(She called me to address this and turns out the lousy customer service is on her part, she runs the place with an iron fist). Finally, this instructor "Rob" would not let me deviate from the weight routine at all and forced a confrontation. Look, I lift up to 3 plates on each side at the gym and need to level up my workouts. Doing step ups or a simple plank isn't going to give me any gains or soreness. Keeping this one short and sweet. LOCATION -- Junker Fitness gym is on the main floor of an apartment building so residents who live there have free access to use the gym equipment. It is located right off of the Cleveland Shoreway (freeway) across from Edgewater Park. The actual neighbourhood name is called Detroit-Shoreway, I think, but it is also close to the Gordon Square neighbourhood of Cleveland. CLASSES -- If you're not a resident of the apartment building and therefore don't have access to use the gym equipment, then like myself, you can pay to attend a structured class with a licensed personal trainer. They offer group exercise classes which include HITT and yoga classes ($15/person). The HITT or High Intensity Internal Training classes are my favourite with instructor Christa R. on Saturday mornings. I've also taken Curtis's class and he normally teaches on Wednesdays. I LOVE the HITT class on Saturdays because Christa is a great fitness trainer and the class is limited to a small size of about 10-12 people. The class is 45 mins long and involves using dumbbells (weights), battle ropes, sledge puller, rowing machine, jump ropes, boxing punch bag, etc. We also do alot of body weight exercises such as pushups and squats. Different exercises are done with each class every week. The HITT classes are offered all year-round on Wednesday evenings around 6:30pm and Saturday mornings at 8:15am. The yoga classes are offered when the weather gets warm because the classes are on their rooftop outside. I wish their HITT classes were offered more often throughout the week because that's how much I LOVE them. I highly recommend Junker Fitness if you want personal accountability on your fitness journey. This is not a walk in facility. Appointments are necessary. One on one sessions are customized to your own levels and abilities. The Owner Adam is caring and has created an environment where anyone with anxiety about being out of shape can be set at ease. When you schedule a one on one session Adam will determine your needs and then he will create a workout plan for you. Both Adam and his other trainer Will are Extremely knowledgeable. They both go out of their way to ensure they modify the session if you develop any pain or issues mid work out. I feel like I am in good hands and they offer suggestions to keep you moving even when you are not in a session. The facility is clean and very nice and accommodating. I highly recommend giving them a try if you want or need to get back in shape. They also offer Yoga sessions on site.

Upon meeting with the owner, Kate, I decided to give it a try & am so glad I did. Unlike past gyms I joined, I have felt totally welcomed and supported here. Every trainer takes the time to show you the workouts, explain the why, and are your biggest supporters throughout. I love how most of them have kids and know the struggle of the juggle between self care and balancing the home life. They maximize the time you are at the gym and tailor things to your capabilities, but give that extra nudge you need to step out of your comfort zone. After all, outside the comfort zone is where the magic happens!
