She quickly got back to me and book me an appointment for the same day. Tina is amazing! I was not sure about straightening my hair first but she went over the process and told me about what to expect for the real redults. She is very kind, energetic and professional. She listened to all my concerns and made sure to keep my hair from being damaged during the process. I came in for Japanese straightening and changed my mind last minute to do Japanese straightening only on the roots and have a digital perm on the bottom. Joseph did an amazing job on both treatments but my curls didn't pan out in the rain as planned. Tina was amazing enough to fix the problem and gave me a hair Botox treatment that really put the moisture back into my hair to give the look I wanted. I had a great experience at Straight by Tina Lee! Even before the appointment, Tina made sure to text me information to help me prepare (e.g. wash hair the morning of). I have had my hair permanently straightened for the past 2-3 years and have gone to at least 3 different places. Each time, my hair would end up straight but it would still be frizzy which I just accepted it as a payoff for the chemical damage. However, Tina and Chloe spent a lot of time looking at my hair to make sure that they knew what to do with it and Tina would update me every step of the way. They decided on doing a keratin treatment on the previously straightened portion of my hair and would do the straightening on the roots that had grown out. I just washed my hair today and I can say that my hair hasn't felt this straight and silky in years which is amazing. read more

I'm very traumatized by my experience at this salon. I have never felt this distressed. I didn't want to go out, because I am so embarrassed as my hair has been ruined. I went in very excitedly looking to get a wavy curl perm. For the record, I get my perm done every year, so I'm very familiar with how it's done. Usually it takes a stylist 5 hours to perm my hair, however this time it only took Tina's team less than 2 hrs including trimming, cutting and discussing the style options. Makes me wonder what kind of chemicals did they use to speed up the result. My hair turned out severely damaged. She said she can redo the perm but as soon as I asked for a plan on how she is going to fix my damaged hair, instead of explaining and comforting me, Tina got very defensive and blamed it on my fine hair and tried to brush me off by offering a highend shampoo and repair treatment. I have attached pictures and my text with Tina. I am appalled at the way they have dealt with this situation and would not recommend dealing with them. read more

I booked a balayage appointment for my hair and was surprised to get an appointment for the next day, considering how busy Tina's salon is. Upon my visit, I was very impressed with the knowledge and service that they provided. Lam was my stylist for the day, having about 25+ years as a master colorist. Before we started, I showed him photos of what I wanted done, and he explained the process to me and helped me understand why the process would take so long. Throughout the entire process, Lam and Tina kept checking in on me to make sure I was comfy and made sure I wasn't starving (my appointment was from 11 - 4 PM). Although the process took a little bit longer than I had anticipated, Lam was able to give me the color I was looking for in the end! At first, we weren't sure if it would be possible since I was going from dark brown/black hair to ash blonde/silver. Overall, the service was great, and they were so careful with my hair that my hair is still as healthy as it can be. I usually never go back to the same place I color my hair, because I am never satisfied afterwards, but I am definitely coming back to Lam. This was a little gem that I was so glad that I found when spending my vacation in Vancouver. I had a very complicated hair that I messed up. Before I had permed underneath to make my hair look more volume but it backfired me making my hair looking super weird, unnatural, and also not easy to style. I scheduled an appointment to get Japanese Hair Straightening. Tina was so friendly. She had Suzy (I hope I spelled her name right) doing my hair. Suzy was amazing. She doesn't speak much English but she's very skillful. She did the treatment and cut my hair. It turned out looking so amazing. TLDR - Overpriced and unprofessional. The perm itself turned out fine . Services were expensive at baseline and you can get the same thing done elsewhere for a better price and experience. I have had a number of perms done in the past, both cold and hot. I went to Tina's salon because yelp recommended them for perms. Tina had a stylist whom she said was an expert on digital perms and she herself watched and operated as a receptionist while the stylist worked. It was a strange set up as I assumed Tina was the lead hair person and I didn't ask for an apprentice/trainee? There's a lot of downtime during the perm where you're waiting for the solutions, heat etc. to work. The stylist would go to the other side of the room during these periods and would say she would be back in x minutes. I could hear her and Tina chatting as I watched the time and had to call the stylist over after x amount of time had passed a few times so she would check my hair. I've never had to ask a stylist check the perm process before... they would just do it on their own so the hair wouldn't be over processed. Before handing me the payment terminal and before I paid, Tina chastised how much time they spent with me and that the service was discounted. I always tip 18% for hair services and I felt like she was trying to force a larger tip. Ended up giving 10% instead. I was in the salon for about 3 hours and 1.5 hours was spent waiting and listening to Tina and staff chatting in the back. Full price for the perm was $400 discounted to $280- cut and treatments not included. At other salons (inclusive of those downtown)the price is about $250 full price with cut and maybe olaplex included (for my hair length). I also want to point out that Tina charged me $60 for a cut which was their long hair fee but I have shoulder length hair. Last, Tina made comments about how my hair was thinning at the back and recommended extensions that are currently on promo for about $1000, but require touch ups every 3 months for about $300. I think the media does a pretty good job squashing women's self esteem already, really didn't need her to point out deficiencies. If I wanted her help with it, I would ask for options. For those prices, hair transplant makes more sense. In response to owners comments (google): - appreciate the apology - did not receive advice on preventing hair loss. - adding extensions and weight to other areas of the scalp especially for people with fine hair, will likely encourage further hair loss (example Jennifer Aniston and Britney Spears). After reading all the positive reviews on Yelp, I decided to make an appointment to get my hair straightened at Straight by Tina Lee. It was the best decision! Let me first say that my hair is extremely damaged due to my love of dyeing and I've had the Japanese Straightening done back in April while I was in Tokyo. Not to mention, I've had my hair bleached and highlights done in 2016. The appointment aspect was extremely easy, and Tina got back to me right away. I arrived at least 15 minutes before my appointment because I was afraid of getting lost (Yes, I am that person... the one who is prone to getting lost). Tina greeted me like I was an old friend and had me sit down to get started. Sue was the one who did my straightening. The entire process took about 4 hours and I was never uncomfortable during the process. I went for a straightening in my visit to Vancouver 4 days ago. I have been taking straightenings for 15 years every half year, I have to say this is the best one I got. My hair got damaged in the last straightening (at the other place), from my previous user experience, I already give up and wait the right time to cut the damaged hair off. All of them are so experienced and understood my hair condition so well. Just then I had my hair washed and dried, I thrilled to find that my hair is straightened so well and the damage part is 10x better than before!!! I just came back from a month-long vacation in Asia. 'Back to normal' you say. But what's not back to normal is my frizzy hard to manage hair. Well, my healthy, shiny, easy to manage hair now is what you may call 'the new normal'. Thanks to Yelp, I found Tina. A few days before my vacation, I went to Tina to have hair treatment. I knew the tropical weather in Asia will make my hair more stubborn than it already is. I wanted to save time worrying about my hair during vacation and of course I wanted to avoid looking 'mushroomy' in pictures. Tina was professional and seemed passionate about what she is doing. Sue, who works at her salon was the one who did my hair but Tina was a fixture behind my salon chair, coaching and engaging both Sue and me on why and how certain things need to be done on my hair. The 4 hour I had to endure sitting at the salon chair was worth it. I had my hair straightened before (once in Beverly Hills and twice in the Philippines) but I could tell that Tina does the job better! Thank you Tina. I'd been to 3 countries during my vacation. I initially booked an appointment for a haircut only just to try out a new place. After talking to Tina and Sue, I got some good vibes and felt like being spontaneous. I asked Tina and Sue to do whatever they think would be good for me and they suggested I get a digital perm and a haircut. It turned out to be the best choice. I have very thin, sensitive hair but Sue did a fantastic job and my hair looks AMAZING! I've got digital perms many times in Korea but I feel like this is the best one so far. I came in initially for Japanese Straightening but after a consultation Tina said the best for my hair type would be Hair Botox. Throughout the whole process Tina was very attentive to what I wanted, her and her staff were very welcoming and friendly. I went to Tina 2 years ago for the Japanese straightening retouch when she worked in Davie St and it went well. Last year I went for another retouch to her new saloon and her korean hairdresser did it. I was concerned during the whole process and I told Tina to supervise the process as her hairdresser was new to Vancouver, barely speaked english and I supposed she didn't have experience with thin blonde caucasian hair. The result is that she fried my hair very badly. I told Tina I was really disappointed, she told me to comeback again and she tried to fixed it but my hair was too fried and damaged so she couldn't improve the hair condition. She gave me half of the money back. That money didn't pay for all the 6 hair cuts, deep conditioning treatments and expensive hair products that I had to buy. Even as of today, one year after the disgrace, I still have to go through at least 2 more hair cuts to cut off all the damaged hair. I was very hesitant to go through another retouch as I had such a bad experience in the past but today I went to Hair by Thomas and I had such a wonderful experience. He uses Sisheido products, high quality japanese brand and the results were really good. Still the damage hair from last year is there but the roots look really healthy and straight. I want to share this experience with other people because I wished one year ago somebody would tell me about it. read more

Got my first Japanese straigtening here. I was a little bit worried that my hair will not turn out the way I want, it's kinda short and all examples you see online are long hair, but im so happy with the results!! Its pin straight and shiny, it even feels and looks healthier!! Tina was very careful and answered all my questions, 3 hours went by super fast. I have caucasian hair, and although most masters know how to treat Asian ones, they may have problems with my type. Joseph was incredibly helpful and skilled at creating the look I desired. I initially went in for a perm but he took one look at my hair and said my curls from the previous perm were still very much intact and didn't need extra processing. He instead gave me a cut and showed me how to take care of my existing curls. He re-energized my hair! I have had my hair straightened for over a decade. After the first couple straightening with great results and silky hair, the last few years has been trying. Most of the times, I would have to use flattening iron after first wash. My hair has become quite damaged despite all the expensive salon hair products I have been using, i.e., Keratese, Rene Furterer, Moroccan Oil... Sue and Tina did an amazing job with the treatment and my hair cut :) my hair feels so silky and soft and there is zero frizz! I previously had Japanese straightening (first time) at a different salon and got my hair fried/burnt right on the center of my long hair, and nothing can be done.
