Dogs need there space not to be in the middle of an active field with small dogs, ppl, children. That's a bad connection. The trainers bring dogs that have no control of their senses to a family park in an open space. Park department should not allow this. My dad trained German shepherd , Doberman and he trained them indoor until they were well trained and obedience. If they continue to get complains the park department may listen. I don't know why they are not investigating yet. I would hate to have find another park for my pup because of safety.

If you're fishing from the boardwalk or where the picnic tables are...just don't. It's quite shallow, and where it isn't, lie just as many hazards. Logs, rocks, and plenty of old fishing line and weights to lose your rig on. Would probably be a lot better if you rented the kayak and took it out onto the river a ways. Don't know though, as I didn't try it. Lost two lures here. Pretty sad about it. But the experience of the beauty was great.

It is a passive park, currently fenced off for repair and replanting of the grass that looks like it's a little torn up from too much use. The park seems like it would be ideal as a farmers market or art show area. The top of the park is the main draw, the original Jacksonville train station since rebuilt and restored to its original exterior. The building was closed so I don't know what the interior looks like. There is also a small caboose rail car next to the station for maximum photographical awesomeness. My kids loved watching Santa ride in on his Harley. The man playing Santa was courteous and didn't feel like they rushed the kids in and out like an assembly line. Or herding cattle. Didn't feel like that at all. The lines were crazy long. Just means so many of our local neighbors got to enjoy the fun festivities out city put on for its people. The "snow" could definitely be improved, but this is coming from a former northern who lived in the snow.

The large playground area has a soft mulch base and includes three or four different structures for children to climb on and use their imaginations. There is some fixed fitness equipment and some swing sets. The covered picnic shelter is large enough for four picnic tables and includes grills. There are also picnic tables around the rest of the park. A separate entrance to a dog park that includes two fences at the entrance for proper unleashed play. Though the fence around the park is only three feet high (one meter) so keep an eye on your dog if they're capable of jumping something like that. Let likely for children to hop the fence, but yes the entire park is surrounded to keep the little ones from possibly wandering off. I am sad that I did not have more time to visit this garden and memorial park. The park honors…read morethose who serve our country and is a place to gather to remember those who have given the greatest sacrifice for our freedom. It is home to the Beirut Memorial, the Onslow Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Montford Point Marine Memorial, and 9/11 Memorial Beam from the World Trade Center. A number of Jacksonville's greenways and trails pass through the park. I've been to the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington and the South Wall in Pensacola and even the North Carolina Memorial Wall that is off I-85. This one in Jacksonville is as powerful and evocative as those. The Memorial includes an entry wall with medallions and flags representing all branches of the military, a walkway and bridge with French design, and a glass wall etched with names of those MIA, POW or dead. The Dome, completed in March of 2014 is the finishing piece of the memorial and 'caps' the fountain. The unofficial words from Taps is inscribed around the Dome. The Fountain has 5 jets representing each branch of the Armed Forces. Each jet is lit with a different color which can be viewed best at night. The 9/11 Memorial includes a beam from the Twin Towers, presented to the first troops to those who invaded Iraq from the police and firefighters of New York. The Beam is located by the Beirut Memorial and Entry Wall to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at Lejeune Memorial Gardens in Jacksonville. There is free parking at the site. The kids play area I think could be a little bigger or offer some updated equipment, but overall a great place to come and enjoy the outdoors.
