Steve's new store on Sainte-Catherine is a must for every musician in Montreal area, they don't…read morehave any choice as Palais des congrès ( Congress house) ask them to moved as they are rule by government it was move or die choice. so after being on sainte-Antoine street (old Montreal) since 1965 ! They moved to downtown last summer. Their store is in a nice spot in front of bar Foufounes Électriques on main street ( Sainte-Catherine) and inside they have less space but everything is nicely placed (unlike the old store were everything was place in a spot wherever they can put it. And they have a nice stage were they want to put live artist and it should be really interesting new idea in future. After the owner died (Steve Kirkland RIP), his son want to keep it going. I will see if they can survive in this new era were most peoples buy used in Canada as most new music gear is overprice cause of USA currency over CND dollar. But this is the the ultimate music store in Montreal, the only thing is that they don't do exchange (old guitar for an new one) unlike lots of stores in the province, so maybe it can be a new thing that can make them earn more profits if they change it. When i was younger salesmen were rude, but now they are super friendly ( maybe it's because older peoples have more money than younger ones but i think that they should take care more of their customers. But now they're friendly and competent. This place was the place were any Montreal musicians went to buy gears. In their old store they have a wall full of pictures with autograph pix with well known musicians like Aldo Nova, April wine, Frank Marino, Voi Vod, Simple Plans etc. So if you want to go to the Montreal best music Store you'll find the place. Long live Steve's ! Long vie à Steve's music !

Atrocious customer service, utterly abysmal…read more I am a touring professional in the music business, and this is the closest store to my home for last minute supplies I invariably need before a tour starts. My first experience with music depot went like this: I needed something for a tour I was leaving on, that afternoon, and I had just moved to the neighborhood. I stopped into the empty store with a lone clerk that barely made the effort to glance at me when I entered, and not speaking french particularly well, I asked him, in french, if he spoke English, "Parlay Anglais?". he looked at me with what I can only describe as borderline disgust and said, with full condescension, "Francais". Ok, well, what I was after wasn't likely to have french translation on it's package, I asked anyway, and he shook his head. I thanked him and turned to leave, but as I reached the door, he said, without a hint of an accent, "That's a specialty product, you're not going to find it here in St-Jean, you'll have to go into Montreal." So, he was a dick JUST to be a dick. Not to mention that it was Zildjian Stick Wax. That is so not a specialty item. But hey, everyone has a bad day...Since then I've heard other bad stories, but still I've been back 2 or 3 more times, always looking for something specific, but never outrageously odd or rare, my last object being an LP cowbell. He doesn't stock LP, ok fine, but when I told him that I wasn't going to take what he had in stock because it wasn't LP, and I was told that I specifically needed it to be LP. His response was "You were told you need a cowbell...?" with a tone that said oh, well aren't you an idiot... No, I'm the drum tech for that fella there in the poster on your wall, but you wouldn't know that because instead of asking questions, you went straight to arrogance. "Unless you can tell me the exact model number it's like saying you just want a car..." Yeah, I'm also going to want to hit them...even the same model will sound different from one to the next.... I didn't say that, I just thanked him and left, knowing that I won't darken his door again. On my way out he told me, as he has every time I've been in, "Good luck...'. If every time I need something and it ends with you arrogantly telling me good luck.... aren't you the problem? Because I've found everything I needed, no luck involved. Just better stores with more helpful staff. DMusique is the better store in town, and if they don't have/can't order what you need, the trip into Montreal, or to Steve's in Greenfield Park is worth it. I had what I was looking for less than two hours later.

Absolutely the best professional woodwind and brass instrument dealer in the Montreal area,…read morepossibly the best in the province. Excellent selection of instruments and accessories. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful. It's a family owned business and the owners are part of the team. The repair technicians are first rate. For professionals and students this is the place that has what you need. If they don't have it they will order it for you. For brass and woodwinds, Twigg's has no equal.

They have a huge selection of wind instruments at all price points ranging from some second hand ones for a few hundred dollars to ones that rivalled the price of a small car... There is also a small selection of other instruments like guitars, drum kits, and keyboards, but clearly brass and wood winds are their forte here. Service was wonderful, the sales lady took the time to bring out several models at various price points and explained the pros and cons of each. There wasn't really any attempt to upsell us on a higher end model. They have sound proof practice rooms and my daughter got to try out all the different models on her own. We left with a shiny new trumpet that was within our budget, very happy with the service and our purchase.
