Loved this coffee spot!! On the outside, it looks like nothing much as strip mall doesn't have much signage. However, friendly service as soon as we walked in! Coffee - smoothies - toast options I went with a small cold brew and dang that coffee was strong! I don't remember the name of the toast I got, but it had peanut butter, almonds, honey, and banana. So tasty! Plenty of seating, with tables, score! 2 gender neutral bathrooms available. Definitely one of the better coffee spots I've checked out in awhile. Fun place to grab a coffee. When you walk in, you're greeted by some great baristas. They have a lot of seating throughout the business. I also have a couple of board games to play if you want to chill there. They also have a movie exchange box where you can grab a movie and leave a movie for someone else. The Iced Latte lacked a little flavor but the Pesto Avocado Toast was incredibly flavorful. Would definitely recommend the Pesto Avocado Toast. Hickory and Palos Hills are in desperate need of some good hang out places.... especially coffee shops. This is the only place in the area with that kind of chill vibe. You can grab all the usual drinks hot or cold and study or do work. Occasionally there is an open mic. They have light food like avocado toast and smoothie bowls which are good. Low on bakery items. Owner roasts his own coffee which is also for sale and quite good. This seems not to be advertised so much. Most people I mention this fact to seem surprised. With some tweaks this place could bloom into a hotspot but the hours are too short (closes at 4pm) and the interior would use a refresh. High schoolers cant make it in time and thats a shame since thats a lost customer base. What was once a separate area with a large table and chairs perfect for gaming is now a dump for unused shop equipment. I'm not sure what plans if any the owner has but I hope he realizes how much the place means to the area. Would be nice to see it grow and evolve. It's a nice little gem but but with way too short hours. read more

I LOVE Strange Brew! This unassuming strip mall coffee shop has become my go-to spot for meeting a friend, getting some work done, or just treating myself to a special drink on a blah day. The employees are so friendly and helpful, and everything I've ordered -- from cookies and iced coffee to avocado toast and specialty lattes -- has been delicious. Plus, the menu is super cute and the vibe is laid back and unpretentious. I actually live across the street (walking distance) to another popular local shop and I will get in my car and drive to Strange Brew rather than walk to the nearby shop. This coffee shop is hard to spot, as it's in a dinky plaza and there's only a banner sign on the inside. However, it's worth finding. Strange but funky interior. Good seating, along with a good selection of board games and books. I appreciate that the music wasn't too loud. Service was friendly enough. Good selection of drinks and toast. We ordered a cappuccino and a wildflower latte (lavender and vanilla). I would have liked a thicker layer of milk foam on the capp, but otherwise it was great. The espresso had a nice roastiness and only a little acidity. My wife enjoyed her latte. The foam was thick and flavorful. The drinks took a while to come out, but they delivered straight to our table and the drinks were served in reusable drinkware. Nice from a sustainability perspective. Pricing was very reasonable. My only down fall was it was cold inside. With us living in Chicago and it being 14 degrees today, I wanted to come somewhere warm. I ordered the something in the whey and made alterations. I have been coming here for a few years and it honestly never disappoints! Whenever we plan any biking routes on this side of the neighborhood, we always make sure to stop here along the way for a quick pick me up. I have had a few of their latte's and every single one has always been delicious - one of the few places where you can tell they input special attention to all aspects of the latte - the espresso shot, the milk, the temp, and of course, the beautiful and clean latte art (id like to think having latte art makes the drink taste better). Although I usually only stick to 1 - 2 of their toasts (both of which are DELICIOUS and VERY filling), my friends have gotten other things and everything always looks delicious and fresh! My personal favorite is the toast with the peanut butter, honey, almonds (i think its the elvis?). Not sure where they get their baked goods, including the bread used for the toast, but that is also delicious and its very apparent they go out out of their way to get some great toast and donuts. Next time you guys are about to take a hike or bike ride around, be sure to check this place out! read more

Checked to see what other yelpers where saying about this coffeehouse , and its true that the food and coffee are top notch . The outside is a nondescript facade that made me think I was at the wrong place . The inside is spacious and boring . Those metal chairs don't have that comfortable relax and enjoy yourself feel to me . There is a group of four leather lounge chairs that redeem the experience of relaxation . Had two smoothie bowls that where unique and flavorful . The Bluebarry Hill has a hint of lavender oil and the Banana Rama has a boost of cocoa powder that makes both bowls pop . We ordered an espresso shot and a regular coffee, nothing special it was decent. Friendly staff. I am hoping this local coffee shop will last. The only thing I would like to see improved is the overall cleanliness of this place. We went there early morning on New years day, the floors didn't seemed that it was cleaned and both bathrooms needed more attention/scrubbing/dusting. Strange brew indeed! First let me say that the barista s are very friendly and welcoming. The place is clean with ample seating. That said, I cannot recommend this place unless you are under 20 and love smoothies. We ordered a green smoothie which was very refreshing and a dark roast. We were informed that they don't carry dark roast coffee. What, a coffee shop without dark roast?!!? We could not have a conversation because the music was blasting. I really liked the music but would have liked to talk to my husband. I understand that there is another Strange Brew on the Moraine Valley Campus but they are closed on weekends so we won't be trying it. read more

First photo, is the Wildflower latte, which includes their uniquely crafted Wildflower syrup by a Chicago woman-owned business (Jo Snow). This was made specifically and only for Strange Brew Cafe - it's so good and they sale the syrup! Did I buy it? Well is that even a question?! Of course! Back to the latte - the foam was creamy just how I like it and flavor delicate and just the right amount of sweet! Love how you can get it in one of their mugs or a paper cup with lid! Fun fact- if you like one of their mugs, you can have it only if you exchange it for one of yours! So if you need a new mug and tired of one of your own, take it to Strange Brew- you may just get a new mug all in one! Definitely taking one of my mugs, next time I visit! The Abba-cado Toast was super savory! Toast had just the right amount of crunch and the ingredients were super fresh! The Witches Brew Latte was sweet AND spicy! Got this for my husband, but I probably drank half of it for him! Lol , next time, I promise to get my own! Also, the foam art was aesthetically pleasing. Last is My Big Fat Greek Panini. Absolutely a five star café! It's a little tiny coffee shop next to a pantry in a karate shop. This little shop has more character than most big coffeehouse as I've seen. Your coffee is excellent and I had their bagel and cream cheese and was perfect. Another thing I'd like to point out is how absolutely nice the people are that work there. It's so beautiful inside with a splash of feeling upscale, hipster and just casual! Prices here are amazing and not grossly outrageous. Their iced coffee is handmade and completely phenomenal. I would've never spotted this place if it wasn't for Google. This cafe is truly a hidden gem. The menu makes it hard to decide what to get because everything sounds soooo good. I ordered their cappuccino with oatmilk and a side of honey, tropical thunder and blueberry hill smoothie bowls and their Elvis Presley toast. Let me tell you, that was one of the best cappuccinos I've ever had. Drank every last bit. And the food was so good! The ambiance had a hipster vibe to it. Very eclectic and chill. Reminds me so much of Brooklyn NYC. The service was quick and the barista was very kind and welcoming. I look forward to going back and trying more of their food and smoothie options. I usually make my own coffee in the morning. But I had a doctor's visit in the morning and had to fast. I was dying for a cup of coffee, so I decided to stop in to Strange Brew, which I had been in a couple of times just to get coffee. I ordered a latte and the greek toast. The latte had way too much milk in there. It basically tasted like milk and hardly a coffee taste. Greek toast was good, but almost $9 . I did eliminate a couple of items that were supposed to be on the toast. I really think it is overpriced and wouldn't purchase in the future. It's kind of a disappointing experience. I'm not usually a complainer, just felt ripped off. The bill was almost $15. read more

It definitely needed some sweetener but I wasn't asked for any so I took it home and added some and it was really good after. Hey Windy City... If you're looking to spend $8 on a burnt piece of toast I have the place for you! I spent $9 on toaster from Walmart (note that this is about the same price as a single slice from the Strange Brew) and I can make unlimited toast (or at least up to a year's worth with my included limited warrantee).
