Eric is more than a tutor, we had our son go through 4 other tutors till we came across SBL. We were so frustrated because our son just didn't jell or want to work with any of the tutors we hired. We are impressed by how well Eric engaged our son to focus and enjoy math again. My son is in the 7th grade...and felt math was either too boring or too hard...and started hating it. Eric taught Math in a very holistic way. He helped my son see how math works in a real life setting. Mr. Gil helped my son on his ISEE essay writing. Within 6 weeks, my son's writing improved a lot. Mr. Gil always made efforts to understand where my son needed help and came up with approaches to address the incompetence. Eric ( Strong Branch Learning) is one of the most innovative tutors we have had the pleasure of working with. He has a wonderful rapport with with my child and I think she would regard him as one of her favorite teachers. Eric has developed a great program for online tutoring. Eric uses screen sharing technology to work in real time with my child. All of the online worksheets with each of the lessons notes are available for review 24/7 thru Google Docs. A friend referred us to Eric because we needed a personal SAT tutor for our son. Eric's lessons not only got him ready for the SAT but it really helped his confidence. His overall SAT score jumped by 220 points! The lessons are online so that helps all the notes and practice exams stay well organized (which is another thing my son struggles with) and easy to access. Eric was fantastic right from the very start. He was very responsive and punctual. He made my daughter feel at ease and comfortable with his tutoring style. He tutored my daughter in preparation for her ISEE test, in particular the math sections, which she was most worried about. I liked that his tutor sessions were online and could be done in the comfort of our own home. The online format that he uses is very easy to follow and no different then if we were in the same room. She took the test yesterday and came out saying that the math sections were the easiest for her! She said that some of the questions they worked out together were on the test. Eric Gil of Strong Branch Learning is extraordinary. I reached out to him on behalf of a group of parents to create a pod for six 4th graders during their year of remote learning. Our only directives were that we wanted something that was educational, physical, and most of all, safe. I've been working with Eric for the last three years. Before then, I always had trouble doing math in a classroom setting, and would constantly feel lost and confused by their linear teaching of math, and the teacher's inability to adequately explain the process to me. Eric would explain each problem to me, the tactics that it utilized and why they worked to get the answer. For someone who learns more through understanding connections and reasoning, rather than applied memorization, it was so rewarding to finally understand a subject so often taught in the latter style. Eric has helped me with algebra, trig, and physics, but also just worked with me on my anxiety surrounding doing assignments. when i forgot to complete work with eric, I expected the reaction that was familiar, a teacher being cold or passive aggressive, some sort of reprimand, instead I got a genuine inquiry into why I didn't do it, and an encouraging solution for how to solve the issue. This made me want to complete my work for him, and do better every time. Also, it showed me how a teacher should be, and raised my expectations for my own education, allowing me to ask for more comprehensive lessons from other teachers. His advice and encouragement made me a better student, not just grade-wise, but overall a better learner. In terms of tangible achievement, after tutoring with Eric, my grades raised as high as 2 letter grades and my SAT jumped 290 points. My work ethic has improved and it's largely due to our lessons. I was impressed with Eric's willingness to help and accommodate my schedule and learning needs. During our sessions we used a variety of tools that he implements in his learning process which illustrate and reinforce what is being explained in ways that may be my professors were not able to as effectively convey. I absolutely love his creative approaches to help connect concepts that created an understanding in my mind. On days we were unable to meet we used an online tool that he was able to interact with me in a way that I understand the steps and processes for my test the next morning at 8am. I have used him many times during the past few semesters for College Level Chemistry and Biology as well as College level Algebra and a few other subjects I may pick his brain and he'll even provide easy to understand hand-outs that enhance my learning. I can tell he worked very hard and reviews his notes often and knows the material and is prepared with hand drawn illustrations, graphs along with explanations that simplified the entirety of the concepts. Overall, I am proud to say that I earned an A with his help, week in and week out he did a fantastic job following up with me after our sessions to grasp what I was struggling with to reinforce my weak areas. I can truly say that Eric cared and went above and beyond to ensure I understand my material in these difficult college level courses and cared that didn't just earned an A, but that the subject is clear to me and I am able to eloquently explain these concepts.
