I could go on and on here. Spent $450 to get a needle aspirate to see if my dog had mass cell (overall $715 for his yearly checkup) I get the call that the prognosis did not come back clear enough. Thinking theyd ask me to come back to do it again, they wanted another $450! On top of it all the phone 'drops' after talking to the vet about the outrageous price. My pets have been patients of Stratham-Newfields Veterinary Hospital since 1999. Dr. Dennis practices cutting-edge medicine, which my cat, Pandora required. She was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and kidney disease. Her initial thyroid test and the common secondary test both came back negative. Dr. Dennis did some research and ran a third test that indeed diagnosed Pandora with hyperthyroidism. She was put on a combination of medications and lived until the age of 18. Her last several years were happy and comfortable and I was lucky to have them. My dog, Tallulah, is on medication for spondylosis, a spinal issue. I never thought she would ever play ball again when she showed me the x-rays a few years back. She has been maintained on the appropriate dose of medication and her pain has been little to none. Most importantly, she gets to do what she loves most...run after the ball! It makes me sad when I see other dogs who have been diagnosed with the same disease and are still in pain. I have been going to Stratham-Newfields Veterinary Hospital for over 10 years with all my pets, and couldn't be more pleased. Most recently, my 10 year old Yorkshire Terrier Abby became ill and needed emergency gallbladder surgery. The doctors and staff were absolutely amazing! The nursing staff was knowledgable and compassionate, and the reception staff was pleasant and accommodating, especially when it came to my financial limitations. They helped me come up with a treatment plan that was best for Abby, but affordable for me. Abby was hospitalized 4 days, and through it all, they made sure we were both comfortable, and they treated her like she was one of their own pets. I truly believe there is nowhere she would have received a higher quality of care, and because of that, there is nowhere else I will ever being my pets. STRATHAM NEWFIELDS DELETES ALL NEGATIVE COMMENTS POSTED ABOUT THEM THAT THEY CAN. DO YOUR RESEARCH-ASK AROUND AND READ REVIEWS THEY CAN'T DELETE! This is a follow-up to my previous post. Just wanted to touch on a few other things I neglected to mention. Never once, neither at the new North Hampton Vet. Hospital nor at Port. City was my dog ever muzzled. Every single time he required any shot or even a nail trim he was muzzled or taken into another room as if he was some vicious animal. The staff at the other two hospitals couldn't comment enough how sweet my boy was, and how they couldn't believe he had been muzzled. When I had his nails trimmed at SNVH they cut him so badly multiple times he bled all over the the floor. Although cutting nails can do such, no other vet ever cut him, or took him away from me as SNVH did, so that I could no longer witness it if they did. I tried to post similar comments to their Facebook page, which they deleted immediately and quickly responded with pictures of their "doctors"/vet techs with cute captions about how much they "appreciate their customers". It was seriously laughable. How embarrassing on their part that they are so terrified of the truth getting out, rather than trying to resolve their issues with their clients and better themselves as a business. Since my dog became critically ill and I had to begin bringing him with me to work everyday, I spoke with multiple individuals, many who have or know people who have had devastating experiences with this vet. hospital. One woman in particular told me how the doctors there had told her family that her dog had an untreatable form of cancer (after forcing them to spend thousands of dollars on x-rays, ultrasounds, blood tests, etc.) and informing them that their dog had a mere six weeks to live, so they were forced to devastate themselves and even worse their young children. The woman, thankfully, sought a second opinion and found out their dog did not have cancer, it was a minor orthopedic issue! Stratham Newfields refused to compensate them in any way for their gross misdiagnosis, nor the thousands of dollars spent. I was horrified. After a month long battle at Port. City, my beloved five year old Black Lab Diego died. The staff there treated him as if he was their own, showering me with love and tears, and heartfelt cards. Even North Hampton Animal Hospital sent me a card expressing their condolences, after only meeting him twice. Yet when I called SNVH to inform them Diego had passed and that I was extremely upset because I truly believe their misdiagnosis led to his demise, and I wanted to make sure that the same thing NEVER happened to anyone else's pet, they never even had the decency to call me back, let alone have the decency to send a card. I had been with them for five years, and trusted them, therefore never looking into any other hospitals, and I will regret that decision every day for the rest of my life. Had they correctly diagnosed Diego with anaplasma, and had they not lied to me and told me that only ONE medication was available to treat tick borne illnesses, and that they didn't treat without positive results (since Port. City immediately started him on one of the other generic forms) and just as North Hampton vet. had said, it is better to begin treatment immediately for such diseases rather than waiting for tests that take days, I truly believe his immune system would have been strong enough for him to fight, but after a month of THREE tick diseases wearing him down, he had just deteriorated too far by then. I will be taking legal acting action against them, and encourage all of you who have had similar experiences to do so as well. No one else should feel the loss and heartache I feel because a vet. is full of incompetent staff, and such uncaring people. read more

I have to agree with Lou J. this places is soooo overpriced it is ridiculous. We used to buy these bones for our dogs teeth there, they claimed no one else in area carried them, and they sold them for $45. Not only did i find them in the area, but i found them for $10. A $35 DIFFERENCE!? We used to get his nails cut there also, that costed us around $40 also, more then it costs for a human to get their nails and toes done, we went to Pet Life in Stratham, not only did they not make his feet bleed it only costed us $8. We have been going there for years and one time in winter our dog was sick and we didn't know what was going on but we knew he ingested something he shouldn[t have. We took him there she did nothing and said just watch him, and she charged us $95. Most businesses if they can't fix something the won't charge you, especially when they do NOTHING to help and have no suggestions. We also used to pay for shots to prevent Lyme disease, not only did the price of these increase each month, but the dog ended up getting Lyme, we found this out after being charge $200 for a blood test, and they said their policy changed and they no longer guarantee these shots, meaning if you get these shots and dog gets Lyme they wont pay for the medication the dog needs. O and our dog had a lump, they told us to check it for cancer he would need surgery. So we did it 3k later. Then the vets at Port-City vet hospital EVEN Pet Life in stratham said "uh no a simple needle can be inserted and the dog is awake etc, only takes a few minutes and costs 100$" so not only Did they LIE they put our dog through all that and risked his life just so they could make some extra money. Which makes sense when the vets all wear Rolex's. Just take notice of how they always say "well while your here you should have this done" or "well we may need to also check..." they like to do every test possible even when they know which test might be the only one needed. Needless to say we will be taking our business elsewhere. read more

This practice is light years ahead of others. I have been to a few different veterinary practices over the years and most recently left a Fear Free and AHAA practice for this (also AHAA certified) practice and holy cow I am impressed. My dog's blood work came back positive for a tick born illness. Not only did the practice call me and explain about the diagnosis, they also sent me educational information and treatment information. The staff explained the treatment options and the cost associated with each. I left the call feeling very informed and like I had a plan to work with the practice. I cannot tell how much I appreciate this kind of TLC. I was also super impressed just visiting the practice. My 80 lb dog can sometimes be aggressive toward other male dogs. Not only is the waiting room big enough that I could get my dog around other animals without any issue, but the staff usher you into and out of rooms. It helped keep my dog calm and relaxed in a sometimes stressful situation. I've seen a few reviews complaining about cost. I get that, but I was so grateful the practice walked me though cost options and benefits of each treatment type. I do have pet health insurance (for years now). To me, that is part of the cost of having a pet. Making sure my dog is healthy is just as important to me as making sure my kids are. read more

Another visit for our little Princess with her urine infection. These people are so nice it is pretty much unbelievable. They startd with conservative treatment of our cats UTI (which I looked up the data, its very effective) to avoid the high cost of urine culture (we used to do this in hospitals as well, and all we learned is that 99% of cultures were useless in uncomplicated cases). They had to repeat the urine since our cat is still voiding outside the littler box, and its still infected, so they asked if it was OK to culture it, which I agreed, and we will start an oral antibiotic. They tell you the prices up front, its itemized, and very fair (and comparable). I will never take my "children" anyplace else. read more

EXPENSIVE doesn't even begin to describe Stratham-Newfields Veterinary Hospital -- HIGHWAY ROBBERY is more like it! Read below -- $2,012.46+ for a kitten neuter and spay and $304.28+ for unnecessary exam/vaccines! I recently adopted two kittens from NH Kittens (http://www.nhkittens.com/). Upon adoption, I was told and also given valid NH Veterinary Medical Association health certificates for each kitten indicating they had their first two rounds of shots -- on 05/27/15 and 06/18/15. The only thing that remained to be done was their rabies vaccines and neuter/spay. I called Stratham-Newfields Veterinary Hospital to get a rough quote on what I could expect to pay for the neuter/spay. I should have known better when they refused to discuss the cost, but instead only wanted to talk about their "AAHA" accreditation and how that meant they had the "highest standards in care for my fuzzy kids." Who doesn't want the best care for a loved family member, right? They indicated that in order to get a quote, I needed to bring the kittens in for yet another exam (kittens had previous vet exams on 05/27, 06/18, and also 06/28 -- each time, HEALTHY!) So, I brought the kittens in for an exam and their rabies vaccines and to get the mysterious quote for the neuter/spay. Although the NH Feline Health Certificate clearly indicates the kittens had all their vaccines (except rabies), Dr. Nicole Young indicated she was "confused" and said the yellow carbon copy Certificate was "illegal". She, therefore, told me she needed to repeat the vaccines -- and I left with a charge of $304.28. SHE GAVE MY KITTENS VACCINES THAT THEY ALREADY HAD AND CHARGED ME FOR THEM! It gets better ... FINALLY, the mysterious quote arrives. Feline spay for my 5.5 pound female kitten = $927.95 plus feline neuter for my 7.7 pound kitten = $780.23. IN A ONE-WEEK TIME PERIOD, THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ME $2,012.46, not to mention the future scheduled appointment(s) for their "booster(s)" THAT THEY ALREADY HAD AND DIDN'T EVEN NEED! Once I got home and thought about their prices and sales tactics, I decided to call Kristin at NH Kittens and get her opinion. Needless to say, she recommended that I cancel the appointment and find another veterinarian. Although it was a Saturday, I called around and got verbal quotes from other veterinarians on the Seacoast -- all quotes were at least 75% less. Ultimately, I got a recommendation from NH Kittens and brought my kittens to Wendell Veterinary Clinic for their neuter and spay, which cost A TOTAL OF ONLY $150.00 -- as compared to the $2,012.46 being charged by this place. Although I left a detailed message for Stratham-Newfields Veterinary Hospital as to why I was canceling the appointments, they never bothered to return my call or attempt an explanation. My advice ... DON'T EVER GO HERE! read more

Our pets are like our children and we want to make sure they are happy and healthy. Dr. Dennis always gets to the bottom of issues and we have had some strange ones with our dog. At 14, our dog still acts like a puppy (no one can believe she is 14) and we have taken her to SNVH since she was 8 weeks old.. We recently had an emergency with our cat and I frantically called ahead. When I arrived, one of the nurses was waiting for me in the lobby so she could immediately take my cat from me so he could be seen right away! In short, this practice is AAHA accredited and the Dr. Dennis is board certified... translation = excellent medicine and a very caring team! read more

This place is not only extremely expensive, but the staff is just not knowledgeable. I took my dog there for a simple rabies shot and left being told she should be put down because she had most likely lymphoma and was in an a large amount of pain. Also, there was no way they could vaccinate a dog in "her condition". (Mind you - this was the first time this vet had ever seen my dog.) The only reason I had gone there was because I had recently moved to the area and i drove by it daily. After informing them there was no way I was putting my dog down - she still ate played and was the same dog I had always known, they then pushed me to spend 800 dollars in blood work. I left there with two pain medications that cost 200 dollars a month - not an issue because i just want my dog comfortable, but i just never really had a good feeling about the visit. I took my dog back to my previous vet a month later. ( 2 hours away). Not only did they find absolutely no evidence of what was stated from Stratham Newfields, but they instead found that she was on a dose of narcotic that was WAY too high and all that was needed was an anti anflamitory. My dog has since gained weight, and is doing 10x better than she was after her visit to Stratham. She also recieved her vaccination and is doing just fine, better actually. Also, the medication that I was spending 200 dollars a month on, would have cost me 68 a month for the same dose at my previous vet. I cant say enough poor things about this place. It was a terrible experience and i left there feeling like all they wanted was money out of me and had no interest in anything else. I would NEVER take another animal back to these idiots. read more

I used this vet for routine care and emergencies for my two cats for over 10 years. I was always satisfied with the service and the care of my pets. I liked that I was welcome in the exam room and it was always clean and the vet and techs were always nice to my cats. When one cat had a stroke at 15 years and the other had organ failure at 17 years, Dr. Dennis and her staff were gentle and kind and attentive during euthanasia. Now a few years later, we have adopted bunnies, so this was the first vet I called. Unfortunately, they do not specialize on small pets such as bunnies, so they had to decline. For cats, I definitely recommend Dr. Dennis, Stratham-Newfields. read more

SNVH has cared for our 6 pets over the past 7 years; we've had chronic illnesses, emergency surgeries, and complicated diagnoses. The staff is wonderful, caring and friendly, but their highest priority is the health and well being of the animals in their care. Some reviewers may have found them to be expensive, but high quality care, current technology, lab tests and medications aren't any cheaper to administer to animals than to people. I appreciate that they recommend the ideal treatment, but will help to find the best solution if the ideal treatment isn't in your budget. I am in the medical field and have found Dr Dennis to be one of the most dedicated and knowledgable doctors I have ever met. read more

My Burmese kitty needed serious, complicated eye surgery. It was performed successfully by Dr. Dennis. The entire staff has shown more love and care for Blossom than I could imagine. My dog developed an ear infection so I called different vets nearby to try to get her in the same day or at least the next day to get her on meds. 3 vets told me that because she was not a regular patient they couldn't see my dog for over a week! Stratham-Newfields Vet not only got me in the same day but they really seemed to care for my sick dog. They got her on a course of antibiotics and ear cleaner and her ear is already doing much better. They were very thorough and even noticed that she was nervous (not from the vet, from the thunderstorm going on when we were there) and they gave me some anti-anxiety wipes that emit a soothing scent. They were a little pricey, which is why I only gave them 4 stars, but they really did come through for Boo and me in a pinch!! read more

if it were possible to give zero stars i would..i should have listened to my neighbors who told me upon moving in that this vets office was geared toward bilking the customer out of money to keep up its fancy office..on three occasions i was told that two of my pets was ill with disease that required hundreds of dollars worth of in house care...i risked it and took the animals home with meds and both times the animals got completely better..i would have been out thousands on both combined..the dr. was not knowledgable (i think she is no longer there) but the bottom line is that this place is more interested in the almighty dollar more than the pets they treat..sad..i actually drive 5 miles down the road to a different vet though these people are closer..thats how little i trust them! read more

I had been bringing my two cats, Pyewacket and Nigel to SNVH and I cannot stress enough of how happy and satisfied I am with the professional and compassionate treatment they received there. All costs for procedures were itemized and mentioned prior to the procedure. I was never pressured to have any of these procedures done. Recently Nigel was diagnosed with a terminal condition. During the time he had left, Nigel was made comfortable and when it was time to let him go, it was done compassionately. Both Dr. Dennis and Dr. Young were supportive and treated my precious companion with respect and care. The vet nurses, administrative staff, George: awesome. As for cost, I agree with Deb Y. when she mentions that you get what you pay for. I never felt as if any of the care my animals received was overpriced. I brought my english bulldog in an they said the health check through was $66.18 when I got a call they said what they needed for the health check and when I got the bill it was over $100 mind you that there was not worming or shots involved what so ever. Just a check over. They also kept telling me they knew best on her diet even though I have her on what Vets who specialize in diets told me was best for her. They also pretty much ran into the room an checked to see if she was chipped to find out if she was stolen. Even though I brought in her papers which included my contract from the breeder her self and AKC papers. I think if they were going to be ranking in the money on adding things in with out my permission, requested aggressive dogs to wear a muzzle (as one owner hearing his dog growling tried to approach my 1yr old daughter, the puppy and I) and not accusing me of stealing my dog that I spent so much on from the breeder her self. I would have probably had a better experience but I dont think I will be coming back for her next puppy shots. I wish they were more then just for the money. As they stated I should schedule her for a operation on her nose even though she is breathing fine and due to her show lines I have seen no dogs in her bloodline needing or having the operation. read more
