The day pass was only $22 which is really affordable compared to the other gyms I have visited.

I contacted Yoga Roots to ask for a partial refund or some other negotiated solution to this problem, and I included a letter from my doctor. It was also under the recommendation by my physical therapist that I avoid yoga. I needed to contact them a few times to get a response. They finally suggested that I wait until I was recovered and they could extend my pass. However, when I contacted them a while later about this, they--once again--did not respond. One would think that since I had been going to the studio for 7-8 years, that they would be more interested in resolving this issue, but it became obvious they were not. If you are considering them as your yoga studio, you may want to ask them what their policy is for unforeseen accidents and medical issues. You may also want to reflect on the ethics of a business you choose to support. Yoga Roots has some wonderful teachers, but because of my recent experience, I could never recommend them.

Coming off a long illness and series of abdominal surgeries, I have been anxious about getting back into exercise and yoga seemed to me like a nice, gentle way to get back into shape. So, my experience at Yoga Roots has so far spanned their selection of more gentle class offerings: - Slow Flow: The most vigorous of the classes I tried, this seems like it covers most of the bases of a regular vinyasa class, just slowed down somewhat in pace. - Basics: Slightly less rigorous than the Slow Flow, a good way to get acquainted with the poses and how the classes run. - Yin: My favorite so far; this class focuses on releasing deep tissue and ligaments - which is exactly what I need. I'd go to this class every day if it were offered! - Restorative: The most gentle of all; poses are lying down and utilize gravity to achieve a deep, slow stretch. Because I am so out of shape, I was relieved to find this studio to have a welcoming and non-judgmental vibe across all four of those classes and with all of the instructors I have so far encountered. In every class there is a deliberate emphasis on working at your own pace and doing what feels best for your body. With that attitude, I look forward to using Yoga Roots as a resource as I make my own progress back to wellness.

Similar to their other locations, GrooveRyde rules. I first learned about GrooveRyde from a Yelp…read moreevent. Of their three locations, this one is the newest. Located in the Van Aken district, it's really an idyllic location. After class, you can grab a healthy bite at the neighboring Nature's Oasis and stroll the area to shop. Bonus: FREE garage parking! As I've stated in my Woodmere GrooveRyde review, SO many fitness studios claim inclusiveness but don't always practice it. GrooveRyde does. When you have a physical limitation, it's a giant leap to try something new and you almost always are disappointed. After trying my first class with Zosimo in Woodmere (and having him be respectful and kind towards limitations) I felt confident to come back and try Shaker Heights. I did a class with Jessica and she was beyond helpful. I arrived early and she was sweet enough to help me set up my bike and answer several questions. She was a great instructor and really loves what she does! Overall, the facility is generally bigger and sparklier because it's so new! They have a great gym, several exercise rooms and lockers to store your things. You'll love GrooveRyde! Don't be scared of cycling. They get it and respect your journey!

Absolutely love GrooveRyde. This location is brand spanking new and beautifully designed. Parking…read moreis free (amen!) and abundant. I can only vouch for the 50 minute cycling classes but reckon I may try yoga or other class offerings soon. The cycling room is a smidge tight (you can/will definitely hit whoever is next to you when extending your arms on the bike so be careful) but still comfortable. I love that the lighting is kept dim and the wall fans are strategically placed in all four corners. I also appreciate that you get to choose your bike of choice when signing up for your class online. The bike assignments are also posted on the class door so there shouldn't be any confusion upon arriving. Towels are provided (another amen!) which is incredibly helpful because you WILL SWEAT. There are also lots of lockers and cubbies to store your crap while you're cycling your heart out. Highly recommend you give this great workout studio a try.

Approximately 9 people plus the instructor attended the class and it appears that I was the newbie of a tight knit group, however the class and Erin welcomed me openly. Though I am relatively new to studio classes, having developed most of my yoga skills via dvds, the instruction was spot on and could be adapted to someone just developing yoga skills or to the more advanced and well practiced. I would definitely attend this studio again and if this was my home neighborhood it would be my studio of choice. After class Erin engaged me in conversation sharing a link to my hometown and when I mentioned I was attempting to expand my knowledge of yoga and explore more types of classes she recommended other options for me. I also happened to mention I plan on spending a week in the OC, CA area in September and she encouraged me to attend some of the studios there that she had great experiences with. This has been one of the best yoga experiences I have had to date.

She is an excellent instructor who is disciplined and emphasizes form, teaching you to be thoughtful and aware of your body. What really sets her apart is that she is both yoga teacher and life coach in one, without being too self-help or corny or inaccessible. I'm not at all new-age-y, but her classes really transcend your traditional pose/ stretch/downward-facing dog, and leave you with both a refreshed mind and body. The studio is small but cozy, and you get a feel for a sense of community as the classes are a good mix of long-time veterans and first-time drop-ins. I've also taken some classes at the Yoga Room which is an amazing facility in one of the converted Little Italy school-houses, but the quality and the level of detail of teaching at Green Tara in one of Karen's classes is unmatched. I've only ever done Iyengar yoga (minus the yoga class I went to at a 24hr Fitness once, which was so UNNATURAL and weird), so I can't compare it to any of the other yogas, but the perfectionist in me loves the slower pace and an almost cerebral emphasis on form. I have been to other yoga places, most recently the place on W. 25th St. in Ohio City. Green Tara Yoga is the best experience I have had by far. If you are a teenager or a cheerleader, or want to listen to calming nature sounds and smell incense, you should not come here. But if you honestly want and need to feel better--if you have body aches and want a place that takes these issues seriously, Green Tara is your place. Karen took me and my issues seriously and she knew what she was doing. This woman is an expert. I thought I'd try it for one night, and ended up signing up for eight classes this evening. I am pleased.
