This is a limited dentistry office with no options for the handicapped or elderly. The exam rooms & hallways are narrow. The cost is twice orher professional dentists. Drive by, look at the entrance, ask yourself, "can I realistically get into & out of the business safely?" I doubt it. read more

Made the mistake to take my son here. Went in to have a tooth pulled, nothing more. They badgered me and literally bullied me and tried to make me pay for 2500 dollars in dental care that we were not there for. Office girl, extremely rude. Dr doesn't care about fixing an abscessed tooth on 15 year old that won't pay him that much but insists and gets downright rude when you say you won't be doing all the other work. Money hungry, worried about lining his own pockets. NEVER been so disrespected and ignored at any kind of office before. We left and won't be back. They will rip you off and try to convince you that you need work that you don't really need. They only see dollar signs! I never write reviews but I believe this needed to be disclosed to the public. I am on TDY for the Navy and I decided to try find a dental clinic that suited my available odd hours. Platinum Dental fit that description HOWEVER I ran into two disappointments. I showed to my appointment at 1745 (15 minutes prior to my appointment to fill out necessary paperwork). The receptionist informed me (when I walked in) that my appointment is cancelled because the dental assistant is out sick. I got upset (but I kept my composure) and asked them why didn't they call me before I actually walked into the office? She stated "we just thought you could fill out the paperwork so the next time you come, it'll go smoothly." At this point, I just wanted to walk out of office, however, I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and rescheduled my appointment for two weeks later. Before I left, I asked her to "please inform me beforehand if there are any changes to my appointment through means of a phone call." Fast forward just shy of that two week time frame, I received a phone call from the office, thinking that they're calling to confirm my appointment. NO. The receptionist called saying, "our office doesn't think that we are suitable to provide services to you due to the fact that you seemed pretty upset when you left our office that day." I WAS BLOWN AWAY! I responded "Wait, let me get this straight. I am denied services because you failed to call me, informing me of my CANCELLED APPOINTMENT and that I got upset because of it? I got upset for your negligence and poor customer service!" She said! "Yes ma'am. That is why." I can imagine who would NOT be upset or disappointed if they went through the same experience that I have encountered! I have NEVER been denied service because of the offices' fault to inform customers about a cancellation. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS FACILITY. read more

Called and asked if this office fixed broken dental apparatus. They said yes. I went 4 times. They tried to do a cleaning, they did evaluations very painful xrays on time 4 and still no repair. After time 5 , I left called a dentist in California, flew and the dds fixed the cracked plastic in ten minutes. I called and expressed my concerns and got into a conversation that was based in high school bullying! Over 550.oo was deducted from my prepayed account. A 10 minute process than ne er happened, failure. Rip off. Terrible customer service. Dds was more concerned with bad feedback on media than fixing a painful crack....10 minute fix!! Failure. No wonder he was the only office that wasn't booked out for 3 months on island! read more

Dr Lai is a very skilled Dentist. I've been to other dentists and they seem to be afraid to tell me what I needed to hear about my teeth. My dad lost all his teeth and Dr Lai showed me the WHY and helped me understand what I needed. He will tell you what you need and not what you want to hear. So if you are looking to use only your insurance or if you want bear minimum you are basing your dental health on what insurance companies do. Insurance companies do not have your best interests but Dr Lai cares about prevention and optimal health for your teeth. His prices are fair and his staff is friendly. You get what you pay for and I want the best working on me. He took the time to answer all my questions and concerns. Platinum Dental has given thousands of dollars to their community helping people who needed cosmetic dentistry and who could not afford it. That shows that Dr Lai is a very giving and generous person. read more

NO Stars... I have waited 4 months to write this review and today was the limit... I "Bought into" the Platinum Dental Club for $240.00 in the belief that I would be saving money in the long run...from the outset I had suspicions about the place but decided to override them and continue. At the first appointment they took X-rays and and made up a plan for my treatment which included a crown and some cosmetic work. Dr. Lai came into the room and spoke to me for approximately 2 minutes, did not seem interested in looking into my mouth, tried to sell me a tube of $35.00 toothpaste and then told me I'd have to get my Doctor to prescribe Prednisone before my next visit ...on the piece of paper they handed me to give to MY Doctor, there wasn't even a letterhead ( red flag?) and now they were claiming I was going to have "Dental Surgery" ? Huh? My Doctor's office at first refused to prescribe the medication and I was confused since I needed to get the dental work done ....so after a phone call, they went ahead and I picked up a 5 day supply for Prednisone even though it seemed odd....but I figured - just in case? (I had previously let them know when I filled out my initial form that I was a kidney transplant recipient and already ON daily Prednisone ) Then I went back for my next appointment and nervously waited to have my teeth cleaned... First they took my blood pressure and said it was high...ya think?! Then they came in and told me that I would have to take Prednisone to have my teeth cleaned! I told them "NO! That's ridiculous" and walked out... When I got home after another wasted journey and an hours' drive, I decided to call them and demand my money back and to have my X-rays sent to another dentist. Evelyn told me that the X-rays would cost me $182.00 ....we went back and forth and finally they said would send me a check for the balance of $58.00 (..which they did...) I asked her about getting MY X-rays and she told me they don't belong to me ...but that I could have them sent to another dentist who would have to fax a request. They are mine - I paid for them so ...okay whatever! I went back to my previous dentist who requested from Platinum Dental my X-rays ....I had to sign a form for their release and wait....apparently the staff were exceptionally Rude and Unpleasant to the folks who were just trying to get my X-rays back to save ME from another round of radiation. After two weeks - today they sent - an PHOTO of my X-rays by email and I came home to find a phone message for Platinum Dental saying that I would have to PAY THEM $50.00 to get the actual X-rays sent! What??! Do NOT give these fraudulent people your time or money! After reading other reviews - I count myself lucky that they t didn't touch my precious teeth... I will be reporting this business to The Dental Quality Assurance Commission with a copy of this review and seeking to report them to The Better Business Bureau and Oak Harbor Chamber of Commerce. not even one star before setting an appointment tell them ALL of your medical conditions. otherwise they may denounce you as a patient and tell you it's in their best interest for you to be seen in a medical setting such as the mayo clinic. the person I'm speaking of is not even able to be seen there as the primary dentist. they refused xray or cleaning and then give a referral. they were very rude. just trying to cover their bottoms before anything happened. the disorder is not one that causes a problem. it's just kind of there.my recommendation is to stay far far away. I was totally ripped off by this dentist. It started off I needed a chipped bridge filed down and he talked me into a repair kit to fix it that cost $500 and didn't work. I asked for a refund and he said no only will apply it to a future service. All of the sudden he was talking about a new lower bridge that would be made of this diamond material and never break. It didn't seem right. When I flossed it broke the floss. He just kept filling it down to fix it. Next stupid me he talked me into getting my three top bridges replaced. He said they would break if I didn't do it. It gets worse. I was in a lot of pain when I had my temporary. There was no emergency number. I saw they were open on Monday morning and was waiting on his door step. Guess what he doesn't get in until noon and no one would even call him even though I was in a lot of pain. The gum was pinched because the partial wasn't put in well. When he got there he exclaimed your new bridge just came in and never apologized for the pain I went through. Still gets worse the new bridge wasn't right and didn't cover one of the teeth which is very sharp, despite several attempts asking him to fix it and all he did was file it like he always does. The bottom line he charged me $15,000 for bridges I didn't really even need or want. And finally he gives the worst shots ever. I am very tolerant of pain and it brought tears to my eyes and I was afraid he had screwed up my sinuses because my mouth is small and I had headaches and the top of my mouth hurt afterward. I'm going to talk to my lawyer about all this. read more

Dr. Lai, and I use the term Dr. loosely is nothing more than a liar, extortionist, and a complete scam artist. My husband went to see him for a tooth ache, which didn't seem to concern Dr. Lai as much as telling my husband he needed to have all his teeth pulled and dentures made. He not only said "don't wait to long or it will be to late". He told my husband he needed to pay $35,000 to get this done. When my husband said he would not agree to this without a second opinion Dr. Lai had all the girls in his office come in and try to persuade my husband to agree to committing to paying the $35,000 to have all his teeth pulled. My husband got a second opinion and all his teeth are fine and savable, including the one that hurt. In fact my husband believes the X-rays Dr. Lai showed him weren't even his. Do not trust this guy, don't even go to him or take anyone you love there. It is a travesty that this guy can even practice as a dentist. read more

I am totally agree with other people about bad experiences. Me, my family and friends will never go back to that office again. I had done my wisdom tooth remove over there, every things went well and made my portion of payment on that day. I did check with insurance company and make sure everything went well before i went down to there. The next day, Evelyn called and said my insurance won't cover the cost, and wanted me to pay by saying rudely like it will go collection if i don't make payment immediately. I called the insurance, and they said they just need narrator from surgeon for processing the approval since the billing is under pending. So i called Evelyn and explained about what she need to summit which is narrator, and she lied to me and saying that she talked with insurance people for an hour and nothing she can do, and she pushed me to pay all the amounts. I said i will pick up the narrator at office, she said no she did email to me twice and kept lying over the phone. Then i went to office myself then she can't deny her lies since she don't have any prepared narrator, but i said nicely to her to get that for me. She typed one sentences in front of me, and passed to me without any signature, unfortunately i saw Dr Lai and had him singed immediately. Then my insurance accepted all documents and things all went well after all. Worse experiences ever. Rude, mean and conniving customer service ever! In the end, she threatened me by saying that you are never welcome to this office and area. LOL for ass sake. read more

My husband had been going to Platinum Dental in Oak Harbor, for years until this year. He stopped going because of poor customer service and the way they took advantage of him. They refuse to give our money back, $490.50 for dental services they have NOT given to my husband. I went in there today to ask for the money back and was treated like complete shit. They started yelling at me, (I was already nervous as hell, for those of you that know me, you know how anxious I get when confronting someone.) because I was stuttering and flubbering my words all over the place. It was difficult to get words out between Dr. Lai screaming at me, quite literally jumping up and down and beating the counters while his staff (Mostly Evelyn, his wife) were being snarky and rude. I kept trying, and yeah, probably raised my voice, but definitely wasn't yelling. Standing there watching Dr. Lai, I saw an angry gorilla pounding the ground, jumping up and down. I'm not kidding folks, he literally did! Jumped up and down, screaming and pounding his fist into the counter. #5 and a friend of ours were both with me, watching him in disbelief. First, they wanted me to take down my unfavorable rating I gave them because of this incident, in order for them to give back the money. I agreed to it, I'm happy to take it down and move along my way, if they refund the money. That's all I wanted. I said so. He said the check will be in the mail as soon as it comes down. I told him I would rather walk out with the check. He said he wouldn't write it until the review came down, I whipped out my phone and said "it's coming down, write the check." Then Evelyn proceeded to tell me that I will be giving the insurance company the money they are giving me, to settle their debt to them as well. I disagreed, telling her that they owed both the insurance company and my husband the money both parties already gave them for a service not completed. Dr. Lai came out again, saying that this is going nowhere, just give the money back to us, in exchange for me posting a 5 star review on them. I declined. Flat out. Taking down a negative review because both parties came to an agreement is perfectly acceptable to me. Extorting a FALSE review from me is not going to happen. I cannot believe the temper tantrum I saw from Dr. Lai today. Talk about a giant 3 year old. I'm glad my husband and four of our children are no longer giving them our business. If any of you are ever in the need of a dentist, I absolutely recommend to stay COMPLETELY away from Platinum Dental. Bad customer service, bad dental work (Dr. Lai broke Mark's tooth further, causing a need for extended services and oral surgery.) just bad everything, all over. My advice, stay away and spread the word to your friends you care about. read more
