Worst customer service experience I've ever had coming to a gym. If you do not have a Virginia issued driver license you cannot workout here. This includes military as well!! The equipment here is a joke and it seems like all the staff has an issue or just doesn't care about what your goals are. Most disappointing customer service experience I've ever had. I have a golds gym passport and have been to over 40 different golds across the country. Kid with long hair up front on his phone denies me entry because my account doesn't pull up. Okay... can I sign up for a membership ? Response "No a manger needs to be here and one won't be in till Monday" okay... can I sign up for a day pass or trial so I can work out ? Not unless you leave your photo ID at the front desk..I only have my military ID and I'm not leaving that with anyone. So no entry and had to go to another brand of gym. I have read many of the reviews before posting my personal experience to sum of many of the negative reviews left. Housekeeping was a main concern of mine until I went to management about the issue and it was quickly resolved! Arminia and Valencia put themselves on the front line to make sure the mens bathroom was exceptionally clean! The management took my concern very seriously and fixed the issue immediately. In my experience in business, if management, owners, or staff is unaware of an issue, how do you who write such negative reviews expect anything to be accommodated for your needs? As soon as I voiced my concern this management team got together and got the bathroom to where you could eat off the floor! If you see gym goers treating the gym with nonsense, which is often and to the naked eyes, obviously has no clue how to utilize equipment and take care of it for the benefit of all, how is a gym able to maintain a facility to YOUR specific standards? Be vocal and approach other enthusiast who mishandle, damage and take up equipment without the concern of others. This location, although has times of struggles, does an exceptional job in responding to concerns and should be commended for that. Gym equipment being taken up by other gym goers is NOT management fault as there are signs to not utilize equipment for more than thirty minutes. What else can they do besides respectfully put signage up to be considerate of others? I am extremely happy with my experience at this location and look forward to many more gains here. The equipment is kept up well and when broken, there are things that can keep it from promptly being fixed like back order on parts, lack of a working culture, and possibly getting a brand new piece to replace it. There is adequate equipment for all aspects of a health enthusiast's lifestyle IF you know what you're doing. I thank this management and staff for the politeness and attention to detail when concerns arise. Arminia, Valencia, and the entire staff needs recognition for this and the nonsense of negative reviews, although I have unfairly sent one, does not deserve some of the negative reviews I read here. The entire operation needs work! From the management to the front desk. The entire gym is honestly one of the worst experiences outside the Richmond area. Equipment is usually either occupied or broken when you need to use. Some of the patrons are overly rude for no reason. The staff at the desk is sometimes unavailable or uneducated on a number of things around the gym when asked. "Personal trainers" at this place are meaningless because three fourths of the time they have their clients doing workouts that don't contribute to a healthier state of being. I don't know where to begin. I'm only in town for a week and I'm visiting this Gold's Gym. I travel a lot for work and I am sure to find the nearest Gold's Gym in the area. That said, this is the filthiest, most unorganized, and most unattended to Gold's Gym I have been to. I've visited at 5AM and as late as 8PM and my review maintains throughout both times. There is trash all over the floor (paper towels, water bottles, equipment), the gym equipment is rarely wiped down, I spend way too much time racking other people's weights so that I can lift my weight, and the restrooms are filthy. To me, what's worse is that there is no active supervision or management to ensure that gym goers are doing the right thing. There is no visual reinforcement so people just do what they want to do. This gym will need to develop a community where gym etiquette is expected and reinforced. The front desk staff is not welcoming in the least bit. The two stars in this review are for the variety of the equipment at this gym. Great variety! Be prepared to clean the equipment and rack weights before you get started on just about every machine. Tough to be efficient when you're dropping four 45lb plates from each side of a machine before you can even get started. Frustrating! read more

I came here as a guest to experience what it's like to work out in a Gold's gym. I know each location is slightly different from the rest and not all of them have the same layout, but the concept is pretty much the same. When I first walked in with someone who's a member, she would scan her card and I would follow behind. I came here multiple times already and I think there was someone new at the front desk and asked me to sign in as a guest which I never had to do before or knew about. Maybe before the usual staff didn't really care if I sign in while the new staff was just following protocol. There's a lot of equipment and I enjoyed the bike with the visual virtual screen game to bike and get coins while biking. I feel like the bike is kind of slow no matter how fast I'm pedaling to bike through the screen. They have your typical Stairs Master, treadmills, bikes, and weights. I enjoy rope climbing the most because not all Gold's gym have it and it really works your whole body. In this Gold's Gym they have a Cardigo cinema theater. They play some pretty good movies and I like to warm up on the bike or treadmill while watching a movie before doing weights. The weight room doesn't have many weights, but it's pretty standard. They do need to repair some equipment, refill the paper towels, and disinfectant spray that are used to wipe down the machine after each use. I usually come after 8 because around the evening is where people are getting out of work and it gets really packed. I considered joining Gold's gym, but as of right now I'm still seeking a gym that offers more. read more

After several attempts to cancel membership I continue to be charged the monthly fee of $29.99. Two months of being of being charged wasted for not going to the gym. To make matters worse I was double charged for the month of July, $49.99 on top of the $29.99 for no reason. I don't live in Virginia any more and was told that the old way to cancel is in person or certified letter. So I'll send the letter, but they can continue to to charge my credit card up to 30 days after they receive the letter. So they'll probably steal $29.99 from me next month too. Had the same experience as others on here; I tried to get a 7 day pass and then was told only Virginia residents could use a pass? I was looking for a gym to use for the six months I'm here. I would think that the gyms in the area get most of their business from non-residents with fort lee being 10 minutes away. Bad taste in my mouth now. This facility in colonial heights is awful. My husband has been trying to cancel our membership since August and been getting the run around. Today I called and spoke to someone who informed that I could not give me her name and when i asked for the corporate number was told that are not with the corporate brand and hung up on me. Call back and was hung up on again. Called again and was told the young lady left and they could not give her name out. It should not be this hard to cancel a membership due to health reason. Terrible. Find a better gym because this one sucks. Many machines are often out of order. Signing up is made very easy but when is time to cancel they make it hard. First the process is done in person, only the manager has the cancellation paperwork so if he or she is not in you just wasted a trip. I absolutely love this gym they have really outdone themselves in listening to people's complaints and added so many new equipment my favorite part is the turf I do wish they would bring back the climbing rope (without knots) but it's super clean and unlike other reviews I've seen The weight room might be a little small but it does have tons of weight options so that's a lie about you not having options here they have plenty and the staff is very friendly both days/nights they are also helpful if you need help with finding a weight or asking about a workout or machine Side note: the weights by the gymnast hoops and bar need to be looked at I can never find the other 15 or 12 pounds read more

This gym is a scam!!! I canceled my membership signed the paperwork with the owner in Woodbridge, VA and somehow my account was canceled and somehow I still owe. I started receiving calls from a creditor, and immediately called the gold gym and spoke to a person "Brandon" who said he was sorry and they will call the creditor that they didn't know how it was still open. Never heard anything again...now it's on my credit, and no one will call me back. this place is not well managed, and no one is willing to help...say your money and credit! read more

This is a very disappointing gym. The hours are good, the facilities are fairly clean, but it is, as a whole, the worst golds gym I've ever trained at. - they do not have a squat rack. How is that possible? What gym has NO SQUAT RACK? - the dumbells only go up to 75 pounds. I have been on cruise ships with heavier dumbells. It is almost like a hotel gym. - they have none of the hammer strength machines that other golds have. Not the end of the world, but still very disappointing. - the equipment is CONSTANTLY "under maintenance". It is odd. They have significantly more broken equipment than any other gym I've been to. I have no clue why. - no soap in the showers. Not a huge deal, but most gyms I've been to provide a soap dispenser in the showers. This gym looks good upon first glance, but if you actually care about lifting weights/ working out you are going to be disappointed. I cancelled my membership after the first week. This gym went down hill, it started off decent with alot o tf potential and slowly turned into planet fitness. It's no place for TRUE body builders or any type of physique competitor. The staff is lame they all look liker they hate their job on the night shift. The atmosphere feels like planet fitness and not like a golds gym. They have no possing‼ GOLDS GYM with no possing room. You can't pose anywhere in the gym because of the weird ass no shirt rule. Sidenote if you promoted a atmosphere that catored to those who actually use them gym to get better no shirt won't be a problem. There are atleast 6 other gyms in the state that are undeniably better for the same price monthly and don't have these weird ass rules. But they also don't have the same type of members either. Lastly, I've been a member since 2016 and I travel alot for work there are gyms In Virginia (vb iron, dmv iron, rva iron) that are true body building paradises. In the tri city area this gym had so much potential to be what competitors needed but instead they played the same game planet fitness does and tries to please the regular people. Tried getting a pass to just check the gym out for a day after receiving a referral email for a free WEEK and the membership manager on 10/30/19 at 11:50am would not honor it and said I either had to pay $10 or join. Trying to Pressure a membership on me. "It would be cheaper for you just to pay the dollar to join instead of pay $10 every visit". I wasn't concerned with the price. I'm considering a MUCH more expensive gym than golds. Not everyone's priority is price... mine was how the staff would treat me, the quality of the actual location. The customer service at this gym is exceptional. I travel often to Colonial Heights, VA for work and every time I do the staff is always willing to work with me to find a fair way (month to month membership) to use the gym and cancel my membership once I leave, so I'm not charged for any time after my departure. The past two times I visited Colonial Heights I worked with Valencia. She was clear on how the process worked, and what I would receive through my membership. I highly recommend this gym and specifically working with her to get your membership. I will continue to use this gym whenever I travel to Virginia. read more

Let me tell you about our experience. We literally just moved here and were trying out gyms in the area. Signed up for a free pass online to try out the golds gym here. When we arrived the manager wouldn't accept our free pass because we didn't have a Virginia ID (literally just moved here) told us we could pay for a day pass or sign a membership. I asked, "So you can't even let us work out for one day to try it out?" they said no so we told them to kick rocks. I can't believe a MANAGER is more worried about people paying for a day pass (when they have a free pass from online) than creating members. Can't believe how furious I am. I normally go to Henrico Gold Gym, from where I live it's six one way and half dozen the other. I'm dead smack in the middle and today I chose this location. It seems smaller than the Henrico location, Im not sure but I was a little disappointed for two reasons, one the cardio cinema was packed ... not enough treadmills, and they had NO HEAVEY BAG. Ugh, most of my cardio is done on the heavey bag. I ended up on a treadmill in the open area and then left. On a happy note, I forgot my lock and the young lady behind the desk allowed me to keep my bag in her care. Kudos for that! Signed up for a Free Day Pass online. Some guy calls me a few days later to set up a day and time to come in. I had a change of plans so I called to set up a different time and day and they said they put my name down. I come in, no one says anything to me. I go up to the counter and mention I had a free day pass and the people up front said they didn't do those anymore. They begrudgingly gave me one anyway and sent me on my way. At 5pm to 7:30pm it is highly unlikely you can freely walk through the area without running into someone. What I said I stand by. I will say that the manager spoke with me addressed the fact that they are a franchise and a lot of problems revolve around funding. He was respectful about what I said and offered the solution of coming in at different hours when the gym is less crowded I.e 5am or 10pm which is hard considering I'm in the military. That being said it did seem that they are going to make a conscious effort to improve some of the problems. I had recently joined the gym and was trying to cancel my membership. Similar to other people, I have been unable to do so. I stopped by on the weekend and was told a manager was not available on the weekend. I was able to get out of class earlier and told the manager was busy. I was given no time frame that he would be available. I left my phone number but never received a call back. I called again and told the manager was busy and not available to speak with me. Again, I was given no time frame of when he would be available. Went on a saturday morning to try out the Zumba class before deciding to become a member or not and they told me I either had to sign up for a day pass ($20) or become a member right off the bat in order to try out the class. Clean gym, lots of Cardio equipment. Limited amount of dumbbells that DO NOT exceed 75 lbs. DB benches are not sturdy. Not a lot of great free weight options, not what I expected from a gold's gym franchise. First time I have ever seen rubber weights in a gold's gym. This place is more of a hybrid version of Planet Fitness and a cross fit gym combined with one of those women's health gyms like curves I am sure there are good thing about this gym. They have a Cardio theatre and some highly sought after aerobic class, for those that are in to that sort of thing. I found it hard to get into beast mode with all the silly classes and plastic weights. I definitely prefer my home gym in NC but this place is better then the gym in my hotel. read more
