Thanks to Dr Fukano and his staff, I have "graduated" from needing a valium and laughing gas to just laughing gas to be able to sit through a cleaning, cavity fill, what have you. Maybe it's the environment of being put at ease the staff has created, maybe it's because they know your name when you walk in, ask after your dog by name and come out to the car to visit her (while she gives kisses to them) even if it's been months since they've seen you last ... Could be due to how well they do what they do and explain what's going on, show you the cavity, etc ... Maybe it's how they create a sense of knowing that they do care and are there to take care of you in the best manner possible. For whatever reason... I'm starting to feel more & more comfortable going to the dentist... I used to be the person to put off going to the dentist for years, but now... On my last exam my hygienist, Rebecca recommended that I get a night guard as I have been grinding my teeth which has required restorative work. I was putting off having the night guard made as I have anxiety when it comes to impressions. I entered the office and was greeted by Jen, at the front desk. I waited a few minutes when Althea (dental assistant) lead me back to the room where the impressions were going to be done. She explained to me what she was going to be doing and how long it would take for the procedure. It only took her a few minutes to do my impressions. It was stress free and I was on my way in no time. Thank you, ladies for getting me through this procedure with your kindness. See you next week to pick up my night guard.

The hygienists are always friendly and gentle while working in my mouth. I can hardly tell they are doing anything. I have never had any pain or felt them being too rough. They also explain things very well and give good advice and recommendations. I see Dr. Christopher Perez and I completely trust him. He does great work and is quick. Before coming to Camano Island Dental a few years ago, I had seen a different dentist who had done two fillings along my lower gum line where the enamel had broke off two of my teeth. Not even 6 months had passed and both fillings had popped off. Dr Perez replaced both of the fillings and when my insurance came back and refused to pay for them (because I had just had them done 6 months prior) Dr. Perez told the lady at the front desk to go ahead and just take care of it for me. Wow, now that is caring service and that is one of the many reasons I continue to be a patient. I recommend Camano Island Dental to anyone in the area who is looking for a friendly, knowledgeable and trustworthy dentist office. Then, the crown had too much cement crammed under the gum line, another dentist had to fix it. Then, they mis- quoted me on insurance costs. Now, in 2025, I have a bone infection under the root canal, liquified bone, horrible pain & a ton of money to fix. I also have to wait 8-10 months to see if the bone will regenerate, or I have to have surgery. Why? Because this unqualified dentist missed a branch of the root, left it in, and it got infected. Stay away from this practice. Everyone in it is below par, from the dentist to the insurance staff!

And dentists terrify me. Enough about me, Dr. Fordham's office was filled with angels of mercy who found me a spot on the schedule within the hour. They were kind, understanding and listened to all my "wah wah wah" without judgment. I was certain that they were just covering for the terrible dentist who was threatening them (because really ... all dentists are scary, right?) BUT NO! Dr. Fordham was awesome. Did I mention that he was awesome? Furthermore, he didn't judge me either. For not going to the dentist more often. Which is going to change, because he's awesome. His treatment plan didn't include ripping out teeth or root canals or chaining me to rocks for monsters to eat me either. He gently, clearly and in real language explained to me that I needed to follow through with the peridontal plan... and if I did, I'd probably live. And if I do (and I probably will) I have a new dentist.
