His classes strike the perfect balance of a relaxing/enjoyable atmosphere while also being physically challenging. Over the years, I've tried a dozen different pilates studios around LA, and Natural is my favorite. No matter what instructor you get, the classes really adapt to your strength and the level you're at. They also really stress good form, which a lot of places don't. I then started to take Pilates and have been doing it for many, many years and I still do. Having a full knee replacement last August, my life has changed dramatically. My ability to do yoga has changed significantly and I was so excited to return to this studio. They have updated their air filtration, (using air scrubbers) and as a Health and Safety Supervisor I was thrilled. The entire studio has the best vibe ever. Everyone who works there are so welcoming and kind. Shout out to Bruce! I took a chair yoga class that was amazing and I left feeling uplifted and so happy I could stretch my body ( especially my knee) in ways I haven't been able to do for years...I bought a 3 class pass which is so reasonably priced so I can try a couple of different classes. Feldenkrais interests me and they have it here. They film the classes ( only seeing the teacher) and you can watch it for free for several days after every class you take... Google it and see all the class options that caters to everyone of all ages! This studio is a gem located on Ocean Park Blvd ( my old Sunset Park neighborhood) and next to Thyme Cafe. The focus is on form, technique, and ongoing growth, so you never plateau or just " go through the motions." The culture Patrice has created attracts like-minded students: a community of thoughtful, hard-working and welcoming people, always encouraging one another in the studio, regardless of age, experience or level. The highest compliment I can pay Katy is that she deserves a studio as upscale and classy as she is. The pricing is incredibly reasonable; and she goes out of her way with regards to schedule to ensure that privates can be set up around the clients in her schedule. I got a tremendous amount out of the 55 minutes that we were working, and was truly impressed by her skill as a pilates instructor - clearly she can handle both newcomers up to advanced dancers. The owner was transparent and said that at this time she's limited in being able to take on new clientele, but is always open to the conversation as scheduling might just work out. Like a lot of studios post Covid, she still working out other instructors' schedules. So that this review is credible, there are a few things that should be shared in transparency: Good air-conditioning is crucial especially during these long hot dry summer days and nights; like a lot of buildings in Santa Monica, particularly older ones (the building that this private small studio is in is quite old and a bit rundown)- there is no central air - at least none that is working; so the studio relies on standalone air conditioning's that you would purchase at Home Depot. And unfortunately given how hot it is right now, they were not substantial to keep the place cool through the 50 minutes of a work out. I had to ask a few times if there was anyway to make it cooler; and while all devices differ, the overall temperature throughout our session was around 78 to 79° (it was 84 degrees outside according to my Iphone). This obviously would not be an issue during the cooler months when Santa Monica's overall temperature would be in the high 60s to low 70s. Equipment was all in good shape; not all brand new but it's still well-kept. For some reason the studio was kept in the dark - there were no lights on and bamboo shades were drawn so the whole session was pretty much in semi darkness; I'm not sure what the reason for that was other than to help keep the temperature down. It made for a bit of a gloomy overall tone to the session. I could've asked if we could turn on the lights, but given that the air-conditioning was already struggling, thought it more important to keep it as cool as possible and guessed that was the reason for all lights being off. There is no water offered in the studio; you'll want to bring your own. And there is a small dog that did leap on me as I entered and was active and running around at a few points during the session. This is definitely something that is of course completely personal preference - but I always find it compassionate and helpful when an owner lets you know that there will be a small animal running around in the studio; I prefer a completely clean studio with no animals, and wish this had been clearly mentioned during any one of our conversations leading up to our first session. (Upon entering the dog was removed from my feet, and I was told would remain in his little bed set up by the Cadillac; however that was not the case). If you're a dog person, or don't mind a small animal occasionally walking around during your session, then this won't be an issue. KATY's excellence as an instructor outweighs these small negatives; and if you live/work in Santa Monica or close to Pico and Main, it's definitely worth checking out!
