It had new carpet that felt clean. Even the bathroom looked okay at a glance, and I was quite amused to find the same sliding shower doors my home had in the 1970s and 80s. BUT: walking around barefoot, I soon discovered that the area around the toilet was sticky (gross!!!). The toilet had, at best, rust stains that looked bad. Paint on the ceiling was peeling. And the caulk around the shower and toilet was both moldy and failing badly. The area under the sink was very dirty too. And the lamp beside my bed didn't work. The breakfast was okay for a free breakfast, but didn't compare well vs. the offerings of peer hotel chains. The sausage was as good as I've had at a hotel, but the scrambled eggs, sitting in water, were very unappealing. I'd gladly give up the little can of Pringles and the cute towel-dog in exchange for an actually-clean floor in the bathroom.

When we arrived at the hotel, we were told that the elevators were not working, and our room would be on the fourth floor. That would have been impossible for us because I am 81 years old and am a heart patient and have blood cancer. My wife is 79 years old and walks with cane. There was no way we could manage luggage and other baggage to the fourth floor. We asked if we could cancel the reservation, and the desk clerk said she cancelled it for us. However, we were still charged $194.97, even though we did not stay at the hotel. I worked through Priceline to obtain a refund, but the hotel has refused to refund the charge. I also have filed a dispute with my bank. My advice is do not stay at this hotel!

She was accommodating and helpful with getting us checked in and situated. Unlike other Holiday Inn Express locations we have been to, we've been to a total of 3 on our trip, we were actually asked about our IHG membership. The room was great! Probably the best one we've had if I'm comparing it to the other locations we've been to. Plumbing works, lights work, and the room was fairly clean. The only thing I will note is the lack of lighting on the exterior of the hotel. The sign itself is lit and so is driveway leading to the lobby for the hotel. However the parking lacks visible lighting which can be dangerous, especially at night. Also for Tesla owners, there are EV charging stations located in the back of the hotel. Hot breakfast to start the day (though the pancake machine wasn't working but honestly I won't hold that against them) and we were even asked about our stay overall. One of the best nights of sleep we ended up getting. Another observation we made was as we were leaving housekeeping was already making rounds around 8:30 (we were staying on the second floor but we saw them on the first floor as well).

Moronic hanging of the shower curtain. Old, cracked caulk around tub fixtures. All stairwells filthy. Burnt edges on all omelettes. Too-cheap-tasting orange juice. The Verdict: Why would Holiday Inn Express allow this location to represent their brand?

I stayed one night at the Quality Inn in Sweetwater, Texas…read more All the reviews I looked at prior to choosing this location had a fairly positive impression, and it is along the interstate so that makes it better for my purposes. I stayed in a King Sized, Non-Smoking room, with air conditioner, tv, free internet, microwave and mini-refrigerator. This room also had a fairly nice sized work desk, sofa chair, hair dryer, phone, etc. THE BAD: I'll get the bad out of the way first. The inside of this hotel/motel had a strange smell. It's often difficult to figure out where the smell comes from, but I think it was left over unvented air from the continental breakfast earlier in the day. The layout as others have mentioned is confusing. The hallway where my room was located smelled like leaking natural gas. One thing I didn't like is when I was checking in, I asked about discounts, memberships, etc. The check-in person at this location said I would have to sign up online at the Choice Hotels. I had asked her if she could sign me up. She told me no, but while processing my card and reservation on their digital pad, an option was presented on the screen to enroll into Choice Hotels (who Quality Inn is part of). She pressed cancel or skip, presumably hoping I wouldn't notice it. I ended up doing it in my room via my cell phone and the Choice App. A big thing for me, was the smell of the actual room. It smelled like mold or mildew, which was most likely came from the wall air conditioner. Unlike any other motel or hotel I have stayed at, this room had the same kind of window air conditioner going through the wall that people install in their bedrooms. These kinds of air conditioners are notorious for mildew and mold. Another thing that surprised me was the toilet. My room had the smallest toilet seat and was low to the ground. Reminded me of a kids toilet. Smallest toilet seat I have ever seen in a hotel or motel. THE GOOD: This Quality Inn is in really good shape, the rooms are large, there were three full towels, an extra roll of toilet paper, the normal free toiletries. The windows could be opened about 6 inches. Since the room smelled like mold or mildew which bothered my respiratory system, I was able to turn the air conditioner to fan and open both of the windows allowing fresh air to come in and the funky smelling air out. To my surprise, despite being next to the highway and having the windows open, it was very quiet. This hotel is located close to McDonald's, Taco Bell and even a Super Walmart which was a giant plus for me. The direct tv had quite a few channels, nothing to brag about or that interested me. This Quality Inn has something I have often thought other hotels and motels should have. They had a little market area close to the front desk, it was full of snacks and candy, but it also had a freezer full of frozen microwavable meals. The pool is large and looked nice, the laundry room had one machine needing to be repaired, they have a nice and easily accessible business room available. The free internet was fast and my room had USB ports available.

You can't miss this place, the unique items outside rendering it kind of like a Southwestern theme will make you wonder if you've driven past some museum or old country props. If you're lucky you'll get to meet Patty, one of two sisters that own this place. This is cabin type stay. The cabins are not large but quaint enough for you to enjoy your stay while not feeling a draft in your wallet. Each room is set up with a bbq pit in front (You have to move it 10 feet from the structure by regulation/law). I believe each cabin is equipped with a mini fridge, tv, bed, and towels. Sheets are changed once a week, usually on Thursdays. There are strict rules here and probably what you're not used to but if you want to remain in good standing and get that good price, then you will have to adhere rules that are posted throughout. When you leave to go to work, you must have your a/c off, tv and lights. This, of course, is to keep the electricity bill down passing the savings on to you and others. There are no visitors allowed unless you pay extra which is about $10 extra a day. You must have an out of town license to stay here and no in town visitors are allowed. Simple rules but understandable to maintain the quietness that is enjoyed by everybody here. Renting is usually given out a week at a time. With a good attitude, you might, just might get some of your money refunded "if" you happen to have to depart suddenly, that is something that NO OTHER MOTEL will usually do you for so mind the rules and your attitude and things will all be fine. There is free wifi here and it's posted on the doors. Nighttime is a little rough on the eyes because there is not a lot of light throughout but you're safe, there is almost no threat of danger here. Your nearest shopping and restaurants are in very close proximity. You can even walk to a few or take a 30-second drive and be just the same. I definitely will return here if I'm in the area simply because it's a neat experience than I've ever had than any other motel and one does not have to worry about doors slamming in the middle of the night and elevator doors dinging. Hope the pictures I was able to take can help you fathom how neat this place is.
