Furthermore, the first-floor tenant smokes cigarettes every day, and the smell spreads out into the elevator, causing discomfort.

A loooong overdue review…read more Walnut Park was home for 9 years. I rented a 1 bedroom apartment there in 2003 and stayed until 2012. I only left to move closer to my aging parents. My rent during that time only went up a total of $100. The buildings and grounds were well maintained. Snow removal was quick and painless. There are a ton of trees there, and it cuts down on the 'apartment complex' feel of the place. Loads of parking. The owners (Poorvu Construction) were easy to deal with. They were good about posting notices keeping us up to date with goings-on, and giving enough notice when they (rarely) needed to enter the apartment. I don't think a day went by that I didn't see their staff in and around the complex. The apartment itself was huge. Really nice recessed balcony with room for a table and chairs. I loved having my coffee out there! Lots of closets and cabinets (the bedroom closet had shelves and dividers eliminating my need for a bureau) with an additional 5'x5'x5' storage space in the basement. Appliances were all new when I moved in, as was the carpet. The heating system and wall-mounted AC worked well. Too glowing a review? Okay, here's a complaint; they don't allow cats.

Bonus: Ames Shovel Works Apartments is also a great place to live if you think mounds and mounds of dog shit and gutter trash are the height of landscape design. There were just a few issues that I encountered there. Parking could be an issue if there was a function in the main building. You'd be able to get a space , during these functions , but not likely to be near your apartment. Fortunately, this didn't happen very often. The other issue was the air conditioning in my apartment was not optimal. It never really worked properly, despite attempts to fix it. They finally gave me a portable unit for my bedroom. Overall, it was the first time I had ever rented an apartment and overall, it was a wonderful experience. The grounds are beautiful and the area was quiet and peaceful.
