I interviewed a number of Siding Contractors to complete the re-siding of my home in July. Among…read morethe contractors, I received a very detailed and professional looking estimate for a siding job from Michael Means of Mean's Contracting (phone # 336 823 4632 located on Kanoy Farm Rd in Kernersville, NC)  in August.  I agreed to his estimate (it was not the least expensive) for the job and paid a deposit of $4,500 for materials and understood there was a 12 - 16 week waiting period for the siding to be produced and delivered. In mid-November, having heard nothing from Mean's Contracting, I reached out and after a bit of phone tag, was advised the order had allegedly "not been forwarded by the local supplier to the manufacturer for processing".  At that time, a rush replacement order was entered with the manufacturer and it should take less than 12 weeks for the siding to be delivered.  Following is a precise timeline: February 17 - I reached out to Mean's Contracting and was advised via text (following is an exact quote):  "My rep said  2 1/2 weeks they will have it (the siding) in hand and I'll go ahead and get you in the line up to correspond with that timeline." March 26 - Having heard nothing from Mean's Contracting, I texted and asked about the status of the siding. This text did not receive a response. March 29 - I texted Mean's Contracting again asking the status of the siding job. This text did not receive a response.   March 30 - I called and left a message indicating my concern at the lack of a response. April 11 - I received a full refund check for $4,500 dated April 6. The April 6 check included a handwritten note apologizing that he was unable to complete the job.  The letter did not  offer an explanation to texts stating the siding was just weeks away from delivery. I suspect that Michael Means imagines he has "made me whole" by returning the initial materials check.  However, it's now nine months since I wrote the check for $4,500 and the price of siding and services have greatly increased and I find myself on the search for another contractor to complete the job.  If you need work done, please consider the mental cost of doing business with a person who will make false promises, lead you along with false promises, then nice months later return your deposit with no valid reason.
