Sky Meadow has been home to our annual knitting retreat for more than 10 years. We (16 knitters)…read moretake over the whole barn area early in April and stay for 3 nights. It is spotless. We cook all our own meals in the very well stocked kitchen. We find every tool we need, plus serving dishes and pots and pans. There is a large open area for yoga, weaving, spinning. We tend to sit on the sofa and chairs in the corner and just knit. The Wood stove, kept stocked by the owner, Miles, keeps us toasty and warm. There are barn animals just behind the bedrooms where you can approach and pat the sheep and alpaca, and hear the rooster crow in the early hours. There are several bathrooms and bunk rooms for 4. Sunsets through the enormous picture window are fabulous, also mountain views and wildlife. Walks on the deserted dirt road are peaceful and the trails surrounding the barn go through the woods and to a meadow. A wonderful place to rejuvenate.

First we did a snow shoe tour through the sugar bush with one of the guides. Beautiful and a great introduction to snowshoeing. We then did a cross country ski lesson and then had a blast discovering just how hard cross country really is. (Note to down hill skiers like myself, there are more differences than similarities between CC and downhill skiing.) We actually loved this whole experience and the Trapp property so much we came back a second day and did the ~6mi (10K) snowshoe trail up to the cabin, which was one of the more magical and memorable experiences of my lifetime. It was just a perfect day with perfect snow and scenery. It truly MADE my Christmas vacation. All in all, this was more than a five star experience for us. I would honestly like to just move in and sit by their fire for the rest of my life.

I…read morejust read someone's review before me who thinks "winning isn't everything" and "children should be playing, not training". My response to you is to each their own. My daughter is at her happiest when she is in the gym. Those girls are her sisters and she enjoys spending time with them. Her coaches are the best in the state, and truly care about their gymnasts. This IS her idea of a good time, and when I tell her it's time to go to gymnastics, she responds, "yay!" That never ceases to amaze me after 6 years of training (she began at another Vermont gym). I have never had to force anything on her, she has a competitive nature, and this is her passion. I only support it. When we go to meets we are the loudest and happiest bunch, cheering each other on, with the owners in the front row yelling out our children's names, and yes, we bring home titles. There is nothing wrong with being the best at something, and striving toward a common goal. If you have a little girl, or boy, that also loves gymnastics, I highly recommend Regal. Whether team or just recreational, their facility is top notch. They also have a Ninja Warrior training area that they recently expanded.

Customer service is certainly not their strong suit. I completely understand how they compete and win in area competitions. The desire and pressure I have witnessed for near perfection from young children (4-8 year olds) can only be explained as fierce. Maybe it's my belief and raising to believe winning isn't everything and it's all about learning and having fun for children that slants my view. However I have a hard time believing that these children are better off spending most of their day strictly training than just being kids and playing. Maybe it's time for parents to start recalling their own childhood and how fun it was to be a kid. Over the last few years we have attended open gym. The gyms has been regularly used at the same time by the daycare program and I have had the luxury of witnessing the strict structure implemented. Additionally I can't tell you how many times (a lot) that we have entered and only seen one staff in the entire hour of our visit. Many times this staff is a young girl whom I assume must be the owners daughter, otherwise she'd be attending school during the day. I understand daycare facilities fill up fast and parents are choosing more and more to work instead of staying home, but I would encourage you to do extra visits prior to selecting this location for your child.
