It reminded me of the famed Opera House in Australia, except that this one is at a crossroad, not near any sort of water body, and much closer to home in US !  Kansas , Missouri has been historically known for its jazz, classical music and theatre. It has this typical theatrical staging for an auditorium with all the seats facing the same way towards the stage, which is framed by an arch- this setting also has a fancy name - its called  Proscenium Arch ( pruh-see-ni-um - I had to ask google how to pronounce it ...lol)It is a non-profit theatre !!!!  Wow! Built to promote dance, opera, music , it is perfect for the city to live up to its reputation of being widely recognized destination for vibrant and colorful arts. It has two big halls interconnected with a foyer, its simply impressively massive and absolutely stunning architecture.  I read from the brochure that Acoustical considerations factored into every architectural decision of the building, right from the shape of the hall to the grain of the wood paneling. And also that it seats 1600 guests at a time. Located at the heart of downtown Kansas on 16th and Broadway, it is near the  city's Power & Light District, the T-Mobile Center and the Crossroads Arts District with plenty of parking within, but if you don't want to get stuck after a performance, it is better to take a cab here.

One on one street dance battle where the crowd decides who's the winner, red or blue, with wands that were handed out, narrowing the competition down to the final two. I've attended two productions at this theater, Spamalot, and Little Shop of Horrors, along with my…read morecousin. At both productions the acoustics and the sound system were so poor that we could only understand one word out of every five. I was familiar with both shows, which made the situation doubly frustrating. During Spamalot we talked to an usher during intermission. We were seated toward the front, and she said maybe the problem was that we were too close. It was a shame, because it looked like a great show, and I'm familiar with the songs, but if you can't hear the words - it definitely loses something. But during Little Shop of Horrors we sat in the middle section, and the sound was not one bit better! I talked to the House Manager, who didn't have anything helpful to offer at all. Now this theater is offering Young Frankenstein, a musical I really love. But I hate to shell out another $30 per ticket for a show I can't hear. I'm astonished at the 5-Star reviews here. What's the secret, guys? Is there some secret place in the theater where you can actually hear the shows?

I love classical music, dance, and crossover genres--like musical theatre, jazz, etc.--and the Series brings in the best of the best. Their prices to see international superstars like Kelli O'Hara are unheard of. Great for folks on a budget. Its a great series for those who don't want to just attend the opera, symphony, or ballet--they have a little bit of everything. Definitely a must-try in the downtown KCMO arts scene.

I had a 74 year old mom who's on a cane for over 30 minutes waiting outside the wrong address. Went inside found sound guy, he said and pointed to a lady coming up. The aisle was in charge. I told her the situation and she told me oh well that's their fault, no apology nothing just a oh well and I described where it's at she said SIR, I know where it's at my office is in there. Then, she turned around and left very amazingly rude. If ANYONE speaks to this lady, tell her a COUNTED 28 people outside the wrong address, means there's a problem, and a HUGE poster on the door of the WRONG PLACE doesn't solve it. ANYONE, with common sense, would've put the RIGHT ADDRESS on that poster on door so people don't think it's there at the wrong place and have to deal with the INCREDIBLY RUDE LADY that all she had to do was say its obviously a issue that i will look into it. The show says it's in RUBY THEATRE - WRONG THEATRE AND WRONG ADDRESS. BUT AMAZING SOUND OF MUSIC SHOW! I NEVER have been there, BUT I've heard other people saying they did the same thing in the past. There are plenty of cities the size of St. Joseph that don't have buildings this nice nor do they support performance art the way that the residents of St. Joseph apparently do. This theatre really is something to be proud about. Plus, the theatre has lots of free parking nearby as well as is walking distance to a number of restaurants! My only complaint is that Saturday's show was shown to have no center orchestra tickets available, however the entire second row was empty. I have no idea what that was about.

The seating is comfy and lights and sound were great. I attended "Plume" from local playwright Mike Rice as part of the KC Fringe Festival 2022 on it's opening night. A 5 actor ensemble that was a no holds barred 45 minutes of intense drama featuring adult language and violence - Excellent! Keep the kids at home! Besides annually co-hosting Fringe Festival performances City Stage is also the current home for Theater for Young America and KC Actors Theater.

KCMPT is an African American theatre company and puts on thought provoking pieces. JOB also has many other local groups that stage productions there ( music, dance, spoken word... ). The theater is open seating, but it's "in the round." The seating is on risers around the stage, so there isn't a bad view in the house! The theater is in Penn Valley park, just north of Indigo Wild. There is a parking lot on the south side of the building.

It's one of my favorite plays. With a cast of two, it's a big load for the actors. They were wonderful!! Both of them were lovely and did this fine work great justice. Wednesday and Thursday are "Community Pricing" nights so the tickets are $10 cheaper. That's great on the wallet. The theater is very nice and professional. The set was fantastic! Wardrobe and makeup were spot on. I am very impressed and grateful I made it to see this show before the end of the run.

It's older and the only disadvantage to this is the seating is not on levels like a more modern theater. As a person who is 5'2, I had to constantly try to move around in my seat to get a view between people's heads in the rows in front of me. I could never get really comfortable but that was my only complaint. If o were wealthier, I'd grab some of the box seats. That looks like fun! The show was fantastic and Carrington and her magnificent band performed music of resistance! She and her band did a twist on one of Max Roach's albums, We Insist! Starting out with the great Driva'Man. I enjoyed it so much! I know the theater is having an art auction to raise money soon of you love art especially local artists, this would be a great event to support. I'd love to go back to see more shows and plays.

There is a parking garage to the west, street parking, or public transit. There is a concession stand in the lobby and they allow refreshments into the theater. I prefer the main floor, near the front. There is a balcony, the seats are narrow, and they have box seats as well. The bathrooms are small for the size of the venue, so there is usually a line.

I'm definitely NOT the haunted house goer--this was not that at all--I LOVED IT!! The lighting, set(s) design and the music was freaking awesome and whoever does makeup and wardrobe are brilliant!! If you're a member you don't have to pay for parking and had I known I could maybe wait to the last minute (ish) I could maybe have gotten a deal on tickets too. Oh well. It's about an hour walk (a mile maybe?), but I kept stopping to take photos and videos. The performers really notice if you're taking photos/videos and play up to it, so that was cool!! While they would have offered a ticket for another time, had they cancelled due to weather, just know all sales are final. However, even if those new dates didn't work, you're kinda screwed which doesn't make a patron happy.
