Stopped by Storming Crab for lunch and had a great experience all around! They start you off with a few pieces of seafood bread, which is truly rich and delicious. It's buttery, cheesy, and has chunks of crab. We loved it so much that we got a full order to take home. They also have different options for boils at different price points. We opted for the snow crab and shrimp and decided to add black muscles. They also have different sauces, and we really enjoyed the house sauce that's a combination of all the sauces. We were able to share one order between two people with some to take home as well. The price is fair for the amount and quality of seafood you get. The restaurant has an under the sea theme and has a great environment for eating seafood. Unfortunately, the service missed the mark a bit. Our server wasn't super friendly and did not add to the experience. Regardless, we look forward to coming back, especially for the seafood bread! read more

The place is not what I was expecting. It was quiet; lots of marker all over the place, maybe too bright for me. The service was fast and attentive. We got the #2 (snow crab legs, shrimp, corn, potatoes, sausage). The dish was fun: fun to eat, fun to pitch out, a great experience. It's good, but was pricey. I have this in my favorites. I love Cajun sauce. I visit Storming Crab and it was really good. The only thing I didn't like was the service felt a little uncomfortable. The most ghetto place ive ever been in. waitresses walked right past us 100 times, vaped inside, messed up the order, took 2 hours for our food with only 3 people in the building, and they most certainly weren't doing their job. If you like overpriced, overcooked and under seasoned food than this is the place for you. Basically low quality seafood drenched in butter or some sort of butter flavored oil. The floors are sticky with the oil and shoe dirt combo, The staff takes your order and is never seen again. My sister and nieces were in town for the holidays, the night before they flew back home we decided to have one last family dinner. There was 6 of us. My mother, sister, 2 nieces, one of my sons, and myself. Since we all liked Seafood we thought we would try Storming Crab. We went mid-week so it wasn't busy and where greeted promptly. They quickly sat us and our server went over our options as none of us have ever been there. We decided that the 6 of us could get by with a Dinner combo #2 and #4. They list it as feeding 2-3 people, and depending on appetite of the diners, that seems fairly accurate. None of us went home hungry. We also had an order of the seafood bread... which was fantastic. Do recommend getting it if it doesn't come with your meal. For flavoring we chose the Cajun on the #4 and the Old Bay butter on the #2, both were really good, but the table favorite was the Old Bay butter. You have to get the same seasoning per combo. Because of the way they cook/season the combos they can't do different flavors per combo. However they will give you a side of a different one if asked, and I wanted to try to Sam's Special. It had a good flavor, but I didn't think it was all that hot/spicy. Our server was very nice. She even offered to take a group photo of us. We were grateful for that as my selfie skills are seriously lacking... or so the twenty somethings told me. She was very nice and informative, answered our questions and made sure we were taken care of the entire time we were there. The interior is done up with a pier/dock theme with nets, traps, and fake sea creatures strung around the place. It was also heavily written on. Part of their shtick is that they give you markers so you can write your name or draw something on the walls or any surface you can reach. My son and nieces did exactly that... Not really my style so I just watched. Overall our experience was good. The food was decent, it is pricey, but so is seafood in most places. If you get cheap seafood, you're probably going to regret it. The food might not have been the best seafood I've had, but we are in the heart of the Midwest not a coastal town, but for Rockford, it might actually be the best option that you have. read more

Plenty of options, many of which are done through combinationsof main course and side items. For example a diner could select 2 entree items 2 sides, and a sauce. +I had white clams, sausage and veggies. I enjoyed the muscles, but the sausage wasn't as warm as I wanted it to be. Veggies were good however +Mom had the scallops, and they were up to par. No complaints +Dad had black muscles, which were good, but what really impressed me was his gumbo. I like gumbo a lot and this was one of the best things on the visit. It had a real kick, which is also a plus if you like spice. +Most of their dishes and sauces seem to have a fair amount of spiciness on some level. +Finally I just had to have cajun rice. I was pleased with the dish Cons: -This place is one of the more expensive option one would find. There's nothing economical about it, but that is because fresh seafood is inherently expensive -Speaking of fresh... dishes like this is tough to do. The bigger the party, the more likely an entree may be more cold than it should be. May be safer to do smaller groups -These cons may be tied to the fact the menu is so vast, that price changes will be very frequent and items subject to regular alterations Bottom Line: If service and food consistency is off at all, this place is a 3 star. I went here with my family to celebrate mother's day since my brother recommended the place. We ordered 1/2 dozen raw oysters , 1/2 dozen baked oysters with garlic old bay butter seasoning, lobster boil, and the soft shell crab basket. My mom enjoyed the raw oysters and the baked were really good especially with lemon. The soft shell basket my brother ordered had 2 huge crabs bigger than my palm, and it was really good. Compared to other restaurants in the northwest suburbs the price was really reasonable and it was only about $90 for the whole thing. The lobster we ordered was a whole lobster with the shell and all ( kinda hard to see in the picture), and I wasn't sure how to eat it at first. We asked the waitress and just pried it apart, and the lobster was really tasty. This is my new Rockford favorite place! You should dress casual since the boil seafood can get a little messy even with an apron they give you. This place was good. I had heard good things from a local friend of mine. While in Rockford, we decided to give it a try. It's a typical seafood boil place. Service was friendly. You get to choose how spicy or mild you like your food prepared!! The staff was so friendly and helpful in helping us enjoy our time there!! They waitstaff at Storming Crab we're very attentive and accommodating! They serve complimentary seafood bread that is delicious! Warm, cheesy goodness. I order the pound of crab legs, comes with two halves of a potato, a small corn cob and your choice of flavored butter/spice level. First time I went, I ordered garlic butter. Too spicy. Like, the garlic burned my throat. Next time I asked for just plain butter. Much better! The crab legs are a little fishy smelling at first, but they are actually pretty tasty. It's a little pricey, but I know the price of crab legs has gone up. I enjoyed the dinner with my daughter. read more

We saw they are now open so we decided to go for lunch. There was ample parking and it was very handicap accessible. The parking area and the restaurant appeared very clean and had hand sanitizer stations throughout however the 2 I tried to use did not have sanitizer in them. We had appetizers and each ordered a meal. The menu is pretty confusing so we ended up with a ton of food leftover and a rather high tab. We would have been able to share meal had we known they were so large. Our server was Robby and he was outstanding but there was a guy behind the bar directly in line with our table who didn't look very friendly. We were told they had Pepsi products however when attempting to order we were told they were out of Pepsi, Lemonade & Raspberry tea so that was disappointing. All the food we ordered was ok in flavor and freshness but was definitely overcooked. It comes out dripping in whatever sauce you choose so it is a good thing they provide you with bibs and plastic gloves if one wants to wear plastic gloves while eating. read more

August 7, 2022 It's been a year or better, since my first visit to Storming Crab. While I do not eat sea food (lobster, crab, oysters etc.), my visit to a "sea food" restaurant is restricted to cod or salmon. My first visit to SC was for a friend's birthday. She enjoyed her meal and I liked my entre. I believe my meal was salmon. My friend and I enjoyed our meal and decided to visit SC sometime in the future. For my friend's recent birthday, she wanted to return to SC. The difference between our first visit and this second visit was strikingly different. Since our server just started two weeks earlier, I naturally shall be lenient, concerning the service. The menus seem to have changed, since my friend and I could not locate the items we had 1+ yrs. ago. Nevertheless, we did order something that looked somewhat familiar. Our appetizer ($9.99) consisted of a hand full of hush puppies 6 tiny onion rings and a small plastic container of ketchup. This was an omen of what was coming. Our meal finally arrived with a wadded buddle of artifacts. We were assured that this bundle contained everything we needed and the server left. That bundle contained an assortment of tools for eating crab, lobster, 2 plastic gloves and plastic bib. Unfortunately, my friend ordered Scallops and I had the Fried Cod and Fries. Not being adroit at eating seafood, I told the waitress that we would find a couple of metal forks useful in eating this food. By the time the server returned with 2 forks, I noticed we didn't have a knife to cut the Scallops in half and turn my Fried Cod into manageable bite sized pieces. We were informed that metal knifes are items they don't have but we could get a plastic knife. Apparently management is adverse to customers armed with metal butter knives with a serrated edge. As far as the food goes... My friend found the Scallops underwhelming. Turning to my battered Cod, I assume there was some actual cod under the pile of fried batter. If I ever get in the mood to eat some fried batter, I know where to go. Now it's time to receive the bill and I casually mentioned the 10% discount for senior citizens. The server had no idea what I was referring to. I told her that I called earlier (11:57 am) and talked to some guy and asked if there was a senior discount. - [Many places offer such a discount, but do not aggressively advertise that perk.] This SC employee said they do have a 10% discount for senior citizens. Either he didn't know what he was talking about, or the policy changed in the 4 hours and 31 minutes since he talked to me. In any event, our server checked and said the only discount is for veterans. Rather than continue this discussion I handed my server $60 for a $43.46 bill. Although my change should have been $16.54, the server returns with $16.25--29¢ less. The server said they (the register) didn't have any more quarters!! Believe me; I realize that 29¢ is insignificant. However, if you are in business where money is exchanged, it seems that having sufficient money to make accurate change would be a personal requirement by management! One other item that SC and other restaurants do is provide "Tips Suggestion." On my bill ($39.95 plus $3.50 tax =$43.46), the "suggested tip" for 18% would be $7.83 20% would be $8.69 23% would be $10.00 The math for this "suggested tips" is not calculated based upon the price of the food, it is calculated based upon the cost of the food AND tax. Perhaps I am wrong, but I tip according the total price of the food BEFORE tax. Due to the length of this review, I can't say, "To make a long story short..." Suffice it to say my friend and I will not return to STORMING CRAB 6779 E. State St., Rockford, Illinois. read more
