I got married at Lakeview Pavilion this summer and did wedding hair/makeup at the Strand Salon for me and a few family members. I cannot recommend them enough!! First of all, Brittney was so responsive and flexible about scheduling, helping me schedule my trials and being so unbelievably understanding as the number of appointments grew and shrank leading up to the wedding. We had our appointments inside the salon because we had a relatively small group and didn't want to deal with finding an appropriate space in one of the hotels. We are so glad we did--- It feels so warm and welcoming inside the salon, and we even were able to put out a breakfast food spread during the appointments! Brittney did our hair for the wedding day (we also got great blowouts/curls from Marisa and Michaela the day before!) and she is amazing---she is so so talented, and our hair stayed completely perfect for our entire 14+ hour event. Everyone had such different hair types and styles and everyone told me they got exactly what they were hoping for, if not far better! Nicole did our makeup and we similarly could not be more impressed! She knew exactly how to handle all of our concerns and made sure that everyone loved their look. We all just couldn't stop looking in the mirror! Just like our hair, the makeup did not budge throughout the day, even though we were in a hot and humid environment! Not only are all of the folks at Strand wonderfully talented, they are also just so nice!! WOW! I cannot believe how great my hair looks after my appointment with Michaela. My hair was so dull and lifeless before; that finally changed, which is something no other stylist at various other salons could seem to accomplish despite showing pictures of hair styles I liked/wanted to try. The salon was clean and pretty, and Lina, who cut my hair, was very nice, but she gave me the worst haircut I've ever gotten. I asked for a trim with long, soft layers and instead ended up looking like I tried to give myself a weird bob but gave up on the lowest layer. I'm particularly frustrated because this wasn't a cheap haircut and now I have to spend more money to get it fixed somewhere else. read more

This place is a great local gem! I've been in twice now for color, and both times have received outstanding service. When I say outstanding, what it really means is thorough, patient, professional and exceptionally kind. Janice did my color in round one, and after I procrastinated my booking for appointment two, Nancy took care of me the second time. Both of them do great work! I feel a little compelled to tell you the complex back story of my hair, my color, and my entire life, so that you'll understand how special my hair needs are... but maybe instead I'll compile all my reviews into a list so you can get the back story if you're interested. Hair stylist up charges significantly without notice. She just puts a line through my regular charge for my routine hair style, pencils in a much higher price on my bill and laughs, "merry Christmas. " She did not post a notice that there would be a price increase in her station as there had been in the past when she increased her fee. The staff is super friendly and the stylists & colorist are very talented. They have a convenient on-line appointment system that I use all the time. Went for a hot stone massage on 10/15/06. The place is clean and relaxing, but the hot stone massage is lacking. They don't put the stones underneath you and only use them to massage your back side. The massage itself was good and really got the kinks out, but if I'm going for the hot stones, I want them all over me and used for the entire massage. read more

This is a Wonderful Full Service Salon! I have been a client at this salon for years and I could not be happier. It has a very cozy atmosphere I always feel like I'm in a friend's living room rather than a salon. Rachel is an amazing stylist!! She always seems to know exactly what I'm looking for with my hair which is amazing because I change my mind a lot! I'm constantly bringing her pictures of different colors and styles I want to try and she always lets me know what will work with my hair and how to change the style to suit me. My husband got me a gift card here, so I went for the first time. My experience here was really fantastic. I had a stylist named Brittany and she was the nicest woman! She sat me down in the chair and went over what I told the receptionist when I called to make the appt about what I wanted done. She gave me a consultation, I gave her my ideas, she gave me hers and we went from there. Got my hair washed and an amazing scalp massage. No place I ever went to before massaged your head like this stylist did. The shampoo process took about 6 minutes and was amazing! After the wash I sat back down in the chair and I was offered a drink to make me comfortable before she got started. As I was getting my hair cut, the stylist would ask if the length was good if I wanted any changes, she also told me why she was doing certain things, which I liked. Good convo too so it wasn't this awkward silence the whole time. I had a feather extention put in my hair, and we took the time to pick out the color that went with my hair the best and at the end I was very pleased with how my hair came out! The atmosphere is very professional and everyone that I encountered that night was very friendly. I've been looking for a new hair stylist and I will def. be making my next appt with Brittany at this salon. If you look in the brochure you will notice the prices to be a bit up there, but I've learned from experience you get what you pay for and from this experience here, I believe it was well worth the money. I had an initial appointment with a stylist at 6:30 in the evening. After checking in at that time, I watched the time go by and several stylists walk past me without acknowledgement. After 20 minutes without communication I approached the front desk and was told I would need to reschedule!? I am a sole provider of a general practice and left early that day to keep my appointment. She was able to take my ideas and incorporate it into a great look for me. The manager/owner of the salon introduced herself and gave me a tour of the salon. And offered me a discounted spa service for my next visit. The spa offers wine service which is a nice touch when you come to relax. I will be a repeat customer. I love day spa at the strand! I have been going there for years. I currently live in Boston, but my family lives near the area, so I still go for hair cuts,waxes, and massages. In Boston most places charge $60+ to just see a junior stylist (someone who has only been in the business for a couple years), and half the time they charge you extra for blow dry and style, upwards of $20+. And the places that do charge $40-$45 for a cut do not have the same quality that you get at the day spa. Whenever I need a cut or wax I take the train all the way to Mansfield and walk just to go to the day spa (well, i visit my family as well) I don't have a regular hair stylist since I usually call the day before I need to come in, but I have NEVER had a bad hair cut. Some places around Mansfield/Foxboro charge 30 or $35 for a cut, but again, the quality is not even close. I usually can wait up to 3 months before I get my next cut because it grows out so well. I have seen probably everyone for a cut, De, Nancy Jane, Jen, and there are so many other talented stylists. I usually just call and say whoever is open, just book them. Before your cut, they sit you down and ask what you want and usually I will give them an idea of what I want and then say, "do whatever you think is best" and it always looks great! Also, I found out that everyone at the day spa has had at least 10+ years experience in the business. In Boston, that would cost you $80 at the cheapest. Usually someone who had that experience would cost $100 or more. For my wax, I usually go to Crystal, but I believe she only works part time. I have gone to other waxers and they are amazing as well. There massages are great as well. An hour for a Swedish is $65. and in Boston the cheapest you can find is $80. Same with the other treatments. The atmosphere is very nice and calming with beautiful music playing, comfy couches and chairs, and an all around good vibe. Everyone at the Day Spa is so nice and helpful and if you have questions or want something done another way they oblige. I love the Day Spa. All my friends and family at home go there and love it as well! read more

Great service and atmosphere! I recently just move to Massachusetts from California and have been without a stylist for almost 6 months. I was referred to a family friend and she basically ruined my hair. It was cut way shorter than I wanted and cut uneven. I've been letting my hair grow out and it finally got to the point where I couldn't stand the "crazy curly hair" look anymore. Kristen.M cut my hair and it looks fabulous! I came in with an idea but she definitely took that idea and ran with it and in the end it turned out 100 times better then I could have even imagined. Terrible service!! I bought a gift card for $140 dollars for my mother's birthday. When she went to use it for the first time, they claimed it only had $39 on it, and made her pay the difference. It took an entire week of phone calls back and forth before I could finally see the manager with all the receipts. She unapologetically gives my mom a refund (for the difference only!!) because of their screw up. No apologies, no acknowledgement that it was so embarrassing for me, and highly inconvenient to leave work early to drive there. No complimentary gift, or anything to make up for the terrible service. She just processed the refund for $101 and sent me out the door. SO UNPROFESSIONAL. read more

I have had about ten massages in my life. I have chronic back pain- L4,L5,S1 degenerative disc disease and bulging discs. (Per clinical MRI scans. ) I was so excited for this massage and I told the therapist what my issues were. She went hard on my lower back where the local disease and pain generates from so I asked her to go gentler. She didn't catch on that I was tense and sweating and not enjoying this massage. It stressed me out more than relaxed me! I feel badly because she was so nice but wasn't engaging in personalizing this service at all and wasn't realizing what my body needed. We walked in to make the appointments. The ambience seems nice.at first but it really isn't. I was not.plwase that.i had to hear other people laughing from the salon and people walking back and forth and cleaning things while I am trying to relax. I dropped a lot of money. I am highly disappointed with that. The front desk was a hot mess too. I will not go back there becuase of those listed above. Plus if you drop a lot of cash then yiu would think that they would at the very least be respectful of having quiet.time and relaxation. read more

I had been a loyal customer of the Strand many years back until my stylist changed. We made an appt for my husband to get his hair cut before our wedding and specifically requested a veteran stylist with experience. We were told the stylist was one of the highest level. Unfortunately, this was the worst hair cut he has ever received anywhere. Not only was the stylist presenting herself as completely inconvenienced by our presence, she did not listen to my husband saying he liked his hair short. We had to repeatedly ask for shorter and then she left it completely unfinished and uneven on one whole side. The top she barely cut any hairs. For style she took one brush of her fingers to push it sideways and flat and called it quits. He had to spend another half hour plus at home fixing it to feel comfortable going out of the house. Very disappointed at the decline in quality and service. Will no longer recommend this to others. read more
