The Straw Hat is a small, local ice cream shop near downtown North East. It features Perry's ice cream as well as Penn State ice cream from the Berkey Creamery. See the attached pics. The small scoops are huge so be sure you are hungry enough to eat a medium or more. They also have soft serve ice cream as well as a plethora of milk shakes and sundaes. I had the Grasshopper Pie hand-dipped come. DELICIOUS! There is something for everyone here so c'mon down and check it out. It's what old time ice cream times is all about.

Good ice cream (Penn State Creamery and an awesome local brand - Northern Scoop!) and friendly, helpful staff.

We love that they serve the Penn State Berkey creamery local flavors, and especially that the portions are large and the prices are reasonable!

W-O-W. This ice cream. The words escape me as feelings and images of the experience wash over…read more It's great. First rate. I've eaten a lot of fancy ice cream so I will designate myself an authority. The space is open, airy, laid back and a little punk rock. Family friendly with the Buzz Cocks playing in the backround. There's an 80's feel about it all in just the right way. The proprietor makes the ice cream himself with fresh cream every Tuesday. It's sooooooooooooooooooo goooooooooooood!!!!! NOT OVERLY SWEET. For example I find Perry's cloyingly sweet. Too much for me. Sprinkle Cone hits it just right. I went with my brother and his two teenage kids. Everyone was unexpectedly blown away. Here's the breakdown. Me: Vanilla and Berry Cobbler in a Sprinkle Cone Ethan: Mint Oreo Fudge and Reses Chunk in a cone Bro: Toasted Coconut and Strawberry in a cone Flynn: Don't remember 'cause he inhaled it! There was evidence of a cone tho Side Note: There is sidewalk chalk aplenty for drawing :@) Ps I head there's a badass indoor skateboard park in the same building!! Price: Increadibly reasonable for what you get.

The ice cream is great but the portions are SMALL. For what amounted to 5 small scoops of ice cream…read moreand 3 waffle cones, it was $25! Then they ran out of the waffle cones and offered us 2 sugar cones and $1. They also don't have napkins for people to get. I get inflation is high but come on.

We had our dog with us so we only planted to get carry out, and then we discovered a shaded patio. We decided to stay and eat outside. I was standing at the host stand for quite a while because I hadn't noticed the seat yourself sign. I had also walked in the restaurant and was looking around for any employee - two servers at a table saw me standing there looking confused but then just went right back into the kitchen. When another guest pointed out the sign, I thought well that's great but if we want to sit outside will they ever know we are there. Someone finally returned to the bar and we were able to get a server. We ended up ordering three appetizers - skoat balls, cheese sticks, peach Burrata. All three good. I also ordered a blueberry mint mocktail beer that was actually quite disappointing. It was also quite a charming little town! Would like to go back again sometime, sadly that is unlikely to ever happen.
