The weight room is always super packed. To me, the cardio room is awkwardly arranged. I have had ample time to "study" this. I think the ellipticals, treadmills and stairmasters appear to be placed haphazardly, but someone thought that was a way to shove in more equipment in a small area. Not sure, but I hate running and looking straight on at someone 5 feet away on an elliptical. They do offer several fitness classes, but I have not tried any of those out yet. The biggest draw here seems to be the basketball court - it is always overflowing with people. Bottom line - not a great gym, but has what is needed for a workout. Maybe this part of the Ft. Lee garrison will catch up with the rest of the installation's upgrades.

I work out here daily and reserve the right to change my opinion but for what I need and expect from a gym, this place is more than adequate despite the free weight area being small.

I just left the YMCA with their set hours and the closest thing they have to a smoothie bar is the water fountain. I chatted with the owner who is also a personal trainer and barber....multi-talented and very nice. The young lady that worked there gave me a tour of the place and was quite informative. The young man working the smoothie bar whipped me up a tasty drink with a scoop of protein(impressive)......to bad I live 3.5 hours away so I guess it's back to reality but I will definitely return for a workout on my next trip. They also offer towel service, shower area(I think), fitness drinks, special fitness events and personal trainer services, if you're interested.

Went back to the desk and signed in for tanning.....got to the room and when I walked there were paper towels everywhere on the floor and what I can only hope was tanning lotion all over the walls and floors. I should've taken pictures but hightailed it out of there and asked for a different room. I clean for a living but it's not my job as a paying customer to come in and do someone else's job for them. The next room was a little better. At least useable. I can't help but wonder where the trash cans are that they used to have.

There is greater organization on the machine workout area and a lot of new machines. The free weight area a good size and is nicely organized.The members are friendly. A great locally owned and operated full service club. The water classes are great! There is a lap pool and sauna. I highly recommend American Family Fitness.

She called NC YMCA to verify my membership, created a profile for me, and then told me in the future it shouldn't happen. She said that when I tell them "Nationwide", they will have to pull up a different system to look me up. She was very friendly and patient. The facility has been updated since the last time I was there. It looks more like my local Y now. The locker room was pretty clean. The pool was warm. I had a great time. I recommend this location.

Their tap classes are a joke, utilizing the same moves from Kinderdance to advanced. Their gymnastics classes don't even get to flips, just cartwheels, and their jazz is average. Ballet is good. Her business is kept afloat by a few key families which you'll notice during their end of year recital because they are in 6-8 dances a piece. There is a heavy focus on costumes, props, and wandering around the stage rather than ACTUAL dancing, and their recital gets very boring very quickly. But that's just the icing on the cake- don't plan to use your card to pay for anything besides the classes- almost everything is cash only. Their teachers play favorites, and those that didn't departed abruptly in the middle of the year surrounding a few rumors that were less than kind about the owner. Regardless as to the truth of said rumors, it is quite obvious that there is a LOT of drama going on and it is significantly, (and detrimentally), affecting her business. There are several costs at various times that crop up out of nowhere- can't be in the parade unless the OUTER layer says Dance Kraze, have to wear the right colored tights (and if your class has two outfits, it's different colors for each), super expensive & poor quality pictures, etc etc. The end of the season is BRUTAL in unexpected expenses, so just be prepared. It's also run through her friends and family, which probably has a lot to do with the expense. With perhaps one exception (Thank you Jason), her event staff is indescribably rude and disrespectful, in addition to being inconsistent. Gods forbid you say anything about it, because they will get in your face and try to power play you to get you to cower in submission and retreat. Or ignore you. Or try to walk through you. Not a place I will ever be returning to. And yet the biggest problem is the fact that the recital was held in a school with LIVE CAMERAS and there were girls CHANGING IN THE HALLWAYS WHO WERE NOT TOLD, DESPITE the fact that the dance studio was informed. Well beyond acceptable to me. We will most DEFINITELY not be returning next year.

Great Kids Program!…read more The instructors at MAW are humane, friendly and knowledgeable. They have the best children's program in the area with instructors who clearly know how to connect with and motivate kids! MAW has a very good Mixed Martial Arts program with a foundation in South Korean Tae Kwon Do. They teach a proprietary program invented by Grandmaster YK Kim. This is not a traditional Kukiwon-type program. MAW has its own poomse. Students are taught and allowed to punch from the start. There is less emphasis on elegant but ineffective kicks. There is grappling, but it is not Brazilian Ju Jitsu. Nor is it the "ground and pound" MMA you might see on UFC TV. They work well with all ages and abilities. The company is a very big supporter of autism.
