I saw one of the Doctors at Stony Brook Orthopedic Associates to have a knee replacement and he referred me to his personal assistant to make an appointment for the surgery. I called her and she told me to call back with the date that I wanted to have the surgery on in March, 2023. I called her back, left a message with the date that was good for me; no return phone call. I called her again and left another message with the date that I wanted to have the surgery on; no return phone call. I called her a third time to confirm a good date for the surgery and once again, no return phone call. I will not call again. I will find another good Doctor in Suffolk County. I know they don't need my business but what a way to run a reputable Doctor's office. I am very disappointed! I believe that the people you hire working directly with you represent you. Wow! My husband had an accident and was rushed to Stony Brook Hospital. While in Stony Brook he was advised that he needed to be seen by a Orthopedic Doctor for his hand. I called several Orthopedic Doctors and could not believe how rude and non helpful their staff members were to a potential patient. They would not even return my calls as promised. So I contacted Stony Brook Hospital once again and they gave me the number to Stony Brook Orthopedics. Doreen was amazing. She actually took the time to listen and realized how concerned I was for my husbands care. Doreen even called me back as promised and had all the answers to my concerns. Just saw Dr. Mulrod here and I must say that he was rude and incompetent. He should retire completely and do it immediately. He has retired from surgery already thank God. Had to argue with him to drain my knee which they finally took a lot of blood from finally. Had to argue with him for a knee immobilizer which they finally did after he admitted I should be in one but only after I argued with him about that too. He was rude and completely unprofessional, dismissed anything I told him. This is the second time I saw him and the second time he was like this. When asked if i should bend my knee he said "no" but yet wasnt going to prescride an immobilizer. What medical school teaches that? Any doctor I have seen in the last 10 years would drain my knee, put me in an immobilizer and give me crutches. If anyone is thinking of going to him please re consider. He is awful. The office people are great and the other Doctors there are good but he is not. Treated me like I was a piece of crap. Should not have to argue to be treated the right way by a Doctor. Lastly, I said to him if I didnt need my knee drained or the brace then you wouldnt have done it after I argued with you....but should a patient really have to tell a doctor to do his job? This guy needs to retire. Sad. read more

After waiting 3 weeks to get in with a doctor recommended to me and having to take off of work d/t limiting scheduling options to begin with..my appointment was cancelled week of. After waiting on hold for literally 27 minutes to re-schedule I was given a rude receptionist that told me the first availability was not for another 2 weeks where I would need to again take a day from work. When I asked if it were common practice to have such long hold waits I given a snotty response and told to go ahead and see another doctor somewhere. The doctor may be good but the office staff and inner workings are NOT worth it because that's who you deal with the most! Good riddance! read more
