The best thing about the Power Plant is that it's absolutely free (donations are welcome). It's well-ran and nicely curated. There's also a section for kids, with a scavenger hunt. My only complaint is that the art is rather sparse. I wish they could pack more art into the small space. I'm sure that there are lots of talented local artists who would love to be able to exhibit their art in this space. So, I think it behooves on the Power Plant to make it happen.

They are currently looking for a pottery instructor too! The gallery space was phenomenal, No pictures are allowed of the artwork, so my only photos are outside, but the space just is wonderful. The first room featured one artist- abstract paintings with vivid colors that really spoke to me and had me wanting to come home and paint! I have a huge canvas hanging in my bedroom that I spent 3 months creating, abstract- some of it was literally me finger painting, lol. But it felt the same as this body of work- playful, open to interpretation. I saw windows, faces, mindscapes. John said they had great texture and he said he easily could see my own work in a similar fashion. The second larger room doubled as a classroom/studio with plenty of storage and countertops, open flooring to set up tables for projects. I can only imagine they also use the yard outside for space- especially on a gorgeous day like when we were there. Situated right on the mouth of the Niagra River- there are stunning views with wonderful breezes off the water. All of the art is for sale, so support a wonderful artist! You can also make a donation directly to the centre- which we did! Love me some art ;)

Barbara L Rickard is a local artist who has many things featured here. She had a few of her paintings made into pillows. I bought one for just over $60. It's called Paintress. Where the bison's horns lock, it shows a heart. I love hearts!! (Barbara told me that!!) She actually came in for something and she signed the back of the pillow. They don't just have paintings here. This gift shop has jewelry and many other cool things too. Come check it out!!! I'm sure I'll be back soon to purchase other cool items.

I decided that…read moreafter my meal I was going to go for a walk around the area and see what I could during the remaining daylight. I stumbled upon this alley. I am assuming that they use this area during street festivals or gatherings of sorts. However, I as type that out, it also looked as if it has not been used in a hot minute. There are weeds that line the walkway and some trash could be picked up. Some of the mortar on the walls have fallen off and there are obvious signs of a need for repair. The artwork on the walls are nicely done and show the flair of the area. Vibrant colors that pull you into the alley. I sure do hope that they spruce it up a bit as it could be a big draw to pull tourists further out. It just feels like this area has not fully rebounded from the pandemic.

I am beyond disappointed with my recent experience at Frame by Design. I entrusted them with two…read moreone-of-a-kind blueprints created by my late father--pieces that were decades old and held immense sentimental value. Both were completely destroyed due to their incompetence. I had been a loyal customer for years under previous ownership, which is why I kept coming back. Unfortunately, this experience has made it clear that things have changed--and I will not be returning. The service was extremely slow. I brought the blueprints in just before Christmas 2024, and by early February, I had to call to check on the status. Only then was I told they were prepping for a move and would contact me shortly. When they did call me to tell me they were ready for pick up, I checked one and it seemed pretty good (a few bubbles in the mounting but tolerable). The other I didn't open until I got home and it was full of bubbles. These pieces should have never been allowed to leave the store in that condition. Bottom line: it's apparent that they are not well versed in using the heat application equipment process (used to secure the blueprint paper to the backing). This left air bubbles in the pieces and they then tried running them through the machine at a higher heat, which only made things worse. They blamed the paper, stating that it is not always guaranteed to eliminate wrinkles, however, having tried one 'sacrificial' blue print afterward as a test and using a higher heat, it produced a completely flat mount. In the end, I had to provide two different blueprints and change the mounting format entirely. The whole process dragged on for months. While they offered to refund the mounting service (approx. $100), the framing for both cost $1,000--plus, the original blueprints were completely destroyed, and I had to settle for different pieces to replace these. What makes this even worse is the complete lack of accountability. The salesperson I dealt with, Stormy, never once apologised or acknowledged the extent of the damage. For a business that handles irreplaceable items, this disregard for customers and their property is unacceptable. If you value your artwork or sentimental pieces, do not trust them with your items. I wanted to have…read more3 pictures reframed and was told there could be a supplier discount, there was also a setup fee which I was told to be $18. FBD was supposed to call the next morning to confirm this discount. This did not occur, and I followed up by phone call. "Stormy" the proprietor indicated that suppliers were not available until later in the week. She followed up with the discount information and stated that her employee did not offer $18 for the setup fee. Stormy was confrontational, aggressive and argumentative in her response. Better to take your business where the customer is respected and not stressed out! I wouldn't recommend this business to anyone.

Most exhibits have an opening reception where many times you can meet the artist and hear about their process. There are a few different galleries with changing exhibits. One is a very large space which is sometimes used for lectures and presentations. The museum is free. Easy access from the 190 but parking is limited. The volunteers and staff are helpful and knowledgeable. The exhibits are varied in styles. Right now there's one on tattoo artists and one on fairy tales and Greek mythology. I keep going back so I don't miss anything in this ever changing space.

I was there today March 24 at 11:15am your 2 millenial females with dark hair glasses and ponytails were sitting at the desk by the computers. They were gossiping about customers. Saying how they don't know the person but they feel like they are.... I went up to your dark hair guy at the desk by the front. He had glasses and a red sweatshirt. He refuses to do anything about it. He says I stand behind my coworkers. All I asked was for the behaviour to be more professional. Another blonde lady with glasses ( she was about my age. I'm 49) she hears the conversation and goes over to the desk and tells the millenial lady working about my complaint. I then hear the millenial lady say well you know she's a....the lady stops her and says, we should avoid saying anything else cause she might come over and yell at us. See this why people don't feel comfortable coming to the downtown library anymore. I've worked in Customer service the last 30 years of my life. I don't understand why employees in a Library get to behave so rudely?? At any of my jobs we would have been fired for it Please teach your staff some professionalism
