When I moved here, I considered this office as a possible place to find a PCP, so I called them to arrange just that. I was told that to get the ball rolling on the process, I would have to get my old PCP to "send us your records, and then we'll see if we're a good match for you." What??? I've never heard of a policy like this anywhere, and neither has my old PCP's office (who stated - and I quote - "WOW, that's great that they can be so selective!"). And what happens after I've sent them all of my personal medical history, and they decide that I'm not a "good fit" for Stowe Family Practice? No thank you. read more

If I could give them less than one star, I would. The doctor I regularly saw actually walked away from me before finishing an exam, misconstrued virtually everything I said, refused to adjust my BP meds ( my blood pressure was spiking to ~230/190), a rarely spent more than 5 min. w/me). I did get to meet a few nice medical students, tho. Front office staff was often surly and seemed to look for ways to not do things. I left because it seemed to me that, eventually, someone was going to sue the clinic and Dr for malpractice and I didn't want to be the one to do it. read more

So many problems over the years with this office. Both the doctors and the staff are not very customer focused - they have not returned calls, did not respond to mailed correspondence, delayed giving referrals, the list goes on and on. Basically their business model seems to be to generate as many office visits as possible, even insisting on coming in to renew a prescription that had been renewed regularly for years. Certain doctors are very resistant to providing referrals and I have received several misdiagnosis's when they insisted on diagnosing themselves in areas they were clearly not capable in. When asked about the cost of tests, my doctor indignantly refused to provide any information and pressured me to get a bunch of expensive tests that it turned out I did not need. This office is an example of all that is wrong with medicine in America today. All they care about is generating as much money as possible even at the expense of providing good care. There is no effort to partner with the patient, instead they treat you as if you have no right to question anything they say. The two good reviews for this office are both from tourists who were handled right away since the staff knows they will lose that business if they don't take them immediately. On the other hand, when I need to make an appointment I usually have to leave a message which they don't return and then after I call them back they tell me it will take weeks to get in. Don't listen to the one time tourist reviews, the local's reviews are more telling. read more

If you're sick, don't go here. Just don't go here at all. I'm 23. When I moved up to Stowe from NJ, I went in and told the lady Dr. (red hair) that I wanted to get off the pain killers that my doctor in NJ had me on for my shoulder pain and nerve damage. I was told that I was a "drug addict" and that I should go to some treatment center here in Vermont. First of all, I'm not a drug addict. I was dependant on the meds my previous physician had been giving me, and I expressed that I wanted to get off them - I also never abused what was given to me. She saw my medical record, and knew I was not making any of this up. I understand that there is an opiate epidemic going on right now in Vermont... Doctors have their guard up, as they should. But I was very disappointed when I was labeled an addict so quickly. I wound up going to see Dr. BISBEE (I guess he used to be a physician at stowe family), and it was a very expensive ordeal. He was able to get me tapered off of the pain pills with out me having to go into withdrawal. It's a shame stowe family lost him. He is a top notch doctor. Dr. Quin is also daft. I've seen him three times and he introduced himself to me as if he had never met me the other two times. If he can't remember a patient, it makes me wonder what else he can not remember. read more

I tried to make a wellness/physical appointment here and they turned me away. First of all, they won't even make an appointment for you unless they have your primary care and immunization records. Second of all, I was here in Vermont for 4 months during the summer and they refused to see me during that time because I'm from California and I wasn't a VT resident even though they are in-network with Cigna, my insurance. They pick and choose who they want to see and set up barriers to care and they don't have your healthcare in mind. They just want a local who can pay their co-pays that they can see over and over again. The front desk was rude, constantly putting me on hold to talk to her "supervisor." The supervisor said that I can't be seen because I wasn't there to establish care. Hello! I told them I come here every summer and that I'm here for months after the desired appointment time. We were Canadian tourists staying at Trapp when one of our party fell quite ill. We made the trek down the mountain on a Wednesday afternoon to seek help at the Immediate Care Clinic, which - interestingly, and inconveniently - is closed on Wednesdays. Hmm. Unsure of what to do, we came across this medical building, and opted to go inside to ask the receptionists if we could have our friend seen. Despite the fact that it was a family practice, by appointment and not a walk-in clinic, the staff were very accommodating - they got my friend's travel insurance info, and she was seen by both a Nurse Practitioner AND a doctor within about 45 minutes. The doctor was even kind enough to give out samples of antibiotics instead of having us pay out of pocket for them, and she obtained the contact info for my friend's GP back in Ontario so she could forward any relevant tests when we returned. I wish I could remember the doctor's name, but we were just impressed overall by how kind and helpful they were in that facility; it's nice to know there's someplace to go (short of a hospital) that will address your concerns, even when you're far from home! read more

During a recent trip to Stowe, I needed emergency medical attention and with no urgent care or hospital nearby this practice was my saving grace. The nurses and doctor did their best with what they had available to them and for that, I am greatly grateful. The doctor even made a call to the urgent care in Burlington on my behalf which I greatly appreciated. My one complaint/advice is regarding the front desk personnel - the older lady was impatient and rude at a time when all I needed was compassion. The young lady showed compassion and worked as quickly as she could to have me seen as soon as possible(without an appointment). I understand you need my information however when I am giving you everything you need you are able to copy and give it back to me later. I sometimes work with people in crisis and know that patience and compassion are key! read more

I have been going to Stowe Family Practice for nearly 30 years, and my children have as well until they moved away. I have seen many of the staff come and go, but the consistency and high quality of care and professionalism has not changed over time. My wife very recently visited with a severe allergic reaction complicated by an infection. She was so thankful for the thorough and comprehensive team approach she experienced by the entire staff. She was as sick as she had been in her life, barely able to swallow and in extreme pain and discomfort. Within two days of the visit she is just about back to normal and was able to return to work in a single day. What is really remarkable is that when the receptionist learned how ill she was, she got her into the office that day. Moreover, they promptly set up a referral to Dartmouth as a backup to the visit--a service we thankfully do not need. read more

Once upon a time, I thought this place was great. I love my primary care doctor here. However, I never get in to see her. I have had many unfortunate events happen that required doctors visits, and of all the times I have gone, I got to see her for a physical and to have a spot biopsied. All other times have been different doctors or LPNs within the practice. You know they have too many patients when... Anyways, my big issue is this: Three weeks ago I got a stress fracture from running in a 5k. I call them as soon as I figured out my pain wasn't going away, and it took a week to get in for an appointment, late in the day on the next Friday. I come in, get checked out, get an X-ray, and ask for a flu shot while I am there. 30 minutes after the doctor came back after viewing the X-ray and went to grab a nurse for the shot, I finally received it. That was just the beginning of the crazy I have been dealing with. While there in that Friday, I was told I would have results by Monday or Tuesday from the X-ray. So, Monday I call. I am told they have the results but they haven't been reviewed by the doctor yet. Okay, fine. Tuesday morning I call, same story. Tuesday afternoon I call and they say the original information I was given was wrong, and they don't have my results and to keep on using the RICE method. Wednesday, they call me with the results, and tell me to take it easy for two weeks. (I walk 5+ miles a day at my job, therefore I get no rest for my foot during the day) They don't offer anything to help. I call back and explain I've only been getting worse, and I need a way to rest my foot. Finally they offer crutches. I go in to get them and wait about 15 minutes in the waiting room, even though they knew I was coming. When I get them, they are still in the packaging, not adjusted or anything. No one asks if I have ever used them before, no one helps my husband and I adjust them. I almost slip and fall in their office on them while trying them out at the wrong adjustment, and still no help. It took about an hour to finally get them to the right adjustment. So, I continue researching my condition and everywhere, literally everywhere, I find that I should be in a tall walking boot, not on Crutches, not just using the RICE method. So I call to see where I can get one and if they can help me get in one. They take down my message and say they will have someone look into that for me. They never called back, so I am still in pain, still have the wrong treatment for my stress fracture, and am getting absolutely no help from them. I should have just gone to the ER. read more

This place is a joke. My wife injured her knee several months ago hiking. The following day I took her here to get it checked out. There was swelling and extreme pain. They did an x-ray and said there was nothing wrong. Dr Quinn told her to go home take some Ibuprofen, put some ice on it and he would refer to Physical Therapy. PT turned out to be useless and the Ibuprofen didn't work. Five months later she is still in pain and the knee is much weaker. We moved 800 miles away and I took her to a local Dr who ordered an MRI and guess what ? It's a torn ACL which involved surgery. So a Dr in a ski town totally missed a torn ACL ? Apparently he has never seen a knee injury. Here's some advice. DO NOT SEEK MEDICAL TREATMENT OF ANY KIND AT STOWE FAMILY PRACTICE. The receptionist is rude and acted like she didn't care if you were there or not. My wife requested a refill for a maintenance med she has taken for a long time. Dr Quinn told her her thyroid was fine and she didn't need it. Again local Dr ordered a blood test and bingo, still needs the thyroid meds. This place seriously needs to go back to school. Every one from the front desk receptionist to the medical staff seriously needs to learn why people go into the medical profession to begin with. I am thankfully no longer in Stowe, the most overrated town I have ever lived in. If you happen to get injured in Stowe drive over to UVM for treatment. Actually a local witch doctor would be a better choice than Stowe Family Practice. read more

This morning I was worrying about a heart symptom and before going to the ER at UVM, time consuming and expensive, I asked for a last minute appointment to get an EKG and consult. Unfortunately, while on vacation, I had an allergic reaction to something I ate. My lips nearly tripled in size, and my eye began to swell. We found this office on a random Google search, and it saved my trip. They worked us right in, and I was in and out within an hour. I was able to take my prescription next door to have it filled with little hassle. read more

I went to this place to get a prescription filled out for my medication. I did the entire process, filled out the paperwork, showed my insurance card, and I was billed $116 for a visit. On top of that, another $20 for a drug test that I was insisted on taking in order to get a prescription for my medication. Dr. Quinn most likely did not look at my chart for he would of had known about me being on this medication since being in sixth grade, on top of that making me take a drug test made me feel like I was a drug addict, which I am not. The nurses are very welcoming, but not so from the doctor who pretty much interrogated me the entire session. I will not be coming back and will be cancelling my appointment. If you ever are in need of a doctor and need an appointment. Please go somewhere else, otherwise you will get extremely irritated and angry. read more

Dr. Quinn is so bad , uncaring and rude, he might qualify as a dishwasher in a local restaurant IF he didn't come in contact with people .Dr. Volansky barely ranks above Quinn , I don't know how she became the Dr. for CHSLV , it wasn't because she is a good Dr. . Dr. Marvin , when she has a little more practice will be fine , Dr.Felsted is developing a personality , maybe with time and practice she will be OK , and now -drum roll please -is Dr.Clea James . I wish she could be cloned .She is Perfect !!! She is equal to the former Dr. Sampson and Bisbee were years ago. Volansky was there at that time, but let's not bring back awful memories. If Quinn and Volansky would quit ,I might go back , but not UNTIL. If you are not a local and need medical , go to FAHC , skip Copley like the plague ,FAHC is definitely worth the extra miles . We were recently on vacation in Smugglers Notch and my 12 year old son had a freak injury - foot run over by a friend's car. We were panicked and Stowe Family Practice was the first place we saw on our travels. I am so happy that we did. They were amazing. He's a tough kid but he was in so much pain that he was hyperventilating. They took him right in through the emergency entrance in the back, made him feel comfortable (me too since I was a wreck), and treated him with respect and great care. They even had xray right there. My husband and I, and our son, were so impressed with the care there. I wish we lived up here. I would switch our practice to them in a heartbeat. read more

NO ONE has called him and when he has called, he is told no one has even LOOKED at his file yet. This place is a joke.
