Keeping this one short and sweet. LOCATION -- Junker Fitness gym is on the main floor of an apartment building so residents who live there have free access to use the gym equipment. It is located right off of the Cleveland Shoreway (freeway) across from Edgewater Park. The actual neighbourhood name is called Detroit-Shoreway, I think, but it is also close to the Gordon Square neighbourhood of Cleveland. CLASSES -- If you're not a resident of the apartment building and therefore don't have access to use the gym equipment, then like myself, you can pay to attend a structured class with a licensed personal trainer. They offer group exercise classes which include HITT and yoga classes ($15/person). The HITT or High Intensity Internal Training classes are my favourite with instructor Christa R. on Saturday mornings. I've also taken Curtis's class and he normally teaches on Wednesdays. I LOVE the HITT class on Saturdays because Christa is a great fitness trainer and the class is limited to a small size of about 10-12 people. The class is 45 mins long and involves using dumbbells (weights), battle ropes, sledge puller, rowing machine, jump ropes, boxing punch bag, etc. We also do alot of body weight exercises such as pushups and squats. Different exercises are done with each class every week. The HITT classes are offered all year-round on Wednesday evenings around 6:30pm and Saturday mornings at 8:15am. The yoga classes are offered when the weather gets warm because the classes are on their rooftop outside. I wish their HITT classes were offered more often throughout the week because that's how much I LOVE them. I highly recommend Junker Fitness if you want personal accountability on your fitness journey. The day pass was only $22 which is really affordable compared to the other gyms I have visited. My husband and I quickly watched the welcome video and passed the belay test so we can sport climb. The employees at the front desk were very kind and helpful. The upstairs of Sport Rock has shorter walls to sport climb. Those walls are really good for warming up, and for kids to climb. We started out there and then moved to the taller walls on the first floor. Downstairs had a great variety of climbs. The beta on the lower-level problems was more interesting than climbing a ladder which was greatly appreciated. I climbed a 5.10+ which was a fun mind bender. Being just under 5 feet tall, I was really impressed that all the holds were within my wingspan. We finished our day with bouldering. I loved the boulder setting. There was a fun V2 cave problem I got to try. My aunt who climbed with us enjoyed the V0 traverses to practice on. There was great variety in the setting and a lot of thought put into more beginner level routes. Overall, I highly recommend visiting this climbing gym, and look forward to purchasing another day pass when I am back in town visiting family.

I haven't climbed much, so they helped me get my gear on. Rental and day passes don't break the bank. ~$30/pp for us, we brought our own shoes. There is a nice selection for bouldering, auto-belaying, and belaying. Plenty of staff around to assist in your belaying, and they will help give you pointers in general in needed. Bathroom/locker rooms are nice and clean. Treadmill off to the side as well, in case you need a quick warm up.

I truly hope that they add a platform to enable women to sit for entry and a place to pull yourself up for exiting the cold plunge. Upon meeting with the owner, Kate, I decided to give it a try & am so glad I did. Unlike past gyms I joined, I have felt totally welcomed and supported here. Every trainer takes the time to show you the workouts, explain the why, and are your biggest supporters throughout. I love how most of them have kids and know the struggle of the juggle between self care and balancing the home life. They maximize the time you are at the gym and tailor things to your capabilities, but give that extra nudge you need to step out of your comfort zone.
