It's a great place to work on your technique as well as keeping in shape specific to the sport during the off season. Coaches are experienced paddlers with a passion for dragon boating. Even if you have never tried it and are thinking about getting into dragon boating, this is a great place to start. You will build your confidence and meet team members who are always recruiting new members. But paddling is only a part of the program. In addition you receive group training in the fully equipped gym on site with exercises geared toward building strength and stamina needed for this sport. Workouts and video analysis is e-mailed weekly for clinic members so that you can work on your own during the rest of the week. I have done two clinics at this excellent facility and they have helped me become a better paddler. Teams can rent the pool and gym to practice on their own at an hourly rate. Power lifters and crossfit athletes also work out here and although I do not partake, it seems to be a very supportive community working along side the paddlers in the gym. It is not a super large gym like good life or LA fitness so it may get packed during certain times or when the dragon boat members come to train. The price is quite good per month and the owner Andrew has different payment plans depending if you're student or certain months or adult. The staff here are amazing as they are friendly and willing to help out if you need for correction or other ideas for workouts. When I walk in I like the fact that the staff are super nice :) very welcoming and friendly. The machines are nice and clean. Since I am not super strong, the weights are just right for me. The locker rooms are nicely taken care of and the guests here do wipe down the machines after they use it. Also the fact that it's purple and yellow makes the gym extra cute! If you go to the tables near the entrance they actually have free pens (purple ink!). My boyfriend actually has the black card which comes down to $25/month and it includes access to all plant fitness, massages (btw u need to try the hydro massage!), 50% drinks, and you can always bring one person in. My gym membership is worth $45/month at good life. Planet fitness is so worth it!

This may be one of the best powerlifting gyms I've been to and definitely contributes to the reasons why I can't deal with goodlife any longer. When I heard about the membership prices, my jaw dropped - keep in mind, it's a bit pricier than your usual old gym membership but I can now understand why. My senses were overwhelmed immediately as I walked in - how the heck do you make such a small space look SO huge and welcoming? Tons of ER/Eleiko racks, lots and lots of calibrated kilo plates, premium bars on bars on bars, power racks and platforms for olympic weightlifting. This is a powerlifter/weightlifter's heaven. The equipment is top notch and definitely spoiled me - I just CAN'T lift with regular ol' goodlife equipment anymore! The community @ BoB is extremely supportive, everyone is willing to help you load, spot, cheer you on during a heavy lift - it's something you'll never quite find in a plain old commercial gym. Everyone knows what they're doing and even when they don't, they still do. Oh, and also they have ice cold water. Definitely helps during long training sessions. As soon as I entered the gym, the owner Dan welcomed me immediately. Mae & Dan are super nice and welcoming of new members, plus they train alongside while cleaning up, walking around and generally taking care of their members. A great hands on approach to gym ownership. Day passes are $15 so I'd definitely recommend checking them out if you're in the area! It is located beside Scarborough Town Centre and has the standard amenities such as pool and gym. It is very cramped and is almost always busy. As far as a gym goes, there are definitely better offerings in the city but for those who can't afford a regular gym membership, the YMCA serves a great purpose. Parking is plentiful as you can park at Scarborough Town Centre and walk over. The Scarborough RT line also is close by so transportation is great for this location. The equipment is dated and the facilities could definitely use an upgrade but as far as YMCA's go, it's fine. The downside is the younger kids who like to chill out at the location. For those who take their training seriously, this is a huge negative as this crowd serves as a distraction and obstacle. Additionally the lack of space during peak periods is a huge negative as well. With limited space you'll be trying to do your workout all over the place and will have to jump around frequently. All in all, it's a great gym for those who need a gym for cheap. But if you can afford a gym membership, there are definitely better offerings around.
