Fu is particularly good with short hair-- I've had problems getting a good pixie cut at some very expensive salons due to my fine hair, but he consistently does an excellent job. It's really pretty funky, set in one of the many Georgian terraces of Islington. The walls have been graffiti'ed with crayons which helps convey the impression that you are in a very hip young family's home. I've been here twice now and had two different hairdressers. Both have been young and far more stylish than me, and seem to have the miraculous ability to somehow impart some of their stylishness to my hair. This could in fact be the hair product they use as my hair never seems to be quite as good the next day when I try and replicate the result. The only thing I don't like is the price; a guy's haircut is 35 pounds (you get a 10% discount for booking your next appointment on the day). I don't know if that's a lot by London standards but it's certainly a lot by my standards. Still, I guess you get what you pay for and I've certainly felt that was the case both times.

I walked in very cautious because with a stylist who is a stranger, a lot can be misunderstood - plus, I have hair almost to my waist, and after encountering some stylists who seemed to feel like a few extra unasked inches off was not a big deal (wut), I am scared of new stylists... but no need for fear, here! Hiro is very attentive and listens very carefully, and clearly had no agenda but to apply his expertise to my direction. Hiro cut my hair dry so I could make adjustments as we saw the progress; he was very conservative at my request, and didn't complain in the least when I reconsidered my asks twice and wanted to cut even more to address the dry ends. It was clear I could trust him not to overdo it, which made me trust his judgement.
