The owner is pompous ass hole who still thinks he's int the glory days..or Jim Crow who knows. I witnessed him berate a young kid who just need a simple part so he could fix his board. The owner insisted he do it and then acted like he wanted him to pay afterwards. He insulted the kid kicked him and threw a coffee at him. Worst experience every! I attempted to go to this shop to purchase a skateboard for my son. However, that was abruptly brought to a disturbing halt. Due to the extremely rude and blatantly prejudice sales clerk that un-greeted us! We were ignored, dismissed then told to look online and then clerk proceeded to turn his back. However, conveniently while we foolishly went on our phones to search inventory two "non-ethnic" gentlemen approached just as we did and were greeted "whats up brothers". They just don't get it. Skateembarrassmentboarding is fun when you are selling fun and a sport you should love business is a pleasure and you spread the love of the sport. What an embarrassment to the industry and a great sport. These folks are serious assholes. All the comments on here say the same thing. Spot on. My kid called them to inquire about what kind of decks they had. Who doesn't know what Santa Cruz and Powell Perelta is? Needless to say I asked some questions about what they had compapred to the boards I grew up riding. The guy was a jerk and then the the call just went silent I think he put the phone down. Stratosphere is a L5Ps staple. Although the shop location has changed a few times over the years, it continues to improve and remain a true local skate shop for skaters by skaters. The shoe selection is like no other thanks to the close relationships Stratosphere has formed with vendors over decades. This shop is run by a former pro-skater and his skate crew, which includes his pro-skater son who skates around the world for teams like Nike, so they know what's up. If you're a real skater this is the store you go to. If you're from the burbs doing the "weekend lookey-lu" as another reviewer wrote, this store is not for you - unless you plan on buying clothes or shoes. PS: The owner is "the guy" who made the new Historic Fourth Ward Skatepark happen, so major respect! read more

It was the manager - talking to us like we were 30 years old. So immature. Really do not recommend - I even bought a board there a couple months back. Really wish I hadn't. Inspired by the new Historic Fourth Ward Skatepark, I decided to pick up a board and mess around a bit. I went to Stratosphere and I have to admit, the staff didn't seem too interested in me when I first walked in. But whatever, they probably don't have many 37 year old dudes buying stuff so they probably thought I was just some curious looky-loo from the suburbs out for a Sunday drive who decided to go "check out all the weird stuff down in that little five points place". But once I started asking about decks and stuff, the kid behind the counter started getting into it, offering advice on stuff like which truck widths would work best for the board I liked and which wheels would roll well in the skatepark, etc... I haven't skated in over 10 years and am out of touch so it was cool having someone knowledgable give me the scoop. I walked out with a new complete board and was in the skatepark later that night. I wish I could say I was tearing it up but I was not. But the board is great! read more

This is a great little skate shop in Little Five Points. They carry decks, trucks, etc, as you would expect a skate shop to carry, along with a fair amount of clothes, and awesome sneaker selection, and various other accessories like bags. It's an independent shop, and the guys who work there seem very cool. They seem to know their stuff, and you can often find them skating around L5P and in front of the store. In Little Five Points, this store has been around seemingly forever in a landscape of changing retail. (I miss More Dusty than Digital which used to be next door.) I have purchased several items here, ranging from sneakers to a laptop bag, and have always had a good experience. read more

We went in today and the guys at the front of the store looked the other way when me and my kids came in the store... no hello or anything and we even got to the back of the store and the guy behind the counter wouldn't say absolutely nothing... even as we left to walk out they treated us as if we were transparent... I was looking to get a new cruiser board (I've been trying to do slides on my longboard but I haven't been getting it so I thought maybe a shorter board would help). The guy definitely had the opportunity to sell me stuff I didn't need just to make money, but he really helped me out. He told me what I was probably doing wrong, and recommended some harder wheels (I usually use soft ones but they don't like to carve). I expected to be treated with an upturned nose because I'm a college-aged girl who skates (and sometimes the guys think girls are posers), but I was not, and that made me feel better. read more

Are y'all talking about Mouse? I grew up riding at the ramp ranch with him and TK and all them. Mouse is as cool as they come, he is the real deal. He was the only real shop around for years. We had street skate competitions in Zesto's parking lot, they were the only place willing to host it.. People hated skateboarding back then, and folks like Mouse helped to keep the sport alive. The guys in here are douche bags. I asked to use a tool to rethread my trucks and the guy told me I could either buy the tool or pay him to do it.. what the fuck? Do I have to pay you to grip my board? Do I have to pay you to tighten my trucks? I get being a core shop, but that doesn't mean you've gotta be rude. Especially because judging by the overweight guy being rude to me, I would guess I'm a lot better at skating than him. Will never return. read more

Go to the mall if you want all that (mall grabbers) Strat reminds me of FogTown Skateshop (back in my salad days), a skateshop ran by skaters. i like to go there to read the zines, hang out and watch videos. i find the staff hella knowledgable, funny and weird. if they're rude, so what! throw it back at 'em. trust me they can handle it. but I can tell you this....you will walk out with a sweet setup. I had previously left a very negative review when I went in dealt with the owner and said I would never go again.well life is full of second chances and I went back in again and had a completely different experience.maybe the owner was having a bad day but he had two employees there that were extremely good to deal with and made my experience very positive. I came back in today and bought another board I was treated really good by the same employee who was there the last time I went. Great local skate shop in Little Five Points that feels like it's been around practically forever. It's a real skate shop, independently owned and operated. It's definitely not a manufactured, mall skate shop like you would find dotting the landscape in the suburbs. I have never felt so insulted in my life. My son is new to skateboarding and I thought I could go to a local skateshop to get advice on what would be good for him. The atmosphere was stale to begin with, no one was eager to help my son and I. Finally I talk the older guy into helping me. He immediately went into "we don't sell anything for less than a hundred bucks and those are the boards we just build and we've sold out for the weekend". I just shrugged it off because I'm here for my son. I asked him a question, this time it was "we don't sell toys". That's when I lost it. I told him I'm not in there to buy toys nor did I ask him about how much they cost. I calmed down because my son was there, but I have never been so disrespected in my life. His condescending tone and attitude made me walk out without purchasing anything. I went to your competitors and spent close to 500 bucks on 2 boards, pads and new helmet the whole gambit because I only buy the best for my son and I spare no expense. I will never ever ever step foot in stratosphere again... Ever.... read more
