I was able to get a free class and also took advantage of their $69 during the month of January! I…read morereally enjoyed their motivational atmosphere, good music selections, group support with high fives, and awesome instructors to help with either modifications or make sure I was doing the movements correctly. I like how the exercises can be personalized to one's own fitness and intensity levels and we can usually go at our own pace while going through different stations. We sometimes would get paired with someone - I guess so if we had a questions, we could ask them? Sometimes I would lose my partner if my pace was too slow or if I went to another area looking for the right weight to lift for the given exercise, but other than that, everything was fine. The bathrooms were clean, cubbies were available to store our jackets and personal belongings (no locks because no one steals here - I'm not entirely used to this since I am from the hood but I suppose with the membership fees, people have higher income brackets so no one is going to steal petty things. Overall, this gym has a great formula - good app for tracking workouts, help desk with support staff, child care area, motivational walk of fitness testimonials, and positive quotes on the walls of the gym. It is a great gym although the price is on the higher end for me. I will advise gym attendees to be careful with proper form and using the best dumbbell weight for each exercise to avoid injury. My month has ended and I will consider joining this gym in the future. Finally, I always look at the fitness level of the instructor for different programs and classes and the fitness levels amor these instructors are great so I definitely looked to them for inspiration and workout directions.

I had seen some of my friends posting videos of their workouts on their Instagram stories, so I had an idea of what to expect, and it encouraged me to finally try one out. (They do come and take videos during each workout to post online, so if this is something you would not be okay with...don't go.) There are people of all ages and fitness levels, but mostly women and they do have child watch services during your work out. I was also lucky to come during a cheap first month promotion, so I took advantage of that before signing up for an actual membership. The instructors are well trained and they come around and try to help correct technique as much as possible, but the class sizes are fairly large and the workouts are pretty fast paced, so it may not be a great gym for true beginners who do not have an idea of what proper form should be on a variety of exercises. It is an encouraging atmosphere, almost too many high fives if you ask me, but I take the good with the bad. I do enjoy the music, programming, variety of workouts, equipment available, and overall welcoming and motivational vibes.

What I love most is that she provides Polar heart rate monitors to wear during the workout, and your heart rate zones are always projected on her TV in the gym. This is helpful when you're trying to not only get fit and burn calories, but get heart healthy, too! It's an excellent benchmark to see how far you've come, as well. She has a clean gym with tons of equipment; free weights/bar, dumbbells, medicine balls, ropes, jump ropes, resistance bands, TRX, rowing machine, pull up bar, boxes, you name it- she has it! Becka is wise beyond her years in nutrition and fitness. Most personal trainers focus only on your form and weight when you attend. She cares so much more about you than your weight. She encourages you to set attainable goals, and be more in tune with your well-being. She's gentle, kind and so knowledgeable! I'm so happy I've found her, and that she's just down the road from me, too! Give Becka a try, she offers a free first week, free coaching and workouts online, too! The perfect fitness and nutrition package is right here in Grayslake!

The members on hand were very nice and were patient and helpful with our questions. I certainly felt welcomed and it was a completely relaxed atmosphere. If Curling is something that interests you, I'd suggest that you stop by to check out their facility and learn about their mens, women's, youth and mixed leagues.

I've been playing roller derby for 9 years and after those 9 years of joint abuse, torn ligaments,…read morebroken bones and hematomas, I needed to find a new hobby. I decided to give curling a shot because A.) I never really had a true grasp of what this sport was all about B.) I loved team sports and needed to play one that didn't require me hitting or getting hit by somebody else's body C.) I wanted to find a new community of people and friends who like to get competitive, heckle each other, and then can sit back and enjoy an adult beverage once it's all said and done. The Racine Curling Club provided all these things for me. So far, I have only participated in their "Bootcamp", if you will, that started up in February and ended in April. They allow you this time to learn the rules, they teach you basic skills and strategy and give you the opportunity to play in some games on the weekends so you can hone your skills. Most importantly, they are all super patient with new curlers. Even if they are cursing us out in their heads, you'd never know it because they are all helpful and supportive. This is one club that is truly set up like clubhouse: they have a full kitchen, locker room, a lounge area where people can socialize, eat/drink etc., and a viewing wall where you can watch games happening down below. The inside reminds me of an old cabin in the woods and is very dated, but there is something so comforting and nostalgic about it that makes me want to spend more and more time there. Sadly, I began to really get the hang of the game and improve my skills towards the end of their season, so I was only able to spend 2 months with the club before the season ended. They don't run their leagues during the summer because of the cost of keeping the ice frozen, so it's a significant gap that I have to wait until they start up again. But in the short time I was a part of it, I really enjoyed my time there. It was enough time to know that I plan to sign up to participate for the 2018-2019 season and hopefully get the chance to make some more friends and become better at this fun, new sport. If you're looking for a fun, new activity that is completely inclusive no matter what age you are, this is the place for you!
