Stonyridge was a pure laid-back vibe that I adored. The resident winery dog, Apple, stole my heart! We played fetch while sipping some of the best Sauvignon Blanc I've ever had. If you're an animal lover and wine enthusiast, this spot is a must-visit. Oh and I got the shoe string fries.m which were 10/10.
Beautiful vineyard that should be on your list. The grounds are beautiful with ivy and hydrangeas and cute back patio for drinks.
It's a fantastic vineyard to relax with a nicely made glass of wine and take in the rolling hills view. Service was helpful and friendly. I tried the premium flight so that we could try their signature claim to fame wine and it was really nice! Definitely try the Larose.
This place is amazing on the weekends they have live DJ it was super packed when we went on Saturday but we were still able to snack a table. There's also super cute picnic tables under the shaded trees, which on a hot day make for a really good option. Great flight options and super tasty food. We had a cheese plate, a chicken dish, which was delicious and a fish pate which was amazing incredible vibes highly recommend it.
Beautiful vineyard. Wonderful tasting wine. Very reasonable prices! This was our first stop from the Fuller Taste of Waiheke Tour. We were greeted as we exited the bus with a delicious sauvignon blanc (my personal favorite type of wine). Then we toured around the vineyard, sampled some more wine and ended with a yummy quiche for lunch. Wish we could have stayed longer.
Fun vineyard. A nice patio for dining and wine flights. A loungey and fun patio for drinks and just hanging out. There are beautiful rolling hills of grapes and palm trees that give it an island vibe. We had some wine flights, I had a salmon and my friend had some portabello mushroom dish. Food wasn't bad, wines were better. Day and company were all good.
Stonyridge Vineyard was the best wine tasting experience I had in New Zealand! The property is gorgeous, perched on top of a hill with gorgeous views! The wine tasting experience was very pleasant with a great hostess who was very knowledgeable about the wines and property. The winery goes the extra mile to make sure you have a great experience. The wines were also very tasty, with the wine tasting being explained glass by glass and asking feedback from each wine drinker. The host stays with your group the entire wine experience. Prices are very reasonable and bottles of wine also are very reasonable. I highly recommend visiting this property on a nice warm day while sipping a chilled white wine as you over look the vineyards and hills. Large groups can be accommodated with reservations. Small groups (mine had 4) can walk in without reservations.
The historic vineyard that started wine-making in New Zealand should be your first stop on your Waiheke Island wine adventuring. Not only is it the charter vineyard, it is also the mountain that this magical place is named after. Stonyridge Mountain is responsible for the warmer climate on the island that enables the grapes to thrive. Drinks and lunch here will make for the perfect island day!
Loved this winery! Such beautiful views of the mountains and you can even see helicopters taking off. We did the wine tasting and took a nap on the lawn under the trees. They provide blankets and tables for you on the grass. We rented our car from Waiheke Motors and picked it up right at the ferry terminal. I'd recommend doing this over the tour buses and public buses because you are in control of your own time schedule. Also it is way better than biking because you will be covered in dust and it was so hot walking around in the summer time. Only regret was not staying on the island in a hotel for 2 days. We had to cram in 6 wineries into one day - they were all great! If you only have one day then try to hop on the 8am ferry from Auckland because the ferry lines get packed after 9am. "Looking forward to visiting this vineyard " was an understatement. I was truly taken back with the breathtaking views and astonishing friendly atmosphere from the patio deck overlooking the vineyard!! The staff was quite helpful. Arrived before the kitchen was closing so ordered an appetizer which was remarkable and filling! There were two wine tasting to choose from premium and non. Paying for tasting on Waiheke Island seems to be the norm $28 seemed a little pricey even if you're trying Larose which is about $135 bottle if you're a member of the wine club or mid $200-$600 otherwise. What did make it special was to know the owner was among the guest as if he's was hosting an intimate event! We had a friendly conversation and took lovely pictures before exchanging information as we will be returning!! Lovely time spent there! Would recommend to all!
On my last few hours on Waiheke island, one of the folks I met at the hostel invited me to come to the vineyard for a tasting. I have heard about Stonyridge from a few folks, so I decided to go and I was not disappointed. From the ferry terminal, it's a quick 35 minute bus ride to the entrance of the vineyard. After a short walk up to the entrance, you are greeted by a peaceful setting. You can decide to have the tasting at their bar area or outside overlooking the Stony Ridge and the valleys below. I can only imagine how crowded it must be here in the summer months. I would highly recommend the outside area. The current $10 tasting consists of one white and two reds. They mostly grow the red grapes at the estate at relatively small volumes. The sauvignon blanc grapes are grown at even smaller volumes. You will get a nice presentation from your servers. But the main attraction here is the La Rose. It's a blend that beat the big Bordeaux wines of France in a blind competition. At $18 for a tasting pour, this is not your ordinary tasting. Yes, it is very delicious and wonderfully complex. Not sure if my palate is refined enough to taste the subtle differences, but it's very enjoyable if you're into the classic Bordeaux style. Maybe if I bought a bottle at $600? Yeah, I just couldn't justify it. That's a plane ticket!
Stonyridge gets 5-stars for the view alone from their patio seating. I never wanted to leave. We mindlessly hopped onto a bus and the driver asked where we were headed when he reached the end of his route...we just said any vineyard. He was so kind to drive us to the closest one which happened to be Wild Waiheke but it was closed so we went to its' neighbor, Stonyridge Vineyard. Thank goodness we did!!! To start, the three of us ordered two samplers to share which ranged from $7-25. We decided to go with a bottle of Faithful. It was the most inexpensive at $29/btl but it was also our favourite. We ended up ordering two bottles. Yes this place has stunning vistas to keep you enjoying your wine BUT there is little else I'm afraid. The wine was okay (of course, it is purely about individual taste and I realize that) so I am grading on everything else. First we arrived and wanted to do a tasting. When we finally made it to the bar, we were told that one of the ones I had wanted to try (a Syrah) was not available for tasting, ONLY for purchase by the glass. Okay, I chose some others. The Pilgrim ($23 a glass) was very good and should have been, for what they were asking. The Airfield however was NOT to my taste but was in line with all of the other wines that we had been tasting at the other vineyards ($15-16 a glass). The one that was unavailable was the Syrah, can't remember the name now). Anyway not liking the one that was reasonably priced and usually always enjoying a Syrah, I asked if I could have a glass - "No. it's nearly gone and only available for tastings!" I kid you not. I explained I had wanted to taste it but was not allowed etc etc to which they replied I had been misinformed (and basically 'tough Luck' on that one.) I told them my husband had ordered a cheese board and I would have liked to have a glass of wine with him but didn't want to spend for The Pilgrim. After some humming and hawing, they piped up and offered a lovely Pinot noir that was not on menu at all - no mention but also in the $15 range. The whole thing seemed very bait and switch - so buyer beware. Also the waitress informed us there is no table service so you have to run up and down to get wines, cheese boards etc by yourself. it seems as if they are mainly catering to large tour groups and really don't care much for the individual business. Also check out the 'cheese' board with one bit of cheese and some 'crackers' that rivaled the dog biscuits we used to feed our Great Danes. Normally not a big deal either but for the crazy price we paid for it? We were expecting WHEY more!
One of my absolute favorite wineries to visit in New Zealand-it never disappoints! They are currently expanding, and I can't wait to see the finished look once construction is complete. The service is always immaculate, and the views are simply breathtaking no matter where you sit. It's the perfect place to relax, sip, and take in the beauty of Waiheke Island. So Sad Steve White doesn't own this place anymore... We arrived with a party of 8. Automatically sat us on the patio with a patio menu... We wanted Lunch. So, we followed the sign to the restaurant which leads us back around to the host stand. We asked to order stuff from the restaurant and we couldn't. We HAD to sit inside the hot-box restaurant. I'll give it to the host who warned us that it was hot... Why not leave us on the patio and give us the restaurant menu which was 10 feet away.... I Don't Get It... I hope they fix that Greenhouse restaurant. That Window Roof will cook you during the summer months. This table was in the middle where we sat... The tables by the railing had breeze. we could see people's hair blowing around while we baked in the sun in the middle. The tables in the back were in the shade, (which were open. A Chinese family were sat by the railing and they ask to move to those tables and did move to the tables in the back shaded tables).. I really feel like that french guy, (host), sabotaged us with that horrible table. this place is losing its touch... im sad... I really like this place... read more

The second winery we visited on Waiheke Island was Stonyridge Vineyard. We initially sat outside, but despite being given blankets, it was just too cold and windy, so we went inside. We ordered a cheese board and sampled three wines: Sauvignon blanc, Viognier, and Syrah. All were fantastic, and we purchased a bottle of the Viognier. Beautiful ambiance, great wine, good food, and a CAT! Wandering around the restaurant was a cat, who the staff tried to shoo away, unsuccessfully, but no one was bothered anyway. The cat was attracted to a particular table, specifically a particular seat. At the table was a couple, a man and woman, and the cat first appeared when the woman had stepped away. The cat jumped onto her empty seat and the guy didn't even notice the cat as he had his head down, looking at his phone. When the woman came back to sit down, the cat jumped onto her lap, which she didn't seem to mind. Unfortunately the cat didn't come to our table. Beautiful views, overpriced wine and impersonal service for such an expensive winery. That pretty much sums up our experience at Stonyridge. I was excited after the long hike up the hill to the tasting room. We were greeted warmly, but it really ended there. Their tasting menu is a la carte, and the rates begin higher than expected for grapes that aren't even native to Waiheke - tasting those wines is even more of a rip. This definitely could have been left out of our wine tasting adventure! read more

The adventure of heading to Waiheke sounded like so much fun... Phoning in on Friday afternoon there was two more table left for lunch on Saturday. That sounded like a plan, so we took the boat out for the first time in months, and anchored off Kennedy point and grabbed a cab. (I had to phone for the menu to be emailed to me since it wasn't downloading off the website) We ended up turning up a tad early, which meant that we had to crack a bottle sitting out on loungers in the sun under the palms with a beautiful vista of the ridge in the background and the rows of vines in the foreground... and Morris the cat curled up on the seat next to us, purring like a engine... It was simply idyllic... Stephen White the owner cruised past, introducing himself and making small talk and giving us some snippets of the terroir. He was very friendly and warm. The gaggle of wine tourist bustled past and we waited for them to thin out before returning back for some attention from the staff as it was clear no one was about to come and seat us. We didn't really care as we weren't on a timetable and the merlot meritage was slipping down a little too easily. The dining room is made up of several long large group tables, and a cluster of smaller tables in a patio which felt like you are still outside without being subjected to the weather. The food menu looked good... but pricey... we started with some bread, with hummus and some rather bitter (possibly homemade) pesto. Then Fresh Sashimi was Tuna with jalapenos which was fresh but not amazing... Hoping the mains would blow us away I was excited for Duck while my date drooled over his Lamb rack.... Both dishes was beautifully presented. But sadly my duck was fatty, little chewy and too salty and not very exciting... His lamb was much better and the texture and flavor was sublime. Because I'm a glutton we had to have dessert... that and the second bottle was slipping away. Both desserts (Panna Cotta and the Chilli chocolate) were completely underwhelming and the portions was as expected rather miserly. All in all the atmosphere was amazing, a real ace in the hole... the service and staff was not remarkable but par for what you'd expect. The food was average at a push which is not indicative of the price. But if you don't mind paying a little extra for location and ambiance its not a bad deal. But I won't be rushing back. read more
I have visited here a couple of times now and I do really like this winery. It has a great spot with it's cute sunflowers and vines under the veranda. There is also a whole heap of awesome outdoor seating options so you can catch some of the sunshine. Grab a lounger or a comfy couch and live it up with your friends! I can definitely see it would be possible to spend sometime here just relaxing with some great food and tasty wine. The times I've visited I have done a couple of wine tastings which I've enjoyed. And I think one other time I was just so hot from biking that I stopped in here for a nice, ice cold bottle of Coca Cola! And boy did that work a treat. If you are planning on visiting Waiheke, I would defnitely recommend a stop here read more

I must say this is one of the best meals I've ever had. The food is farm to table, the plating is a true work of art, The ambience is fantastic, and the views beyond amazing! You must try the caprese salad, rack of lamb, and beef carpaccio! read more

We came to Stonyridge Vineyard for a work function and it was just magnificent. Just being on Waiheke Island is enough to make you feel like you've had a mini holiday, but experiencing Stonyridge really takes it to another level. There is something really peaceful about this Vineyard. I think it's to do with their olive grove. We sat under the trees for a while and listened to the sound of the wind rustling through the leaves. We then went up to the restaurant which looks over the vineyard and across rolling hills. Magical. The staff were friendly, helpful and lots of fun too. I don't drink much wine but I did love the Waiheke Cider they had there. It was crisp and refreshing which was great on the stinking hot day we had. read more

Went out on the yoga deck for some tasting. Went for the premium tasting menu which included the ultra premium stoneyridge larose. I was not impressed with the larose but that's what's good about a tasting menu. Grounds were absolutely gorgeous and would be especially enjoyable to do down dog while sipping my favorite wine choice... pilgram. Did not try the food but all in the restaurant looked happy. read more

Wow.. just wow!! So amazing!! From start to finish! Staff is AMAZING (shout out to Janis) and the owner went above and beyond! We are visiting from the states and happened to meet Steven (the owner) on the ferry and he went out of his way to make our experience at stonyridge unforgettable by even making sure we had a table on a crazy busy rugby night! Highly highly recommend for all to come to this vineyard if you love good food, wine and company!! We cannot thank everyone at the vineyard enough!! They made our honeymoon that much better? read more

Beautiful view but not the best. Good wine. But not the best. So overpriced it was ridiculous. Staff was incredibly Uninformed and ended up misusing our credit card. Huge disappointment. Staff changes and more understanding of worth could move a star rating significant. Of course unethical charges is awful read more

We can not put 3.5 stars so this why i am giving it 3 stars. But overall it was as the ratings say A-OK, with some aspects of the experience better than others. Anyway we came here as it was our wedding anniversary and thought as we had never actually eaten at any of the vineyards here on the island it would be something special. Plus we were fed up of racking our brains for somewhere to go in Auckland. Luckily we got a beautiful day....well it is summer, and though had made the booking for a particular time we turned up an hour early and managed to get seated. One good point. At first and throughout the meal the service was quick enough and friendly. We started off with the starter of the Beef Carpaccio which was pretty good. No complaints there. For mains i chose the Pan Fried Market Fish with crispy skin and warm salad of zucchini, baby onion, broccoli ,kale and pomegranate with fresh chilli and tzatziki dressing. It was okay , but when i saw another tables order of the lamb come out i wished i had ordered that. It looked so delicious!! My better half ordered the Grilled Angus Eye Fillet with gourmet roasted potatoes, trio of beans with vietnamese dressing and beef jus. She liked it and i tried a little bit and it was not too bad at all. Overall both dishes looked good and tasted pretty good. For desert she ordered the orange and hazelnut cheesecake, raspberry sorbet and mango puree. And i ordered the Meringata with dark chocolate mousse , blackberries and creme anglaise. It definitely pleased my sweet tooth , as did my sample of the cheese cake. The desert won over the rest of the dishes we had. I had ordered a glass of wine. Dont ask me which as i took the waitresses recommendations , but i thought it was only $18 , but it was actually $50!!! ...and nothing special at that!! Just a glass of wine. It was a quarter of the bill!!. The staff really should specify and make clear the cost . So overall...food was okay, service good except for not telling us about the difference in cost. Hey, i am no wine connoisseur so need to be told of such things. Especially as there is smaller glasses available. Make it known there is that option!! Location is great but the final thing overall despite the service and food the cost was a bit high for what you got. We wont be going there again in a hurry!! read more
