NYU Skirball has fast become my favorite Off-Broadway theatre so when I heard Pilobolus: Shadowland was coming, I had to see it!! Pilobolus' new project, Shadowland is a mix of shadow theatre, illusion and modern dance, there was even some circus stuff. The dancers use lights and their bodies to project images onto screens where you think, " how is that possible?!!" They were able to create all kinds of animals, creatures/monsters and all kinds of awesome images/sculptures which to me were beyond magic because I have no idea how they did it. The story centers around a young girl who wakes up in her dreams. She wakes up to her own shadow on the wall...somehow she ends up in the wall where her shadow exists. She can't get out so she just goes into "Shadowland", and we go with her into her adventure. Cool idea isn't it? Well, I thought so. I loved all the imagery. I could watch it again. At the end they even did a skit about NYC. I loved it!!! It was the cutest dedication to NYC. I actually wish I could see that part again. It just went so fast. I recommend Pilobolus if you can get tickets and like modern dance...actually I was really into the cool images casted onto the screen. BTW, all the dancers bodies were pretty impressive. Everyone in the troupe has a perfect body. All the dancers look really strong. I've seen other dance troupes and not all dancers look like the dancers from Pilobolus. Pilobolus: Shadowland is only at NYU Skirball for a limited time, November 20 to 25, 27 to 29 and December 1 to 6. Hurry, don't miss it. Personally, I loved it!

Cool show! Had the…read moreopportunity to see this with a friend for discount prices, so we jumped to it. I'm a huge theater fan, and seeing this was a one-of-a-kind experience. I've never quite seen anything like this - shadow theater, modern dance, some "circus acts". Overall, I thought the dancers had a lot of talent - from their strength, grace and fluidity. The plot is lacking, but I don't think that's the intended highlight of this performance anyway. The scenes truly mesh seamlessly into one another, and I found myself captivated at certain points. I'd recommend you to watch it, but I'm not sure I would've paid full price for this if I could have just gone and seen a much longer production instead (this show is only 90 minutes).

None of those seemed to get me through the door until I saw "A Cat in the Hat" was playing and I finally decided to take my little niece and nephew out to see a local play. It's a small space down in the basement of St. Stephen's school. Tickets for adults are $8 and kids $5. Folding metal chairs are arranged for seating. There's a small concession stand selling individual cookies and water at breakeven prices. For the kids they had paper Dr. Seuss hats at $1 each. It felt like I was going to a school play and I loved that feeling. The kids sat still the entire 45 minutes and were completely enchanted. I have to admit, so was I. After the show the Cat and Thing 1 and 2 and the entire cast came out to meet the kids and take photographs with them. Next up in April, "Steel Magnolias", something I would definitely take my Mom to see. After that it's "The Fantasticks" in June followed by "The Addams Family". Best part: you can star in any of these productions! They regularly hold open auditions. Tickets are available online, by phone, or in person a half hour before showtime. They sell light refreshments, such as candy & water. I just recently saw, Beauty and the Beast and it was fantastic! They numbers were amazingly executed and the acting was top notch. Jessica for around 5 years now and she looks forward to all her classes (i.e. jazz, tap, ballet, acting, musical theatre!!) and loves to practice at home non stop. Their passion for dance and theatre is felt the moment you walk through the door but what stands out more than anything is their love for the students of Broadway Bound. We all felt more like family than friends. After I left Broadway Bound I not only had many fond memories but I had skills that helped me for my future. I was able to use what I learned at Broadway Bound as a base as I started to compete for the Miss America Organization where I won talent numerous times and enough scholarship to pay off most of my student loans. Even now Broadway Bound is there for me when I need to rent space for coaching contestants hoping to compete in pageants. They are truly as reliable as family! I love Broadway Bound, Mrs. Kastle, Adam and Shevaun for always being supportive and dedicating themselves to their students.

The theater is comfortable, beautifully renovated, and intimate (although the acoustics can be tricky if you do auditions there! It's rather dead.). Performances generally are solid, production values are good, and all in all, they usually do a nice job with whatever opera they are producing, and they choose some interesting pieces here and there. Ticket prices have gone up quite a bit over the years -- tickets for the operas will set you back $55 (vs. Met weekend prices: Front Family Circle: $42; Balcony is $80 -- sure you are up high, but it's the MET!). The last opera I attended had a ticket price of $35 .... and I considered that high, as I could go to the Met for less. Still can, obviously.....

What can I say about attending my very first wine festival? Well I'll tell you. It was one of the…read morebest experiences I have ever had! The 5th Annual New Jersey Winter Wine Festival took place at the Hilton Short Hills in Short Hills New Jersey. Music was provided by Art Sherrod Jr. which complemented the elegant and classy atmosphere that this wine festival exuded. Almost 150 plus wines were available to taste in a single night. The sheer number of wines boggled my mind. I couldn't help but get excited about the prospect of trying wines from around the world. Not only was this a showcase of wine but it was a showcase for other vendors as well. There were vendors from all over the state. Bakeries, specialty food stores, special interest kitchen equipment, desert distributors, even an olive oil vendor that is based out of Tuscany, Italy was present. There was no shortage of delicious food being served, nor was there a shortage of wonderful staff to answer questions and provide a genuinely good time at this event. Carefully curated selection of wines from France, Italy, Spain, United States, Argentina, Chile, New Zealand, and Australia were all present for the voracious attendees to try. But world-renowned wines weren't the only ones that stole the show. A good showing from local winery such as Tomasello and TMRW (The Most Romantic Wine) offering wines from the Finger Lakes region of New York were also present. After being handed a stemless wine glass keepsake to use for the night, I was able to traverse the wide venue and have a little taste of everything. Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Chenin blanc, moscato, Pinot Noir, Cabernet sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Port, and on and on and on! There was no shortage of wine that you could try! It was just an exercise of futility to try every single one, much less experience the nuances that each offering held. Before the end of the night my palette was completely done! Would I return next year for such an amazing event? My answer is: absolutely yes! This event opened my eyes to the wonderful word world of oenology and now that I'm hooked I only want to go further. It's no wonder that people love wine so much. The complexity, the vivacity, the sheer deliciousness of wines from around the world can truly make someone so overwhelmed. But it is a learning process and one that I am more than glad to undertake.
