There are plenty of toppings to choose from and everything tastes super fresh. It's like Qdoba/Chipotle style where you pick what sauces and toppings you want then they whip it all together for you. First bite was a flavor explosion and continued throughout both the dishes. Yum yum sauce was on point. Service was quick and friendly. It is a bit pricey but the fiancé treated dinner on this night ;) A friend suggested their nachos which we will have to try next time. The space is shared with Gita Pita so there is a dining area that is in between both restaurants. If you felt like trying two places at once you knock that out by grabbing something from Gita Pita while you wait for your food from Char. Definitely will be back again and I'm glad to finally cross Char off my list!

The menu is large and it was a bit busy and chaotic inside, so I just went with some of my standards: an asada taco and a barbacoa quesadilla. I also ordered a small jamaica (hibiscus drink). They also have a cooler with Jarritos and canned pop. Our food was brought out to us at our table and everything looked delicious! The steak was tender and flavorful and the tortillas were fresh. I really liked the quesadilla--it was a generous portion and had plenty of meat. I'm really glad I got to try this spot and I'd love to come back. I think they do a taco deal on Mondays. I want to try their chilaquiles!

But it was very cold inside!! You order at the counter and they serve the food. The service is great! There is an array of items you can order from and on weekends they order specialty options like Menudo. They also offer catering. Once you're done you pay at the register. Note you do pay more per item if you use a card and the fees add up! Bring cash! We had the asada taco dinner - tacos were good but the rice and beans were very bland. I loved the tortillas! We also ordered chips and salsa which was around $8 you pay for the chips and salsa separately. We were not a fan of the salsas heavy garlic flavor but that's just our personal preference. The chips were warm and seasoned! We also ordered the chorizo and papa pambazo which was amazing and not soggy at all! We ordered an asada torta as well and the bread was toasted perfectly but overall it lacked flavor. I wanted to try the queso chili relleno but they forgot to bring that. If you want an agua fresca they did seem to be popular as everyone was ordering them. We had the cucumber one and enjoyed it! Overall we paid $45 for everything which is similar to prices elsewhere. I loved the customer service here too! Everyone was so nice and welcoming. I do recommend a visit!

Its such a convenient location to get to, the space is so bright and cheery, and I think they even have a drive-thru for takeout orders! I also appreciate that they have a full bar, though I haven't tried their margaritas yet. For dinner, I ordered chimichangas and my husband ordered fajitas. I need to remember that chimichangas are delicious, but I prefer enchiladas. That's on me, not them. I still enjoyed them, and ate all the leftovers I brought home! My husband really liked his fajitas too. Overall this is just a good, solid Mexican restaurant. The food has been really good both times I've visited, and the service has been super friendly. I will continue to eat here anytime I'm craving Mexican food, and will continue to recommend it to others as well!

I ordered the Molcajete, every time I ordered this it was nice chunks of steak and chicken along with Shrimp. It was served in a broth that was delicious. It was so much chili that it all tasted the same. Very disappointed. The service was slow and she didn't check back only once.

The set up and ordering is very reminiscent of a fast food experience, but the service and quality of the food is much more aligned with a full scale restaurant. My husband enjoyed his steak fajitas, but said next time he would get the flautas as well. We split a slice of Tres Leches cake with flan and discovered it was more tangy and sweet. Not my favorite, but glad to have tried it. We will definitely return if we are in the area.

We were greeted right away when we walked in by Nick, the owner. He is so friendly, kind, and his smile is infectious! He told us about some of the popular menu items and we planned what we wanted to order. Nate and I got the whole tilapia, jerk wings, and a side of plantains. Carly got the same thing as well as some other items to-go to take home for her husband. We sat down and enjoyed the bright and cheerful space as Nick started on our food. He was the only one working so we figured we'd have time to catch up which was nice. Nick asked if we eat beef, and we said yes so he said something about making us a traditional dish - ok! We're all adventurous foodies so we were excited. Nick's energy was infectious and he was so excited that we were open to trying new things. He brought out some flaky pastries stuffed with ground beef - sort of like an empanada. They were so tasty! The meat was flavorful and he encouraged us to try adding some of the spicy chili oil to the accompanying coleslaw and then eating it all together. The chili oil totally added a kick of spice that lingered but wasn't overpowering. Just a drop or two was enough! Our wings came out next - Carly said they might be her favorite wings in all of GR! They were spiced but not spicy hot, and perfectly fried. The jerk rub was a little salty but the flavors were great. I would definitely get them again. The plantains were some of the best I've had! Sometimes they can be dry or tough, but these were crisp on the outside and tender inside, slightly sweet and delicious! The fish came out last and it's a show stopper - the whole fish is deep fried to perfection and a huge portion to share between two people. It was juicy and not overcooked, with beans, rice, and an herbaceous green sauce to drizzle over everything. I loved trying this fun hole in the wall spot with delicious food - I encourage you to try it too! It's unique and interesting, with flavors you don't find everywhere. Plus, Nick is so wonderful and truly made me feel like I was an old friend dining at his home. I can't wait to try the chicken and pasta dishes!

We ordered the tilapia, the fried turkey, and were also sold of the chocolate cake for dessert (definitely not a mistake). The tilapia was really great. The batter was well spiced but not spicy. (If you like spicy ask for the spicy drops and he will bring a house made oil to the table.) The turkey was equally delicious! Turkey is often dry but they did a great job with it. Both entrees came with plantains and rice and beans, both delicious. The plantains were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, just perfect! And the rice and beans were well seasoned and perfectly fluffy. Both dishes also came with Tropicala's amazing signature sauce. Bright green and bright flavor, this sauce pairs well with everything! Once this place takes off I wouldn't be surprised if it was bottled. #2 the service: the front man of the restaurant is charming, charismatic, and makes everyone feel welcome. It's obvious he has a real passion for his food and seeing his customers' enjoy themselves. I couldn't say enough good things about him! #3 atmosphere: they have done the best they can with a small space. Tucked away in a strip mall off Kalamazoo, they have done their best to transport the patrons into a comfortable colorful space. Bright walls and on-theme decor compliment the mood of the restaurant. Though there isn't much seating, especially with covid precautions, they are hoping to include some outdoor seating for the summer. I hope everyone gets a chance to check out this new spot! It will not disappoint!

They have live music on the weekends but the restaurant echos very loud that you can't even order without repeating your order multiple times. You order first then find a seat most family seating options are right in front of the stage. Our toddler had to sit in a high top table where one of us stood the entire time to ensure he didn't fall. The high tops are either long community style or there a few 4 seat pub style ones towards the front of the restaurant but still just as loud. Food: prices are typical. You do get chips and salsa delivered to your table complimentary and those are delicious! Everything else is by order up at the front (even if you want water, refills, or are missing something) We ordered tacos with homemade tortillas and they were very hard and stale. The meat had good flavor but the tortilla made the taco tough to eat. We paid extra for cebollitas and a jalapeño and they didn't get us the jalapeño even after asking for it twice. Their aguas are delicious. The torta de asada was also just okay the bread wasn't soggy which was a plus but it wasn't super flavorful and had more lettuce than meat. We did notice one table had a server constantly coming to them vs them going to the front like everyone else which was odd maybe certain sections have servers? Anyway just very difficult to go with small children or just to have a nice meal.
