I have a 4.5 HP pressure washer that I purchased around the mid 1980's and use a couple of times a year. I took my MTD Chipper Shredder to Sam because I believed I had a broken dip stick that dropped into the crankcase. Sam searched for it with a magnet, and when he did not pick up anything, he drained it and used a camera to search for it. Finding nothing, he shook it and could not hear anything. He changed the oil, filter, and added a new spark plug. This job took him only 24 hours. Once I got it home, it worked perfectly. The the of the dip stick must be in my yard. I have a Karcher power washer with a leaking gas tank. I will take that to him next month. He will have repeat business from me as he is so knowledgeable, thorough, and a good man! Sam (owner of Smart Street Small Engine repair) did a great job with the repair of my Troy-Bilt Leaf Shredder/Vac. First of all, the guy is super nice! He is very knowledgeable on the engines he services, and he provides an extremely fair price for a job well done. I've taken this same unit to Dickinson Equipment, and I prefer Street Smart by far. The unit was repaired very quickly, and he cleaned it up so that it looks pretty much brand new. In addition, he provided a lot of info on how to winterize and care for the engine.....simple stuff....but things that will keep it out of the shop and costing me unneeded repair expenses. At the end of 2019, Sam picked up my Toro 22" Recycler Self-Propel Lawn Mower and a Snow Blower for an end of year / beginning of season tune-up. He brought them back two days later, started both up, and stated he added Sta-Bil to the gas to get it through the winter. It never snowed so the Snow-Blower wasn't used. In the Spring, I cranked up the Toro lawn mower which took several pulls to start (understandable). I cut the grass for a few minutes and then it started coughing and sputtering. Even the smallest clump of grass caused it to stall. Within 10 minutes, it wouldn't run at all. I called and Sam said to replace the spark plug; that it could be bad. I didn't understand why his customer satisfaction guarantee prevented him from coming out to check why the equipment he serviced wouldn't run after 10 minutes use. No, evidently that's a user responsibility, after all, he already had my money. I didn't use the lawn mower after that for the rest of the year (used my riding lawn mower instead). On May 25, 2021, I checked the Toro manual and bought a new spark plug from Amazon. When it arrived, I removed the one Sam installed, and sure enough, it started up on first pull. Sam installed the incorrect spark plug for my mower. The threads fit but it didn't fire hot enough, and fouled out after a few minutes use. He knew he installed the wrong spark plug and pointed me to replace it when I called. So much for his core values of Honesty and Excellence! I do not recommend his services! read more
