Pros: Staff on the checkout lines are friendly and helpful. Bakery goods are better than other area supermarkets. Prices are slightly cheaper than the other two major supermarkets. Cons: Be sure to check the "use by" dates carefully. I've found corn tortillas 3 years out of date. I recently found some canned goods over a year out of date. Told a couple of the shelf stackers about it, and was completely ignored. Learned never to by packages of berrys. The ones at the bottom of the package are usually moldy. Don't trust the dates on eggs, especially organic ones. I've bought watery eggs several times, with yolks that burst immediately when cracking them into a pan. All eggs in the carton always have the same issue. read more

The worst of the three major stores in Norwich. Unless you're in the produce department, be prepared for a shrug and a smile if you need any help. This is corporate culture, not the employees' fault, but still a drag. read more

Honestly the selection is good, but the prices are high. As far as checkout goes, they clearly cut staff so you have one cashier with a long line. And self service checkout is a nightmare. The self service requires help at least once per person to checkout, so you get to wait to be spoken to in the rudest way possible by whichever angry person they have assigned to "supervise" the self service. My advice, if you need something specific from there, sure. But for my regular groceries, it's way less hassle and much friendlier staff anywhere else. read more

I really want to like this Stop and Shop, but they really need to get it together when it comes to keeping up with the dates on products. The other day I went shopping and found several gallons of expired milk in the fridge. I also found bread expired in the deli section. I go to fetch an onion out of the onion pile and find an onion with mold on it. It's one thing to find an expired product occasionally but it happens consistently at this location. read more

Long lines. Stop & Shop never has enough cashiers and baggers. They try to alleviate this by offering DIY scanners and Self-Checkouts. However the Self-Scanners are often unavailable or recharging. The Self-Checkouts get easily confused by produce and marked-down meats and they're very loud. As for the human cashiers, they often like to engage in side talk with themselves. At least there's always shopping carts and baskets. read more

Sorry to have to write this but this happens way to often. the product behind the tag is not what is on sale. It happened again today and had to write. It is not the customers responsibility to have to read each tag to make sure it is the correct price. The customer counts on you to place your product correctly. Today I bought coffee. excited to see it on sale. When I got out I looked at my receipt and it was not discounted. I went in and asked customer service, we went and looked at the shelf there it was so she could see the tag had the wrong product behind. she said she could not refund the difference because it was not the same count. I know they stopped putting prices on product so in case someone made a mistake but it's the same thing if the tag is there representing the product it is the stores responsibility not the customer. read more

On 1/17/2022 we were in Stop & Shop Norwichtown Ct. We finished up our shopping and proceeded to the self check-out area. After we scanned a couple of items a error code came up on the screen saying please wait for assistance. The overhead light was flashing with no associate in the scanning area. After a minute we located an associate and asked for assistance. The associate had a very bad attitude when we asked for assistance in which we told her that we did not appreciate the attitude. The associate became very defensive and said to us that she can't help if we are computer illiterate. This is the way Stop & Shop trains their customer service team? The management team of Stop & Shop may want to reevaluate their guest service otherwise with continued incidents such as this other options are looking much better. Stop & Shop just lost two customers because tonight's incident. Good luck in the future!!! read more

This is one of my favorite Stop and Shops to shop. The produce is high quality and the store is very clean. I would probably give this even a four and a half star rating but they don't provide that option. They lose a half star for bagging... the bags are cheaply made and thin and on more than one occasion ripped spilling everything on the driveway breaking anything in glass containers. I frequently have to tell the bagger to double bag for cans and glass. Should never have to tell someone doing a job how to properly do their job. Other than that I give them props for their quality produce and meats and the employees have always been helpful and friendly. Keep up the good work! read more

I was so happy with my 1/2 sheet pull-apart cake I picked up on 12/28! The Bake Shop staff were friendly and patient especially with my special requests. They agreed to do 2 kinds of frosting ( buttercream & buttercream) as well as 2 flavors of cupcakes. The writing was beautiful & professional; the roses were amazing! Our retiring co-worker was so happy with the surprise. I will definitely continue ordering my cakes from Stop & Shop! read more

On way out I noted all deli stuff was being covered and closed up. Seemed awfully early for what I Thought closing time was. I do not care to have an allergic reaction because Big Y does not care about customers except to take their money.

Do not work at this Stop & Shop! I repeat, do NOT work at this Stop & Shop! If you do, you'll end working at the meat department immediately because there are no other jobs available in that grocery store, nor will there ever be for many many years to come. Working at the meat department is the WORST job in the world!!! It's an absolute disgrace working there. No way in f****n' hell can you deal with customers and what orders they want. The employees there are "careless" and there's nothing you can do to make your life oh-so-much easier when it comes to working at that dumb***k meat department. I'm warning you, it's a total pain in the a$$! read more
