "security". All I want is a place to sleep in quiet and without secondhand smoke. If you also want that, don't move here. read more

This is the worst apartment complex in the city. Walls are paper thin. Management is the Gestapo. Overpriced!!! Parking here is a joke! There are no assigned spaces and all of your visitors will be towed! I have parked here to visit my mother multiple times with a permit and I've been towed. Management will brush you off with every concern or complaint you have. Snow removal is great. Just don't plan on getting any sleep through the storm with all the noisey trucks outside. I moved in less than a week ago. My roommate and I have been in and out quite a bit parking our personal cars and uhauls overnight. We've received a variety of parking passes for street parking, sometimes no passes. It didn't seem to be much of an issue as each time we were waved through. That is until they towed my car. I also made the point to mention my name and that I was moving into X unit when passing through. Between my complaint and all the others I just read here I will be happy when my lease expires which is regrettably 15 months. A horrible start and poor handling by the security supervisor. It wasn't conveyed that while I didn't have a windowed permit yet since I was moving in street parking with a temporary pass was fine. read more

The rent is high for no reason, parking is ridiculous and security suck at their job.

I recently got the cops called on and my car rolled because the stony brook commons staff decided to make the parking spot that my car has parked for over 2 weeks a handicap spot. The security guards jazmine and olashi Alexis were both extremely unreasonable because they failed to provide records when that "handicap" spot was established. Both Secuirty stated "because come in at 3pm they would no knowledge of handicap parking spot change because the office was closed." They also informed me that a resident continue to call them saying to toll my car because she wants my spot. The toll truck arrived and held my car hostage until I payed him. The resident who was complaining then proceeds to call the cops on me because I decided not to have any more conversations with her. While the cops are on their way she proceeds to create a false narrative in where I got into her face and threatened her. The security guard olashi Alexis then proceeds to argue with her taking her side. The cops arrive and she begins her manipulation act and the cops did not believe her story. The cops then call me downstairs and I tell her how she's been manipulating everyone to believe I threaten her. The police then leave because they notice that this was a waste of time. However, the next morning I see three huge scratches on my 2018 Honda HRV which was a brand new car. We obviously know who the culprit is #34A. I call the head of security which confirmed that the handicap sign was in fact moved while my car was parked in a spot. He then proceeds today we dropped the ball in this situation. I am honestly disgusted with this residence. I do not recommend any young professionals live here. The rent is about 2k for a one bedroom and the apartments are falling apart. Toilets don't flush and closets don't close. I can assure you that a young person will not enjoy living here! I wish I could have given this place no stars. They haven't compensated me for anything! read more

DO NOT BE FOOLED !!!! At $1600 a month for a Studio Apartment (and rent goes up $200 EVERY LEASE RENEWAL)you would think you'd be living in the luxury... WRONG ! -The cabinets are old and decrepit. -The windows do not stay closed or locked. -You DO NOT get free heat - The burner that heats the apartment is rigged. For the entire winter my heater would not heat past 64 degrees and blew out cold air. -You aren't allowed to have plants, grills, or anything else normal people have on their porches. If you do, YOU WILL BE FINED. -At one point I was locked out, and it took maintenance an hour to even call me back, and another 30 minutes to unlock my apartment. Thinking back, I could've just climbed through my windows that don't lock. -My car has been towed for idling in front of my own apartment. Mind you, this is a "gated" community. Not street parking. Overall - there are a ton of 1BR apartments (not studio's) closer to the city for the same price. So if you want convenience that matches its price - DO NOT MOVE HERE. NOT WORTH IT!!!! It's a clean apartment community from outside and even inside. Moving in was easy for us. The office workers are nice, friendly and helpful. The maintenance is great and absolutely in time. We had some issues with the heating and the washer. They came over in less than one day and after trying to fix it we got a new one. Always friendly and willing to help. They decorated the community seasonal with beautiful flowers and more. We never saw trash or damaged stuff outside. The neighbors were nice, quiet and uncomplicated. We felt safe and good. We never had problems with parking. I can't give 5 stars because of the heating system. This is so annoying. Very loud and windy. The temperature was never constantly. The heating worked till it reached the temperature you wanted but than it stopped and it's going to be cold in 5 minutes. And the winter here is hard and the insulation is not good. Before we wanted to make a phone call we turned the heating off because it was so loud. We couldn't regulate it in the different rooms. So we always had the choice of being in a sauna or in a fridge. This was the only thing we didn't like but it's a big deal if you want to feel comfortable. read more

Hi, I always have trouble finding parking. Because street parking is all handicap parking. And most of those handicap people have back entrance and I don't. They should turn the back lot into some handicap parking instead of taking all street parking. I really that is stupid. Not all of us having back entrance.
